Here We Go: Some Republican House Members Now Pro-Amnesty
— Ace

Via Hot Air, there are only so many times one can say "I'm quitting this party and will henceforth only support third party candidates."

Well, I have said it. Many of us have. We mean it. And it's over.

Go ahead and do what you like, GOP. The divorce is final.

Done.

Members of Congress have been on recess for only a few days, but it already seems the time away from Washington means more support for a pathway to citizenship among some Republicans.

In the past few days, two Republican members of the House of Representatives — Daniel Webster in Florida, Aaron Schock in Illinois — have expressed preliminary support for a way to legalize undocumented immigrants and allow them to eventually earn full citizenship. Even the House GOP whip, Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), announced support for legal status, although he stopped just short of supporting full citizenship.

Meanwhile, in more Donzo news, Chuck Shumer says he doesn't mind the Republicans' piecemeal strategy (passing small separate bills on immigration), because he intends just to collect them all up into a single bill which will be "conferenced" with the Senate, and then he'll deliver amnesty just as the Gang of Eight has long plotted.

I guess this is why I'm not terribly political anymore, or it seems as if I don't care as much. I don't. I knew this was coming, I knew there was nothing to stop it.

There will be a third party and there will be a 20 year period of Democratic dominance.

It is unavoidable.

So I have retreated into a sort of philosophical take on it all. Politics isn't fun when you always lose and worse yet your team plays to lose, because secretly they have a great deal of affection for and allegiance to the other side.

There's no point plotting this move and that move; all moves are failures and result in the same dismal outcome. I don't know if it is an effective strategy to just retreat into the completely impractical/philosophical, but I do know I have no interest in playing a ludicrous game in which there is only one set of permissible moves and only one permitted outcome.

I don't want to play this pretend-game. There is no point to this pretend-game, except to snooker people into thinking they have some input into the system, which they do not.

For those of us who are done: You may have our acquiesensce but you will no longer have our votes.

Gerbil Out Party: I wrote this to rockmom:

rockmom, they are determined to do this.

It's like I say about gerbils. Gerbils will always get out of their cages because all they do is plot 14 hours per day how to get out of the cage. They have no other thoughts. They have no other goals.

You cannot control something that is plotting every waking hour to escape the cage.

The Republican Gerbils want this, they will never stop wanting it, they will never stop, period.

I'm tired of fighting with them. At some point, you just accept that the Gerbil wants to be free to be eaten by the cat. And you let him go.

Because you have better things to do with your time than minding a Gerbil all day long.

You know, all these months that Mickey Kaus has been saying "Hey, don't go to sleep, we have to fight amensty," I've been thinking one thing: What's the point? It's kabuki. It's nothing but a never-ending string of "breakthroughs" and "dramatic compromises" and "billions of new dollars for border security" all with the exact same goal, to con us into acquiescence.

It's always the same deal, they just try to think of somewhat different ways to say it. Like a very bad tv show. Which it all actually is, in a very real way.

But I don't want to watch this crap. And I've said so continuously.

So I'm done.

Gerbil Credit: Steve_in_hb wants credit as he first explained the Gerbil Principle to me. Except he said Hamsters. I changed it to gerbils "to make it my own."

There fore he's just as complicit. Like a felony murder rap.

The Senate, I've long written off because of McCain and McConnell as being a lost cause.

I suspect Palin won't be much use in forming a 3rd party. (that's why she let her contract expire and then renegotiated another fairly quickly) She may be useful in funneling some bucks around but don't look for her to assume any leadership role unless it's one by acclamation.

No. We're on our own.

I won't say I won't vote but I'm not voting for any Republican and certainly not for any Democrat. What choices I'll have after that, I have no idea.

As to a 20 year Democrat/Liberal hegemony; I say that the sooner people get a taste of what's really in store, the faster and longer any reformation will take place. Unless they gas us first of course.

46 Continue to vote for the best candidate for each office. Continue to advocate for positions that you support. None of that has anything to do with a political party. The only thing a party has been good for is drafting a platform, parts of which a candidate can choose to espouse. I know I'm simple, but I don't see what has changed. They take ungodly amounts of time, effort and money, not to mention regulatory compliance that requires special attention, but they exist. A third Party cannot invent 50 million new voters, so they must subvert 50 million from the Republican/Democrat Parties. In the end it will require a platform, and some regional/philosophical compromise, like all platforms do. Will that advance the cause so much further?

