— LauraW Correction: Yikes. The stats were Richard Florida's, not Klein's. Klein just parroted them.
Original post below.
............................
Last week, Geoff of The Chart™ fame, over at Innocent Bystanders took Ezra Klein to task for his misleading stats on gun crime, here.
You will especially like the part where Geoff helpfully points out that trigger locks are maybe not so helpful for preventing most suicides and homicides, which Klein's 'analysis' would absolutely imply.
Either Klein cannot properly construct a statistical analysis, or he is integrity-challenged and actively trying to deceive his readers.
Follow the link-through to the WT. It may not be all that you think.
One bit that I found surprising was the statement that poor folks who live in crappy neighborhoods benefit the most from the enhanced personal safety provided by gun ownership. I wasn't surprised by the fact -I have known this since I used to live in a crappy 'hood. I was surprised to see that fact published, in English, in an American newspaper.
If you claim to care about poor people trapped in dangerous neighborhoods, then tightening gun restrictions is the last thing you should do. And pricing ammunition or guns out of the reach of the poor is bad practice as well.
And yet, most urban mayors think that loosening gun restrictions is for the country folk, and not for themselves.

I'm not surprised that the only paper that will publish that fact is the Washington Times.

"The more hunters the more deer and turkeys ."
That wasn't the case until game management was given teeth. Same with fish. Cutthroat trout were fished out of all but the highest streams in Colorado by the 1930's. There are more of them around now than anytime in the last century.

Well, yes. The statement is true. Hunters and Fisherman pay for licenses and those fees have rebuilt the wildlife in this country.
There are more deer in the country now than in 1776. There are more Turkey now than in 1776.
I know, who counted them. Dick Clark?

In other words ready made allies for the professional manager.
I've seen a guy trying to hunt turkeys on my property twice . I haven't ratted him out yet , cause I don't like or trust the cops but the last time I saw him I snuck around behind him and left a rude note on his truck windshield .
If I see him again , I'm slashing his tires .
NC has a law that you must carry on your person a written permission slip to hunt the property, or you are guilty of trespass. Old boys were telling game wardens that farmer joe let them hunt there and the warden couldn't find farmer jos so he would let him go. Not anymore, they arrest them right there. Call the game warden, not the cops. The cops aren't going to come.

Women in crime-ridden neighborhoods need access to an equalizer. Chicago newspapers only occasionally reported on women, whose only defense was a knife or 911, who were killed by a brutal ex-husband or BF.
Even when the killer was under a restraining order, if you can believe it.

I don't disagree. Some game wardens are total dicks. I am paying their salary with my license, the fucker can be polite and not confrontational.
I was duck hunting in MD on the Chesapeake with a group on a boat, pass shooting sea ducks, and two wardens come up in a boat with their glocks drawn like we were bank robbers.
Could not have been rudder. I am from out of state paying big bucks to hunt and this guy is being a dick. After they couldn't find anything wrong they got even more pissed off. I mentioned we would not be hunting in MD again, and have a nice day.

Ha. Ezra Klein. Another hipster pop darling journalist of the left. A smug turd at best and Lotus Eater. Let us break it down, my brothers and sisters. Washington DC, which in some neighborhoods could be akin to Khandahar, Afghanistan, has either the most restrictive weapon laws or damn near close (someone correct me if I am wrong). And their homicide / crime stats would make one think that said city was smack in the middle of Afghanistan or Africa. So yeah, great thing those restrictive gun laws. Seattle is going through its own gyrations and mental masturbation over proposing new laws. The problem I have and LauraW alluded to it is the city government. The mayor and semi retarded city counsel dwell in condos, shop at Whole Foods and walk with their two children (usually of the canine variety- not REAL children) in a small bubble of prosperity in the city. They are out of touch with normal people who do not live such privileged lives, such as their consituents in the Rainier Valley, which is where many "urban folk" live and are gunned down by gangs, thugs and other assorted urchins. Dammit I am rambling again. But you guys get my point. Seattle + liberal+ liberal city govt = retarded policies and laws that get you victimized / jailed.
So say we all.

I started having dreams where, in the dream I was asleep and awakened either by a mob pounding on my door or someone jiggling my door handle trying to break in.
It was awful because it was very vivid and often I would dream that I had gotten up to check the door and hear/see nothing and then dream that I went back to sleep only to be awoken again, in the dream, to the same thing. I would try to wake up but I was paralyzed and when I finally did wake up my adrenaline was pumping so I couldn't go back to sleep for hours.
Then one night I was up late (around 4-5 am) and wide awake when someone came to my door and started messing with the lock and doorknob. I got my S&W .40 semiautomatic handgun out, walked to the door and loudly chambered a round. The dreams stopped. A few months later I moved to a much better area.

