Mayor Rahm Emanuel is taking his gun control push to private banks and asking major lenders in Chicago to stop doing business with firearms manufacturers.In a letter to TD Bank and Bank of America on Thursday, Mr. Emanuel asked the CEOs to force gun manufacturers they do business with to “find common ground with the vast majority of Americans who support a military weapons and ammunition ban.”

Gun range prohibits police after city considers ban
A rural Vermont firing range has told the police department in Burlington that its officers are unwelcome to train at the facility because the City Council has advanced a measure to ban semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines in the state's largest city.
Diane Feinstein introduced her ridiculous gun control bill this week, and people across the political spectrum pretty well laughed it off. But make no mistake, the left will continue this push for gun control using all means at their disposal. It must be resisted at every turn, so hats off to that Vermont gun range and every business like it that stands solidly behind our second amendment rights.
I credit Ronnie Barrett of Barrett Firearms with setting the gold standard for telling gun grabbing politicians to get bent. Follow that link to read Barrett's letter in its entirety. It can't really be excerpted well and I don't want to copy the whole thing into the thread.

It is gun registration. It will cost you at least $50 to do a background check on your son so you can give him a gun for Christmas.
More importantly, all records of gun transfers will be kept in a PERMANENT file. So every gun in the country that is ever transfer, by death, sale or gift will be put in a register.

It would make for an interesting project to survey metropolitan police departments on their interest in further gun control legislation.
The results might be an awfully nice reference for mfrs and other suppliers to those depts.

I went out shooting a variety of guns with my wife yesterday. She's new to shooting, and has fairly small hands and is not terribly strong.
She had a tough time holding the revolvers steady and staying on target. They were just to heavy for her to hold still at arm's length. She did better with the automatic, but had a hard time racking the slide. The 12-gauge shotgun was too much for her to handle, and her arms were not long enough to rack the pump.
But she did great with the AR-15. It took her a few shots to get the ghost-ring site figured out, but after that, she was on target quite effectively. And recoil was no problem. Her accuracy with the AR-15 was far and away better than with any other type we fired.
Now, I did fine with pretty much everything they had, but I'm a big guy with big hands. The one compact automatic was too small for me and I kept on putting my thumb up on the slide, but all those other guns were pretty much designed for me. But for my wife, the AR-15 was the only acceptable choice.
The effort to ban modern sporting rifles like the AR-15 should be a feminist issue. It will effectively disarm far more women than it will men. I can always fall back on my trusty .30-06 or a 1911, but there is no way my wife could handle either of those guns. I know that there are women who are the most ardent opponents of the so-called "Assault Weapon", but they should really reconsider. They are only disarming themselves.

That's what I recall from a few years ago. If you live off post, you can refuse to allow your chain of command entrance. Of course, they can simply recall your wife back to live in the barracks, but doing that to all soldiers would be a logistics nightmare.

So, like I really don't "own" a firearm, and although have thought about buying a shotgun for home protection ( I live in a pretty crime free area), that's about as far as it has gotten.
So, an enumerated right under the Constitution is subject to simple majority vote of the Senate / House to be abrogated.

We don't want you to have those scary military type rifles. Does that mean I can have a lever action Winchester, or a Sharps Rifle (military issue in the 19th century)? Or how about bolt action Springfield 1903? Nerf gun?
Where do we draw the line before they frankly criminalize and disarm everybody? Because we wouldn't want to have bad optics and look like the dumb kulak - rubes that we are, clinging bitterly to our Bibles, and stuff.
So here we are, after this Severely conservative President has created an Insurance "tax" that mandates a commercial purchase against the free choices of our citizens. And his EPA is shutting down powerplants by fiat and an incredibly broad interpretation of the Clean Air Act, and will make paupers of us all.

Cool. My reference was to the fact that the 1911 was developed after the Spanish American War in 1898 because the revolvers the army had would not stop the charging Flips. They did not have the knock down power and the flips, although hit, kept charging.
Soon after came the 1911 with some knock down power.