The Left's ambition in this country for decades has been a Soviet-style government with them in permanent charge of it. After all, it's what they've done in every other nation in history where they've gotten enough power.

The difference this time is that there won't be any free nations on the other side of the wall to show the inhabitants the truth behind their system.

If I have to fight all of the Dems and all of the RINO's and all of the "moderate Republicans" and all of the "establishment Republicans" then I'll do it. We have to get up every single day and fight these bastards. Why? Because if we don't who else will? We don't owe it to the future, we owe it to the past to do everything we can to save this county. For me that means fighting these monsters and getting behind people like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Scott Walker etc. Sure, we are outgunned, out numbered, low on supplies and running out of time. That's as true now as it has always been. What's more is that we are going to lick these people out of their boots. 124 screw third party. What this country needs is an IRA type organization to fight our oppressors.

The American experiment lasted as long as it could.  It is time for a new experiment, and that has to start with rebellion and revolution against those who seek to (and are succeeding at) destroying America.

From this experiment, we have learned that no matter what the original intent, all institutions/gov'ts will become more and more tyrannical.

So, we need to create a new system, with a new constitution with even more checks and balances on power, with even more limits on gov't power spelled out, with clearer language regarding things like "interstate commerce", "freedom of speech", "freedom of religion" and the right to bear arms.

It is time to feed the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants.  It would have to start with small  groups doing actual activity and grow into a bigger movement, but the time has arrived.

We have reached the point in the downward slope where the power accumulated to the federal gov't will accelerate at a geometric pace.  Once Obamacare is in full swing, almost every aspect of life is controllable because it affects the cost of healthcare.  We already see that in the name of "healthcare", religious rights can be trampled.  It is only a matter of time before Churches are forced to perform gay marriages and provide abortions.

I don't have patriotism toward what America currently is.  I care very little about the nation as it is currently formulated.  I care about the America that was and was meant to be.  But they are gone, never to return.  Instead, we must move forward to create something new from the ashes of America that we create.

126 Ok, let's be honest folks. When you go in to vote, weather you vote straight party line or not, look at the names. Do you really know anything about them? The state officers other than governor. The state legislators. The local politicians.

Admit it, you don't know anything about them. So we all vote 'party' hoping the party stands for something. We don't have time! So we trust the news, but do you read the local news? Who wants to read about zoning, or local budgets, or taxes, or the schools. Do you even know who you are voting for on the school board?

Judges? is to laugh. You get a hand out with a paragraph for a biography.

So now we're all dill pickles. We can't trust the party, we can't trust the news. We certainly can't trust the politicians. So what are we going to do?

It's an honest question.

Jumping into the shit bucket with both feet...

Has anyone here heard of ObamaCare?  Want to know how a terrible piece of legislation like this got passed?

It's because they had a plan and we didn't.

We could have come up with a conservative healthcare plan that embraced individual responsibility and fiscal sense, but everyone was too busy fantasizing that everything was fine just the way it was.  It wasn't.

Bitch, moan, jerk your knees, scream and yell, but that's the situation.

Now, the same thing is happening with immigration.  We could put together a conservative plan that secures the borders, handles the people who are already here and follows all the principles and values everyone claims they uphold.

But no.  We would rather demonize anyone on our side who attempts to craft a conservative alternative.  All the "true conservatives" have their heads planted firmly up their asses pretending that the status quo is what we need.

We'll lose this battle too.

It's time to focus on discussing how to solve problems with conservative plans instead of just bitching about liberal plans.

Southern California, particularly the San Diego area and parts of Los Angeles County look like Mexico. I really don't recognize the state anymore. But I find it fascinating that the very people (rich, liberal whites) championing amnesty here in California, are the ones in their segregated communities. Sure, you need your housekeeper, nanny or gardener to continue to service you. But what about the rest of us? It's all fun and games until the illegals try to move into their communities, especially with the new HUD policy going into effect. Blacks are now starting to complain about amnesty for the illegals, but I think it's "too little, too late" for that. And I'm not surprised that members of the CBC sold out "their constituents", of which I am not one. I have been saying it for a long time, and it bears repeating...people don't believe fat meat is greasy. Anyway, I welcome a third party, especially if it's the Tea Party.

