Last week, Geoff of The Chart™ fame, over at Innocent Bystanders took Ezra Klein to task for his misleading stats on gun crime, here.

You will especially like the part where Geoff helpfully points out that trigger locks are maybe not so helpful for preventing most suicides and homicides, which Klein's 'analysis' would absolutely imply.

Either Klein cannot properly construct a statistical analysis, or he is integrity-challenged and actively trying to deceive his readers.

Geoff follows up this week with an item from The Washington Times that examines the correlation between gun laws and gun crimes.

Follow the link-through to the WT. It may not be all that you think.

One bit that I found surprising was the statement that poor folks who live in crappy neighborhoods benefit the most from the enhanced personal safety provided by gun ownership. I wasn't surprised by the fact -I have known this since I used to live in a crappy 'hood. I was surprised to see that fact published, in English, in an American newspaper.

If you claim to care about poor people trapped in dangerous neighborhoods, then tightening gun restrictions is the last thing you should do. And pricing ammunition or guns out of the reach of the poor is bad practice as well.

And yet, most urban mayors think that loosening gun restrictions is for the country folk, and not for themselves.

Think again, guys.

That wasn't the case until game management was given teeth. Same with fish. Cutthroat trout were fished out of all but the highest streams in Colorado by the 1930's. There are more of them around now than anytime in the last century.

NC has a law that you must carry on your person a written permission slip to hunt the property, or you are guilty of trespass.   Old boys were telling game wardens that farmer joe let them hunt there and the warden couldn't find farmer jos so he would let him go.  Not anymore, they arrest them right there.  Call the game warden, not the cops.  The cops aren't going to come.

I was duck hunting in MD on the Chesapeake with a group on a boat, pass shooting sea ducks, and two wardens come up in a boat with their glocks drawn like we were bank robbers.

Could not have been rudder.  I am from out of state paying big bucks to hunt and this guy is being a dick.  After they couldn't find anything wrong they got even more pissed off.  I mentioned we would not be hunting in MD again, and have a nice day.

Ha.  Ezra Klein.  Another hipster pop darling journalist of the left.  A smug turd at best and Lotus Eater.  Let us break it down, my brothers and sisters.  Washington DC, which in some neighborhoods could be akin to Khandahar, Afghanistan, has either the most restrictive weapon laws or damn near close (someone correct me if I am wrong).  And their homicide / crime stats would make one think that said city was smack in the middle of Afghanistan or Africa.  So yeah, great thing those restrictive gun laws.  Seattle is going through its own gyrations and mental masturbation over proposing new laws.  The problem I have and LauraW alluded to it is the city government.  The mayor and semi retarded city counsel dwell in condos, shop at Whole Foods and walk with their two children (usually of the canine variety- not REAL children) in a small bubble of prosperity in the city.  They are out of touch with normal people who do not live such privileged lives, such as their consituents in the Rainier Valley, which is where many "urban folk" live and are gunned down by gangs, thugs and other assorted urchins.  Dammit I am rambling again.  But you guys get my point.  Seattle + liberal+ liberal city govt = retarded policies and laws that get you victimized / jailed.

I started having dreams where, in the dream I was asleep and awakened either by a mob pounding on my door or someone jiggling my door handle trying to break in.
 
It was awful because it was very vivid and often I would dream that I had gotten up to check the door and hear/see nothing and then dream that I went back to sleep only to be awoken again, in the dream, to the same thing. I would try to wake up but I was paralyzed and when I finally did wake up my adrenaline was pumping so I couldn't go back to sleep for hours.

Then one night I was up late (around 4-5 am) and wide awake when someone came to my door and started messing with the lock and doorknob. I got my S&W .40 semiautomatic handgun out, walked to the door and loudly chambered a round. The dreams stopped. A few months later I moved to a much better area.

180 Maryland --- There are nice places in the western mountains. I suppose it wouldn't be too horrible to live in Frederick, if it weren't in Maryland. Annapolis would be very nice, if you could afford it and it weren't in Maryland. The Eastern Shore! Nice! I finally got down to the St. Mary's area a couple of years ago when one of the kids was looking at St. Mary's College, which is wonderful, like an itty-bitty William & Mary. It would be a fantastic town to live in, if it weren't in Maryland. And I like Baltimore --- the Harbor, Fells Point, Little Italy, the Walters Museum. If I were stinking filthy rich, I might live in an old townhouse in the Washington monument area or a condo in the Domino building. It would be nice, if it weren't in Baltimore and in Maryland. I'll stick with Virginia. For now.

Just did a bit of searching, and it's the law in 10 states...including IL and WV.

 

I dunno about the 'color-blind' thing being an excuse, though.

I am not fucking claiming I am color blind, I AM fucking color blind. Axe the USAF.  They wouldn't let fly or navigate.  Tough reading those colors on a map.

I have never seen it in NC.  I am in a hunt club, we have 2200 acres and in a fishing club with over 1800 acres.  We don't have one tree painted purple or any other color, except orange, which means they are going to cut it out.

Both of my parents were from the Eastern Shore, and we used to visit my grandparents there when I was younger. I have fond memories of that area. For liability reasons, not just for hunting.

 

After having to clean up some illegal dumping on a piece of property...I take a dim view of trespassers...of any sort.

Virginia is quickly shifting into "reliable blue state" based on Northern Virginia federal parasitism and minority voting; Tidewater, Charlottesville, and Richmond voting completes the liberal turn. Virginia is, probably irretrievably, a blue state.

297 I took an out of state friend to Washington's rock which is near the watchung mountains in jersey.  Washington used it as an observation point.  It has an amazing view, can see an easy 20 miles. My friend looked at the monument, started beaming with pride that she was actually standing where he stood and asked "what do you think Washington would do if he came here today?".

During those years, my life and property still had value, and I needed to protect myself.

There is so much wrong with this statement, I scarcely know where to begin. There are good people in urban settlements.