Gun show this weekend in NW Florida. Organizers opened an hour early for anticipated crowds, they weren't disappointed. Attendenance on Sat exceeded previous records by 30%. Not many EBRs available and those that were were priced well above MSRP in many cases. You couldn't get close to the ammo vendors but had to stand in line. The big ammo guys didn't raise prices, they just sold until they were out. What I found interesting was that for every EBR shopper there seemed to be 4 handgun buyers, home defense was the underlying theme of the day.
The local mullet wrapper reporter(U of Illinois, music critic and "cat dad") wrote an article that started off with "panic" and "assault rifles" but also tossed in references to "zombie T shirts", "throwing knives" and "crackling tasers" to reflect the social standing of the sellers and attendees.

I've never seen such sequential assaults on the bill of rights by a newly re-elected leader since the Great Depression.

Last month I went to buy a gun. I filled out all of the paperwork, was very careful to read all of the questions thoroughly and answer truthfully. Sent it away with nary a thought, figured that it was just a matter of time, those State Police boys are swamped with applications right now.
So Today I get a letter from the police, saying I’m declined. It seems that I am “Prohibited from purchasing a firearm!” and because I signed the form saying I wasn’t I had committed perjury, my case was being submitted to the AG for criminal investigation, and oh, by the way YOU ARE PROHIBITED FROM POSSESSING FIREARMS, please contact us if you have any so we can assist you in disposing of them (riiiiiight).
What.

There’s a number to call, so I do so. I’m thinking it’s probably a mistake, “oh we got you confused with..” kinda deal. Nope. Seems that there’s a record of my being charged with “unlawful use of a telephone” in 1989. Huh? I don’t remember that (I didn’t). No clue what’s going on. Talk to the guy some more, nope, there’s nothing more, some minor stuff that was stetted or PBJed (probation before judgment) back in my youth, but that’s it: unlawful use of a telephone, and not only does it sound like a joke, it sounds like a dirty one. I did finally figure out what happened. Way back in college, after a breakup with an old GF, she took me to court charging me with harassing her. I denied it, the judge said leave her alone or I’ll throw the book at you, I said I never wanted to see the crazy bitch again and that was the end of it. I hadn’t thought of it in over 20 years, truthfully since maybe a week after the time in court. I’ve figured it out. What must have happened, in order to ensure that I never contacted crazy ex-gf, was the judge found me guilty of unlawful phone use, suspended sentence, and stuck me on unsupervised probation so that if I did call crazy ex-gf, she could find me in violation and impose the jail time. I, who had no desire to see her again, counted this as a win and went on with my life, forgetting the whole sordid episode. NOW, however, I’m in a great big fur ball of shit because of it. In no particular order:
A) Wife is mad. Not because of some bullshit harassment charge decades before we met that I never told her about, but because she was looking forward to having the gun. She’s developed a liking for shooting and was looking forward to doing more of it, now she can’t even go buy the gun herself because that’ll scream “STRAW PURCHASE” to the cops, even if it’s not. I have no problem not having access to the weapon, but we’ll have to look into that, it may be tricky. Can’t do that until next week because:
B) My lawyer is in Nevada until Monday. I sure hope the Md. AG doesnÂ’t take it in his head to do anything tomorrow about:
C)The fact that I now have a FUCKING PERJURY CHARGE hanging over my head. I put no trust, none, nada, zero in that the guy on the phone said “Well, they’ll be no charges, but there could be”, so to make sure I’m damn clean I no longer:
D)“Possess” any firearms whatsoever, and no, they’re not buried in the yard. There isn’t a firearm in the house, on my property or within miles of me (except what other people may own, of course). I possess and have access to not one single firearm, so:
E)Hope nobody breaks in and, to top it off:
F)In order to get this cleared off of my record I have to begin the process of petitioning the Governor for a pardon for my unlawful phone use, a process that starts with a 30 page document that must be exactingly filled out and ends in 1-2 years, at which point the only guns allowed in Md. will probobaly have “NERF” written on them.

Yup. I've had my run ins with the IG a couple of times while acting as company commander. Never had a problem, however, because I made sure my ducks were in a row and I could justify what I was doing and prove that it wasn't a whim or a vendetta against a specific soldier.

Cheri- pick up the weekend edition of the WSJ. There is an interesting article about basic training for females in the USMC. Gist is this- the drill sgts wear makeup, tie their long hair back, have their nails done etc- all within regs- and still kick the female recruits asses. Training is also segregated from the males. I'm really not doing the article justice, but I found it fascinating coming from an army background where standards are simply lowered to meet goals. I hate to say it, but I met very few female soldiers who could hold a candle to their Marine counterparts in terms of discipline, fitness and attractiveness. Just sayin!