The state has become too large to change now.  Liberals and the courts have mostly eviscerated the constitution - to the point where it is almost a meaningless document.  The best a new party can do is slow down the disease.  It could never cure it.

To cure the disease you have to destroy the host and create something new.

150 Being from a STEM field, I know what the importation of people from poor countries do to wages. Not that I would have it differently, but I know if being a native English speaker had the same barrier to entry for my field as for the humanities, I'd be rollin' in the dough. These people who all (sorry to keep harping on this) went to law school and never encountered a foreign-born person outside of the faculty who taught their mandated STEM class only see immigrants as a way to get some sweet slave labor and some cheap-o science and engineering. They themselves are protected. But let's think about why we're really concerned about legalization and path to nonsense or whatever. It's because we can't afford it. Low-skilled people plus chain migration brings a high demand for social services. Well, as conservatives/libertarians, we don't want the elaborate social services in the first place. We're trying to maintain a system we're really not interested in. The oldsters are invested in Social Security and Medicare. Obama's destroying Medicare and immigration will be the death knell of Social Security.

151 There will be a third party and there will be a 20 year period of Democratic dominance. It is unavoidable. ********** 20 years is optimistic. How long before the Tea Party can check it--the Democratic Party? Also they have to really be a PARTY with all the legal aspects and be willing to do the work that is required to achieve that.

193 Politics is merely symptomatic of America at large. Winning elections - and installing elected officials that will reverse course and deconstruct the Leviathan - can only happen when we take back the schools, and thereby change the culture. You are looking at a hell of a lot longer timeframe than 20 years. It took the bastards almost 100 years to get us to this point. They are not going to give up and therefore, regrettably, blood is going to have to be shed. That will take decades to accomplish and by then, it'll be a completely socialist nation with an economy like Greece's.  If it happens at all (it won't).

the vast majority of Americans are lemmings at best.  Politicians, as a class, are going to always move left - it is far easier to win an election and/or win reelection promising people the world and passing "feel good" legislation than actually confronting problems and telling people the truth.  So, even a third party is going to end up with politicians doing what the GOP politicians do.

No, we have to create a new constitution, which even more explicitly and more severely limits gov't power.  that creates even more checks and balances, that provides even more specific individual rights and that spells out explicitly that gov't does not exist to take care of the individual from cradle to grave.

Anything else is just pissing in the wind at this point.

The day after George Bush's immigration bill went down, Republicans should have been crafting their own damn bill.  But since this has somehow become a new litmus test for how conservative you are, I guess too many of them were scared to even touch the issue - and the reactions here seem to prove them right.  The people who beat back Bush's bill apparently think they can keep killing these bills forever.  It's possible they are right, but I would not count on it.

it is in this case.  The host is the gov't and our current laws.  The problem is not "party" - it is human nature.  It is human nature to cease more and more power.  so, incumbents bring onto themselves more and more power that they shouldn't have.  It is human nature to do what is easy.  So incumbents pass feel good laws and ignore that pesky constitution.  It is human nature to want what others have, so people seek to grab what you have.

The constitution was written to combat human nature.  But, over time it has been corroded to the point of no longer working.  Simply creating a third party will do nothing.  Trying to change the GOP will do nothing.

234 Ace, The major political parties are nothing more than a coalition of different groups. The main function of the party is to build up campaign infrastructure. We do not need a third party. What we need is a coordinated political machine outside of the party. Then, we run our people in the GOP primary. That is what the Democrats did. Colorado is a prime example of that. We elect individuals, not party slates. Political parties are a tool. The GOP can be a useful tool. We don't have to take it over, but just use it.

