ICYMI, the NFL turned down a pro-gun ad this year. At least it's not on NBC, so we don't have to hear Costas' opposing-view at halftime with nary a word from the league.
Also, I was treated to a regional ad from Bloomberg & Menino's Mayors Against Illegal Guns group in the last Pats/Giants Super Bowl, but that apparently doesn't run afoul of the NFL's policy. Call it the gun control show loophole.

Gun Of The Week - Answer
That's the H&K P7M13 with its innovative squeeze-cocking mechanism.
Thugs
Charles C. W. Cooke had a must-read this week on the thuggish tactics of the anti-gunners in Colorado. So go read it.
“As we speak, we have multiple cars monitoring us at our offices and filming us from the parking lot,” Mike McAlpine, who headed up the recall effort, told me yesterday. “This is not a one-off event. We hold sign-and-drive events on the sidewalks near to busy intersections, and we hold signs inviting people to pull over and sign the petition. Our opponents have taken to blocking us: as cars pull in, they run up to the driver’s side door and physically stand next to the door so that the person inside cannot open the door and come outside.”

I had a Spikes Tactical midlength upper in my shopping cart at DSG Arms for about a month. It was $535 at first, then shot up to $575. I kept checking every day, and the Friday before last it showed $399. I was on that like a cop on a cruller. Should be here Tuesday.

And I think I am going to go for official Collector status.
Gets rid of the 30 day requirement between buying regulated weapons in this state.

You know something's easy when you can do it in your bathrobe at your desk. I only had to go down to the basement once to use the vise (when I tapped in the bolt release roll pin.) The takedown pin spring and detent was a little tricky, but I held them in with a credit card as I slid the pin in. The triggerguard roll pin scared the hell out of me (I didn't want to break off the triggerguard ear, which is common), but I supported it well with my lower receiver block, started the pin in with a few taps, then switched over to a C-clamp and pressed it the rest of the way. Easy-peasey.
I used two videos, one for what not to do (Nick Leghorn) and one for what to do if you're anal retentive and OCD (Larry Potterfield at Midway USA, who never met a job that didn't need an absurdly specialized and otherwise worthless tool. Which, by remarkable coincidence, he sells!) Between those two extremes I found the sweet spot.
Only tools needed were a rubber mallet I already had, a roll pin punch (part of a set of four by Lyman I bought for the job, fifteen bucks and I'll use them again), a cheapo 2" C-clamp I already had, and a Pro Mag lower receiver block (ten bucks, I think.) I nabbed a Tapco multi-tool from Amazon that I'll need for the buffer tube (thirty-some bucks) and some future upper-receiver work. Usually Tapco and Pro Mag make crap, but these tools got good reviews.
It was so easy I had time to go back to bed and get plenty of sleep for Thanksgiving dinner. If you're thinking of buying an AR-15, keep your eye peeled for stripped lowers (especially "blemished" lowers which are cheap and hardly blemished) and sweet deals on uppers. You can put a nice one together for less than seven bills if you do your research (on both price AND quality).

It's probably been attached with silver solder. It forms a very strong joint but also has a high melting point. Sounds like it's time for a trip to your firearms doctor.

It could be a manufacturers backlog, but I can't imagine a backlog 10 months long. Then again, I am still waiting for .22LR...

Yep, completely understand that. Surprising, actually, I wouldn't really consider Wal Mart to be gun friendly but they are at least neutral...and they sell a lot of guns.
Last but not least, I need adjustable sights for the new Glock, it shoots down and to the left. Consistently down and to the left, I got a good group but it was 2" down and 2" left at 7 yards. With this gun I have to put the target right behind the front sight, if I "lollypop" the target the group is 3" down at 7 yards. The G36 is pretty much spot on with the target lollypopped.

Ruger SR1911 vs Remington 1911r1 enhanced?
------------------------
While Remington is a bit of a dirty word these days for their cost-cutting and QC on some of their lines, I've heard good things about their 1911's, and Gun Tests gave it a thumb's up.
I've got some Rugers, and while their return and repair policy is the best in the business, they seem to rely on it. Both of my Vaqueros shot to the left, a common problem caused by insufficiently-tightened barrels. I ended up widening the rear sight on one side myself to correct it.

Part that burns me is that since nothing exists--except in the case of a militia--the Constitution itself should have precedence here.
I take that to mean each citizen must be allowed the exercise of that pre-existing right--as defined by the Constitution.

My "gun" brother has a bunch of P7s. He's far away so I've never handled them.
Question for the XD part of the Horde: anyone ever done a complete disassembly/cleaning of their XD? Springfield discourages the practice; there's at least one pretty detailed tutorial online about how to do it. Especially since I've started running lead bullets in my XD9, I've been anxious to try it - the lead loads are great, but spectacularly filthy.
I'm a bit OCD on cleaning guns, but sort I think practically so when it comes to semi-autos and dirty ammo - eventually function is affected.
So just wondering if anyone has taken their XD down "all the way" and can share their experience.

I used to have one and it was loads of fun. I had the same problem with it when I loaded all 10 rounds that it was supposed to hold. I believe the problem is the leaf spring in the magazine. I guess back in the good old days, they did not really have this whole metalurgy of spring steel thing figured out all that well. I understand that some holsters for the broom handle had a pocket for a spare magazine spring so it is not a new and unheard of problem. I have seen new made springs for the C96 advertized over the years but since I no longer own the gun, I have never bought one. The pistol was pretty reliable if you only loaded six rounds and worked a lot of the time if you loaded eight but it would jam pretty reliably with ten rounds loaded in the magazine.
I had someone tell me that the problem was actually a weak recoil spring rather than a magazine spring. Since the recoil spring is simply a coil spring, it ought to be relatively simple to find a coil spring of the correct diameter and length that is a bit stronger. That might be easier to find than a magazine leaf spring.
