Head Of Oregon Obamacare Exchange Resigns For Personal Reasons And Because The 160 Million Dollar Website Didn't Successfully Sign Up A Single Person, But Mainly Because Of The Failed Website.
— Open Blogger

The head of the Oregon Obamacare exchange resigned just this week. The state spent $160 million dollars on the website and didn't hit their targeted numbers, assuming their targeted numbers were greater than zero.

It was Lawson, chief information officer at the Oregon Health Authority, who decided the state could manage the complex exchange project itself, rather than hire a private-sector systems integrator, a decision since criticized by her superiors. Lawson also was close to Oracle Corp., the California technology giant that has been blamed for doing shoddy work and repeatedly missing deadlines.

Nearly three months after the federal deadline for a functional health exchange website, Oregon’s exchange has emerged as a technological train wreck and a PR nightmare. The state has paid more than $160 million and a fully functional site remains weeks — perhaps months — away.

State officials have been forced to spend even more money gearing up a massive system of temporary employees and contractors to manually process paper applications for health insurance.

Oh and she made $178,992 a year. Everyone should work for the government, they over pay and don't expect results.

16 Not enough contrast is being drawn to highlight the the advantages of free market capitalism, where competence and convenience brings financial reward, vs government dominant statism, where lack of performance incentive brings predictable results. Obamacide is the residue of one party statism crowding out free markets. There's another name for that type of ism, Â…Â….it'll come to meÂ…Â….

AND the cherry on the to of the sunday, my McMansion has sprung a leak. I have a water stain on the ceiling of the master bath in the water closet. That makes the savings account tremble. I must climb up into the ceiling spaces and find it. I must go. Have a great day my friends, later.

47 Ahhh yes. Because Government *always* knows better. These exchanges were presented with the Herculean task of functionally replicating the selectquote website...with a few lookups to verify income and stuff. The number of wheels that have eben recreated from scratch (incorrectly) because some progressive somewhere thought he or she knew better than human nature...it's simply mindboggling. Now you have consultants tripping over contractors while they're trying to backstab asskissers. Everyone's fighting to stay in or stay out of the crosshairs of the limelight...and occasionally the Governor shows up. Remember when they were describing the asteroid in Armageddon...and they just settled on "worst environment imaginable". From an IT perspective, I'm not entirely sure how one would make it much worse if they actually tried.

Oh yeah.  If you can spell SQL, there is full employment in the health care space for as far as the eye can see--because the vast majority Americans are used to having health insurance, so things are going to done over and over again until folks are at least minimally satisfied.  I know this is very cynical, but, wait until the bodies start piling up--real middle class people are going to die due to 404Care and then the excrement will truly hit the whirling air movement systems.

Such sessions can be tough on an aged Senate. Reid is 74.

Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) Ah, F It. at December 20, 2013 I'm beginning to wonder when I see comments like this on conservative sites. The pattern has gone on long enough to be considered a Law of Nature at this point: These people do not give one single, solitary fuck about "legal". The only way they factor it in at all is in the context of its being an obstacle to be worked around. Imagine walking down the aisle of your local grocery store, and some idiot has left a cart parked in the middle of it. You step around and keep walking. When we hear a story on the news about people getting hacked to death with machetes in a sub Saharan African hellhole, we don't ask, "Don't the machete men know that's wrong?". At this point, we're so far past that question, you might as well not bother asking. Is it legal? No. But if the opposition party has no teeth and the legal system has no balls to stop any of it, the question stops being, "What are THEY going to do about this?" and becomes "What am *I* going to do about this?"

171 It never crossed my mind to do it any other way.>>

I quite often get called over to a piece of lab equipment that one of my co workers will say is broken. Step through the normal start up procedure and it works just fine. They think I'm magic.

173 I'm trying really hard not to wish the worst for Reid.  It is hard to have compassion on those that have actively worked to harm my family and me.

176 Good thing having a big ol' gap in insurance coverage isn't important or anything.  I mean, who gets sick these days?

177 I work for the government.  I have been shunned and cut out of meetings for producing results lately.  You can't make the highers feel threatened by your talent or knowledge.  You must sit quietly and take it and keep providing the product for them to claim.  I love the people at the agency, but it may be time to head out for my own sanity.

178 ...and repeatedly missing deadlines. Given the circumstances, they probably couldn't have been met anyway, regardless of how much money was spent.

180 Most governments, local, state, federal, have a complete disdain for those that know how to do things. Oregon is not an outlier. Oregon proves the rule that pols and their minions never got out of the university with an adult brain. Pols and their minions are simply sycophants, feeding their respective egos, and nothing more. It is what they developed at university. I am surprised, really surprised, that Oracle, the be-all and end-all of database development is reported to have failed in Oregon. They failed, likely, because they were being micro-managed by the unable, dictatorially.

181 "Everyone should work for the government, they over pay and don't expect results."

The government sounds a lot like a taxpayer...