239 I don't think you are seeing "defeatism".  Rather you are seeing absolute frustration.  Heard Corsi interviewed on his new book.  He analyzed how the GOP lost and I found out the "software didn't work" rumor wasn't a rumor.  Up until the last minute Romney was confident that he'd won.  The numbers were on his side.  So what turned the tide?  The democrats had an amazing get out the vote program and software that literally figured out you didn't vote and sent you emails, personal emails from the president, until you did vote.   The republicans seem to be resisting these tools.  And, as long as the resist using the tools they're going to lose.

I can't understand how, when poll after poll says Americans don't want an immigration bill now, the republicans think this is the most important thing of the year.   You have to wonder if there isn't a two party system anymore and the constituency is the last to know. Or, who is telling the republicans they need to do that?  Maybe lobbyists and democratic strategists in republican garb.

252 I was done after Medicare-D and TARP.  I would have been outraged if a Democrat had initiated these measures, and the GOP had merely failed to oppose them with enough vigor. The fact that the GOP actually created these monstrosities was the end for me.

And then there was Porkulus and ObamaCare.  And there was no opposition.

It was not so much the passage of the actual legislation that demoralized me, that caused me to realize that there is no future in the Republican party.  Legislation comes and goes.

What did it for me was the reasons the politicians gave.  The lack of comprehension, the deceptions, the values being expressed, the sense of history and economics, the basic philosophy of government, and the utter contempt and vitriol they showed at conservatives, economic libertarians and the rest of the (secular) base.

I can't see where the GOP advocates a substantially different set of ethical principles than the Democrats.

Then came World War II and Between 1932 and 1980, America was basically a one party state, but Dems had to be much more conservative due to the Old South being a Democrat monopoly There's going to be a major crisis. If we are very lucky, it will just be runaway interest rates that will cause payments on the debt to go through the roof. But people aren't libertarian. They just aren't. People want to use power to control their environment. Government is power, hence it can be used to get rid of all the things about the world we don't like. And when we think government is in our interest (even though politicians just claim to be) we have a need to make it act. It takes an advanced mind to consider that direct action by a direct hand is not the best outcome for a complex system.

All it will take is the collapse of the world sovereign debt market due to one or more countries being unable to meet their obligations (could be us) OR the new Head of the Fed ignites uncertainty in the markets by mishandling the manipulation of interest rates and inflationary pressures.

Straw man alert.  they would leave if we enforced our laws.  If we made it impossible for them to work, go to school, get entitlements, etc., they would self deport.

what you meant to say is - we don't want them to leave and we want to give them amnesty so we should give them amnesty.

Getting them to leave would be fairly easy.  Just because they don't want to do it doesn't mean it would be hard.  Sure, a small percentage would stay - they wouldn't all leave.  But then it would be a manageable number.

Other straw man - we have to do something!!!!  Why?  They picked their current status voluntarily, and stay here because it is apparently better than where they came from.  So, from their perspective they have it good right now.  We don't owe them anything morally or legally - so why exactly do we have to have a policy on their fate?  Their fate is exactly what THEY CHOSE - to be here "in the shadows".  They can live and die in the shadows just like they chose to. That is their fate.

It is exactly this kind of thinking that means we are doomed.  You believe that we somehow owe other countries' citizens something.  That it is America's responsibility to take care of them and give them things.  Exactly how are you not a liberal?

You get assignments based on how well you carried out the last assignment. In order to gain credibility with the party leadership you have to win their approval. You work for them, and your (our, conservative) policies don't work to advance the party leadership.

If you want to gain influence with the GOP you have to think like a union organizer, or an outside special interest group. You have to show up at a GOP leadership meeting representing multiple millions of other voters who you have influence over. So look what happens to the GOP interest groups, the Family Research Council, or Focus on the Family or

284 I just want the right people punished.

If say 90% of Republicans in the House votes against Amnesty, is it really fair to dump the whole Party and go somewhere else?  Maybe.

I will say though that if something resembling the Senate bill ends up passing, it won't matter, it will just be a slow motion burn for the next few decades.  I just don't see some "perfect" form of government rising up, that's not usually how these things go in human history.

One point, these people that say "I knew the GOP was done when Romney was nominated", Romney was probably the most anti-illegal immigrant nominee the GOP has had in several generations.