That apparently has firecracker-in-a-henhouse consequences once in a while. There are some CEOs who do still insist on reading some of the customer complaint mail.

Of course, the question is directed at the American public, but the same question needs to be asked of the American military. If word came out that the enemy had raped an American servicewomen, what would be the response from thousands of men still fighting? Jugears made a short notice campaign stop in my midwest city and the officers were called in and asked to volunteer for saturday security duty for the event. Only two volunteered until the brass told them, look we will get the number we need. We will either re-assign your regular duty hours or we will allow you to "volunteer" on overtime pay.
They got the volunteers but my SWAT Team buddy says none of them will come for my guns or allow the two Obama fans to do so either.
I had the same discussion with my neighbor the County Sheriffs Deputy. he says no problem, and the newly elected Sheriff was on the news explaining the huge increase in CC permits and lovin the fact that many of the new permit holders were women. The new guy likes the fact that he has helpful neighbors who are ARMED!

the type of ammo being reloaded impacts how difficult a process it is to master.
.38sp is a very simple round to reload as is 9mm, the 6.5 swede gets more complex because of the bottlenecking but not insurmountably so.

Thanks for the advice, Sven. I think this is our Achilles heel. I think they believe the constitution gives them more latitude to restrict ammo than firearms. I want to be ready just in case.

It costs a fee for a dealer local to you in your state to receive it and do your paperwork. As a military family we have experience with having to jump through hurdles to meet the law, but I am not playing lawyer b/c of how divergent laws are. There have been times it has been easier for us to go home to Ohio to buy, and others where a copy of her orders and local proof of residency was easier.
ARs are WAY overpriced and ammo is scarce, I saved a lot of money dropping the hammer when I did on my 2d build and I would NOT overpay for one right now personally. I used to do a "Sven builds a Cheap AR" linkfest on Sunday night ONTs and I may do one here but in all sincereity right now I'd consider getting a pistol caliber carbine or a 30/30 and saving the money for down the pike.
The ammo is still there for both those in some quantity without being gouged.
Good luck and S&W will be a bit backlogged a while yet.

The first store I was on and still am is Scheels I am of the opinion they have two lists one for people they know and one for people they don't as once they said they get them in once in a while to which I replied I was supposedly second on the list where is mine. They told me no idea on the ar's. I wonder if S&W doesn't particularly favor them since they sell anything and everything the other spot is the local cop supply store and he told me two weeks on both, two months ago.

I can see their trying it, but I can also see them losing badly. Part of why I am happy with my .38s is that I can push lead based ammo down the revolver, and I have the moulds and kettle to make my own rounds...

Yea I know the drill on shipping a weapon thats why I didn't grab it plus it was a brand I never heard of. The local cop shop guy told me 400 for the Shield 40 cal and 595 for the ar sport. both decent prices I look for him to get them before the sports store. I have a 30 06, .243, .357/.38, just need the ar and pocket carry.

The key is having enough brass. If you just save what you shoot it may take a while to accumulate a good pile, but strangely a lot of shooters at the range still throw theirs out. If I notice they are leaving it lie, as politely as I can I ask if they would mind if I take it. I pick up calibers I don't shoot now - but expect to someday.

I have a Sig P226 and a Springfield 1911. I love to shoot them both, can't go wrong with either one. I practice more with the Sig though, it's an absolute joy to shoot and the Ammo's cheaper. Look at the TacOps. If you get one. It comes with I believe 4 20 rd Mags, nice night sights etc. I bought an extra 20 Rd, so I can evenly fill the max with 2 boxes of 9mm before going to the range. LOVE IT!

You have a Class III weapon that was never registered under the NFA. In its current condition, it is basically contraband. There is no Class III permit, you have to buy a $200 tax stamp for each registered Class III weapon that you wish to buy. You also get an extensive background check, fingerprinting, a conversation with your local chief of police, and all of that is only if your state allows Class III weapons. This is not an option with your gun, as you are already in possession (illegally) and, as I have said, it is contraband that cannot be legally registered at this point.

it's not really about the guns, it's about criminalizing gun owners.
it's the same rationale for most of the other piddling little laws out there. it's not really to make the public safer. it's to provide a pretext for someone whom police think 'ought' to be locked up but they can't find any legitimate reason.
