In the morning, I will bend my rule about drinking before 0900 (naturally that one does not count if drinking all night), and have a stout coffee with bourbon, followed by eggnog. Then I will cook ham n' eggs n' grits for my girls. Afterwards begins the highly technical business of Thanksgiving Day cooking and eating.

One reason why today is such a big party day is it's a homecoming day -- a lot of people are back 'home' for high school reunions and T-day, so they visit their old stomping grounds (bars, clubs).

234 I remember waking up at around the age of 42 and saying to myself, "going to bars and getting drunk is really getting fucking stupid." --------------- Happened to me at about the same age. One night I walked into a local watering hole, ordered a beer. The barmaid and I were on first name terms. She put the beer down, I looked at it, and it just hit me. I looked up at her and said, "You know what, I'm drinking that beer for the wrong reason". She immediately picked it off the bar and said, "Then don't drink it". Sweet girl. At any rate, it caused a reappraisal of my drinking habits.

Posted by: BCochran1981 - Credible Hulk at November 27, 2013 09:13 PM (GEICT) My dad worked at a chemical plant. When the siblings and I got old enough my dad would look at the schedule, find a guy with young kids who was scheduled to work the day shift on Christmas Day, and offer to switch with him for another day during the summer. He was never turned down; I'd guess it spanned nearly 20 years. It didn't matter to us what day we opened presents, and one year we celebrated Christmas on the 22nd.

My brother doesn't have the days to take off.   Don't forget that due to work reasons she's been up here and he's been in SC for almost two years now.   This is why I have no sympathy, none at all, when Boy BFF starts whinging about maybe possibly having to move like 45 minutes away for a job for him.   Boo freaking hoo, suck it up buttercup, people put up with worse.

Mmmmmm fried turkey.  I'm a decent cook, when I can be bothered, but Mommy is awesome.   I load a mean dishwasher though.

Dad is doing okay, thank you for asking.   He's had a couple of bad days lately but that's to be expected.

300 A friend of mine sent me this. Thanksgiving eve seems the perfect time to share it. That moment when you're finished and you're just sitting there with your pants around your ankles and your shriveled dick in your hand and you realize that Indiana Jones 4 was a thing that actually happened. You didn't dream it. It's real. And that scares you. All the loneliness of the world comes crashing down square on your shoulders. George Lucas is allowed to continue to walk the planet without a care in the world while you sit here wiping the cum drip that fell into your underwear. In that moment of time, when your head is clear, you realize that nobody in the world will love you as much as you love you. Specially not George Lucas. You pull your pants up, go outside, and have a quick smoke while contemplating your existence. Feeling a little bit guilty you decide to be more social, make plans to go out that night, have a few drinks with friends, maybe meet a girl. What happens is, you go out, get a little tipsy, start a long diatribe against George Lucas and his decimation of a great franchise to anyone that listens, go home alone, load up porntube and start all over again. Fuck you George. Fuck you.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's not religious per se, but I always see it as a time to thank God and this country for our blessings. And it's struck me that, after envy, ingratitude is the biggest sin of the Left. They can't be grateful or a great, but imperfect country - no they have to whine and bitch and stomp their feet because we're not as good as - Sweden. Or Cuba.

A Happy Thanksgiving to all Morons and 'ettes. I can't wait for the sweet potato casserole.

Wanna guess what happened when he tried to run away wearing full scuba gear, including fins? We also have pictures of him riding a statue of a rocket on campus. In nothing but his boxers.

He was there before I arrived and left at the same time I did (aka. he made it through more than the whole game). His family lasted 3 quarters. It was pretty chilly, and I can testify because I was wearing layers.

Thanksgiving is one of the few days I get off. Oh the joys of being in the dept. that makes money for the company.

Be safe, have fun, and don't wind up on COPs. If you must, make it something we talk about for years to come!

485 >>>>so why is one bird happy to see another bird dead and cooked on a big plate?>>>>>

It's like those barbecue restaurants that have a sign with a happy pig in the chef's hat.

"Come on in and eat the dead bodies of my family and friends!"

It's about as good an ONT as you are likely to see from Ace.

He's ONT challenged.

Pies baking, wine chilling, cranberries jellied, sausage cooked and mixed with onion, celery, sage, thyme, etc chilling together to be combined into stuffing tomorrow a.m., starting stockpot next then cracking a beer.

I am thankful for this blog too;  for Ace, the cobs, the regulars.  Thank you all for existing so vehemently in this wonderful space.

490 >>>>My cousin was a Marine, was in vietnam in 67-68 during Tet, got over run twice and lived. I asked him about full metal jacket and if boot camp was really insane like that. He said pretty much, sometimes worse.>>>>

R. Lee Ermey improvised all the dialog from the training sequences in Full Metal Jacket. The actors didn't know what he was going to do or say.

He also said in an interview that yes, he used to punch recruits in the solar plexus when they screwed up. Since they were going to Vietnam and their survival depended on their training, he says those punches saved a lot of lives.

491 I'm grateful for my family, my friends, my shelves and shelves of books, my hogsheads of ale and firkins of bacon vodka, my health, and most of all, the SCOAMF and his minions.  Why?  Because I was on auto-pilot for so many years, and his bald-faced, brass-plated bastardy has forced me to reevaluate what I thought I knew, educate myself, and figure out what it means to be a truly free person.  Thank you, Kim Jong O, for unintentionally opening my eyes to the beauty of the founding principles.

God bless ya and all the cobloggers.

That wasn't insane, that's what was. You don't build warriors with cookies and cake.

Ain't like that no more, and God help us.

499 Let's add to the 'stupid scam' meme. And, let's attribute it to some sort of white guilt/elite-by-association trip. Will Smith, I mean, David Poitier, I mean... David Hampton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hampton