Reagan actually passed a blanket amnesty, Dubya tried and failed, McCain was doing his best with Kennedy, etc.  Romney was one of the few that actually took a pretty tough stand, vetoing the "DREAM" act in Massachusetts (unlike Perry) and calling for self-deportation.

**********

This is where I'm at.  It's where I've been since the 2012 election, although I don't necessarily attribute my bitterness JUST to Republicans but also, to an extent, the American voting public as a whole, because they're either too gullible or lazy to really make intelligent choices about the future of their country.

I used to be way more interested in politics.  And I still am interested, obviously, because I still read a political blog like this daily, but I discuss it and debate it a lot less, really.

Because what's the point.  The "right" always seems to lose, in part because the media and those who control education and entertainment are in collusion with the left, but also in part because the GOP doesn't really want to win (it would appear), and frankly, most Americans seem content to just go along with the ride as we keep speeding towards the cliff.

It's just endlessly depressing.

So might as well just sit back, as we slouch towards Gehenna, and wait for the inevitable crash.

Some 60.6 million people, or nearly one in five people in the United States aged 5 or older, spoke a language other than English at home in 2011, according to the report. That is up from 23 million in 1980, or almost one in 11.

As long as it is possible to fake a Social Security card, they are going to stay.   Please tell me how you stop people from faking Social Security cards.

Democrats are desperate to make all these people legal, primarily to get them paying into Social Security and paper over the impending bankruptcy of the SS fund.   Liberal policies over the last 50 years have made sure we otherwise will not have enough people working to support the massive numbers of Baby Boomers when we all retire.   They can't raise the payroll tax any higher and they won't cut benefits or significantly raise the retirement age.

The way to handle the multiple situations we have is to put together a new Contract With America.  In it, we can have our healthcare plan, immigration plan, gun control, tax plan and whatever else we want.

We school the incumbents and the potential candidates so that they can speak intellegently on the plans and make the 2014 midterms a real cause.

Everyone hates Obamacare.  No one but the craziest of liberals wants to give citizenship to illegals.  Everyone agrees that criminals and crazies shouldn't have guns (but everyone else should).  Everyone but the same liberals agree we can't have the highest corporate taxes in the world.

371 Welcome to the world of impotent fury, Ace.

When I first started reading this blog and commenting in '07, I was vigorously rallying against the presumptive nominee John McCain. This was bad for the GOP, I declared. Worse than Bush's compromises.

We got McCain (and Obama)...then Obamacare, with a complicit GOP refusing to filibuster...and the rest...

I remember watching McCain's convention acceptance speech and deciding that day I was done as a member of the GOP. Changed my affiliation to 'independent' the next day.

I was derided for being a "purist".

And again when I opposed Romney.

Decided to lurk because I grew tired of it.

Odd thing is, I'd have to be a member of the party for me to want it to be 'pure'. And seriously, what exactly is wrong with being a purist? Holding to the ideals and refusing to compromise the things this party once said it believed in?

Much as I like a lot of what the Libertarians stand for, I can't subscribe to their Pro Choice and Pro Legalization platforms.

I'll sign on to the Constitution Party when it's formed, and I don't care how small it is for the next few decades.

Romney was the last time I vote while holding my nose and then taking a shower.

I am pro-immigration. And I am STAUNCHLY anti-illegal-immigration. There's nothing racist about that. I don't want anyone, from any other country, coming to this country undocumented and not paying taxes. There is no other country that has this sizeable a population of undocumented immigrants.

No. Other. Country.

I'd say enforce the laws we have but no one wants to, not even the "Right".

So let it burn - not because I want it to - but because it's going to anyway.

Then rebuild.

Don't worry ace. I know it hurts now, but when all the hope inside you dies, you'll feel a lot better.