Gun restrictions decrease the crime rate a tiny amount for whites, but they increase the crime rate in minority neighborhoods dramatically. At least that's what a gun control supporter found when they looked into the stats.

In most states trespass while carry a weapon is a felony.
I know i that in Oregon, if you get caught hunting on private land without permission, the game warden will seize the weapons and vehicle involved, and then call the local police ( no guarantee that the local popo will do anything, but the fine and forfeiture by the game warden hurts )

Hunting on private land that is 'posted' is a big no-no.
It's dangerous too...can get you shot.
Most landowners these days mark their perimeters with purple paint...on their fence posts...with signs at intervals.
But just the purple paint is enough to qualify as 'posted-no trespassing'.

It's that way here in OK...and in AR and MO...it's pretty universal, from what I understand, Billy Bob.
If you can't discern the color purple, I would advise that you just assume that any dark color paint on fence posts out in the countryside means..."posted".

Yeah, teej...it's pretty universal.
Purple paint = "Posted - Keep Out".
"No Hunting" is sort of understood.
It doesn't even have to be on a 'fence line' either.

Just did a bit of searching, and it's the law in 10 states...including IL and WV.
I dunno about the 'color-blind' thing being an excuse, though.
It's pretty dangerous to be tromping around out on private land, and most counties take the landowners side when it comes to trespassing.

Just because some days I have nothing better to do (and my mind wanders to really obscure things), I asked my search engine yesterday "How many slaves were brought over to America?"
The answer surprised me - between 1620 and 1865, approximately 600,000 slaves were brought to North America from Africa - an average of 2,450 slaves per year.
Interestingly enough, Planned Parenthood kills that many African-American babies in this country every 2-3 days.....
(Incidentally, North America only accounted for 5% of the Atlantlc slave trade - the bulk of the rest of those slaves went to South American countries, where most of them were literally worked to death)

Good to know, Jake.
Landowners pretty much have to post their land against trespassing.
For liability reasons, not just for hunting.
After having to clean up some illegal dumping on a piece of property...I take a dim view of trespassers...of any sort.
And these days, there is a growing problem with cattle-rustling and hay theft.

Yet another reason to not post pictures on Facebook.

To be honest, I have a neighbor whose an old hippie-dippy leftist. He works for the FAA. His wife is a good baker, though, and brings me half-eaten cakes and pies. De-fuckin'-licious!

It ought to be painful for ALL Americans to see the land of Washington, Madison, Henry, Mason, Jefferson, etc. turn toward fascism.
Of course, it's sad to see Boston and Philadelphia today too.

Have to add jersey to that. Washington marched troops down my street and practically camped in my back yard on the way to Monmouth. I think if he could have seen what would become of us he probably would have just did a U-turn and got drunk.

I think that's one of the reason I couldn't live there. All that American history where the first seeds of our freedom were cultured, and then to see the way it is now in those places would be too heartbreaking for me.

conclusion: if you outlaw guns, there will be less crime.

Well, that's good to hear, seeing as the Capital of the Confederate States of America was in Richmond and 60% of The War of Northern Aggression was fought in the Commonwealth (VA is NOT a state).

It's one of the reasons women can't read a map -- the concept of an inch equaling five miles just doesn't compute.
Try to explain MPH?

289...We have two Democratic senators, one an ideological turncoat and the other a vanity officeholder. We'll lose said guv'nor's mansion to Clinton hitman/shitheel Terry McAuliffe.
The thought of that dickhead Terry McAuliffe being a governor...anywhere...makes me want to hurl.

They could always avail themselves of the free 13-year education they're offered, but felonies are more fun.

During those years, my life and property still had value, and I needed to protect myself.
1. Guns are "needed" where they can be afforded. Those areas where they can't be afforded are probably the last place they should be.
There is so much wrong with this statement, I scarcely know where to begin. There are good people in urban settlements. There are many reasons why they may have chosen to live there, or wound up there. Are you actually encouraging placing prohibitively high taxation on arms? Do you really believe only bad people live in cities?

Actually, blue state cities train kids to be bad people.
Teenagers who act up in red states get corrected bloody damned fast, and learn to not be bad people.