I've been racking my head with an expansion of the Jeffersonian Tree of Liberty along with the men are not angels concept. I call it The Free Society Paradox. In a society where both ideologies of collectivism and individualism occur, governed by a representative government, the natural greediness for power of man will perturb the representative government. Within the caucus that supports collectivism that greediness for power aligns with collectivist goals of a more powerful governing body. Within the individualist caucus the greediness for power is at odds with the goals of individualism which is to weaken government influence. In this way the caucus for more powerful government will always be unified and the caucus for smaller government always divided. Within this framework where both ideologies share a fairly even representation in the population government is ensures a continual bias for more powerful government that eventually deprives the society of freedom. In short no free society which has both a representative government and accepts the concept of the philosophy of collectivism to be valid and socially acceptable will remain free. So paradoxically to remain free a society has to either not have representative government, OR certain types of philosophies have to be socially unacceptable to the point depriving those that hold them of participation, both of which are hallmarks of a society that isn't free. What I'm not quite sure of is whether randomly selecting your representatives instead of using popular manages this problem so long as collectivism is kept sufficiently small.

Oh and F*CK REPUBLICANS. I'm done. I'm ready for full Democrat control again. LET IT BURN.

392 >>The Wasteland fantasies are just that. Everything isn't going to burn. That's just a retard fantasy. When was the last time you were in Detroit or Newark? Europe and Japan are not the model. Japan is a homogenous society and until recently so was most of Europe (where many of the large cities are indeed turning into wastelands). These places, for all their faults, largely believed in the greater good and were in it together despite their differences. America is different. It was built on a culture of from many into one. Immigrants and people of different cultures were welcomed but expected to become a part of the American culture and ethic. That is the heart of this immigration debate despite the idiots who keep calling racism. This country is losing the spirit and ethic that made it America first. We are becoming a balkanized location of groups, all pulling in their own direction for their own little goals. Look around. Look at the cities. The House is dealing with political pressure, and a loud protest of 100 illegals and supporters is visual and effective, more so, unfortunately, than tens of thousands of constituents. 401 While I agree amnesty is inevitable at some point, I'm not sure it's this congress. Boehner's promise to use the Hastert Rule even for the conference bill was pretty conclusive. His Speakership ends if he doesn't keep this promise: it would be breaking the promise more than amnesty itself. I also think many House republicans have realized there's nothing in it for them. They'll get no credit from Latinos now, legitimately (as opposed to the civil rights bill which a higher % of republicans voted for than democrats) because this is essentially an almost all D effort. The issue doesn't " go away" either because dems will continue to pound Rs saying things like "why should these legal taxpayers not have a right to obamacare, why should they wait so long to be able to vote?" Actually, the only way I can see them losing the house is if they pass the gang of eight and Latino turnout swells (in gratitude to the Ds) and white turnout craters in rage at the Rs. I think most of them know this. Something may pass this congress, but if so it won't look like the gang of 8 (IMO).

418 << This was always the goal of Alinsky politics. Crash the system by overloading it with freeloaders, welfare, food stamps, illegals, etc., and then build a new system from the ruins for the leeches and by the leeches. We are just the cows to be milked for our labor and money. People are being naive if they don't think this was precisely the plan. Just read the friggin book. The whole game plan is laid out very clearly.>>

Absolutely correct.

You know what's not in the plan? Rebuilding.

I looked into this. Alinsky never had a plan to rebuild other than some sort of vague anti-capitalist utopia, but didn't lay out details. All he had were plans on how to destroy.

At some point you have to realize the foundational beams of your ship are rotten and you need to burn it, then rebuild it.

Democrats/Leftists have never built a thing. All they've ever done is torn down either actively or via incompetence (Detroit). Hell, Obamacare is supposed to be a glorious step in the Left direction and they can't even implement it.

So it crashes.

They won't rebuild it. They don't have the skill, or the knowledge. We build the shelters and grow the food. They will turn to us. And we will rebuild it the way it should be built.

419 The flaw in this reasoning is that the Progressives will beat you to that. And when they rebuild, there will be nothing left worth protecting.

Once it burns, it's gone for good.

You will not rebuild. Your corpse will be what their Progressive utopia is build out ofÂ…

The flaw in your reasoning is that it's going to burn no matter what we do. So we need to stop using strategies designed for the "will not burn" path and start applying "will burn" strategies. The first and foremost is. We are getting weaker generation by generation not stronger, so the sooner the burning starts, the better odds we have in all areas that still contain uncertainty.

420 Ace, I get your point about gerbils but you're missing something crucial here: Republicans wouldn't be looking to do this if they thought conservatives who oppose it could deliver at the polls. You're going to have to accept that a politician's primary goal is to retain power. That's not a bad thing. To paraphrase Milton Friedman, that's the business they're in, and the way to make them do what you want is to make it "politically profitable" to do so. CONSERVATIVES HAVE NOT DONE THIS AT ALL FOR EIGHT YEARS. Why was it so difficult getting conservatives out the door to vote for John McCain when we had a good idea of what Barack Obama stood for? Why was it so difficult getting conservatives out the door to vote for Mitt Romney when we knew EXACTLY what Barack Obama stood for? Yes, I know John McCain and Mitt Romney weren't good enough, but who was better? Maybe you don't remember this, but Mitt Romney railed against illegal immigration quite heavily during the Republican primaries. He pounded Rick Perry right out of the gate, accusing him of setting up "magnet programs" for illegals by allowing their children to qualify for state college tuition funding. And Rick Perry's response was the beginning of his rapid slide in popularity. Mitt Romney won that argument and went on the win the nomination. And then he lost the election. Let me repeat that: the Republican candidate who railed the hardest against illegal immigration during the primaries is the one who lost the general election. If conservatives couldn't turn out in enough numbers to propel that candidate to victory, then why should ANY politician care what they think about amnesty? They've already proven their position to be a losing one. Why bother trying to please a bunch of people who, at best, show up to vote for them while "holding their nose" and making sure everybody around them knows how negatively they view their own candidate? That sort of word-of-mouth doesn't win elections. Not when young men and women on the other side are literally swooning over their candidate. I can assure you, the "take my ball and go home" game is exactly what politicians want from us right now. The sooner they write us off, the sooner they can start formulating a new coalition of voters that they can actually count on. You want to win? The first step toward winning is to show the fuck up.

Posted by: Caiwyn at August 08, 2013 12:43 PM (MmZIj)

421 Giving up means: 1. ObamaCare stays, until it crashes and takes us with it, 2. We get what's in the rest of Obamnesty, all 1500 unread pages of it. __________ We've already GOT Obamacare because the GOP controlled House has been indulging in show votes to stop it, but not taking any action to defund it or to replace it with anything better. Bottom line - the GOP doesn't have a problem with big government, they just want to be the ones running it.

422 Stop indulging in the fantasy that the GOP will really really pinky swear promise this time to reverse Obamacare. They make promises they know they can't really deliver more than symbolic opposition on. Besides, they're personally exempt from it

Amnesty, something they CAN stop? Nope, we have to accept the "reality" of reaching out to people who love socialism and forgive corrupt thugs as long as the checks don't bounce

Obama's the express train to socialism, McCain is the slow boat - either way, the destination was the same. And had McCain won, those liberal policies he implemented wouldn't have been opposed by the GOP, so the outcome would not have been substantially different from Obama's first two years of full Democrat control. Everything conservatives said about McCain, he's fully lived up to, both before and after the 2008 election.

For the Nth-millionth time, exit polling showed in 2008 and 2012 that  conservatives dragged themselves out to vote Republican yet again, but libertarian and liberal "republicans" pulled the D lever yet again, because "Oooo those icky conservatives" or "hope change" or peer pressure or whatever daemons motivate them.

That's why the Republicans continue to do well in Red States like Texas and get stomped in Blue States like Pennsylvania over and over. As a moments reflection would indicate.

450 Europe and Japan are not the model.

Strip away the PC bullshit and look at what's happening all around us. This is the future the liberals are pushing on us. Not Tokyo, Detroit.

Ever wonder why congressional pay raises need a vote to discontinue, but tax cuts require a vote to continue?  The game is rigged to fall the way they want it.

Why are federal elected officials and thier staffs allowed to insider trade?

The hardest part of being in Congress is keeping from snickering at all you yokels that think your running something.

Its a fucking joke,  when in all your life has government ever tried for less documentation or regulation, yet when it comes to voting, suddenly an ID is a bad thing?  That doesnt maybe raise a red flag?
         Your vote counts for nothing.

You think Democrats give a shit about Obamacare working?  It was designed not to work, so that they would have to "reform" the system, at which time they can reform it to single payer, because we cant go back, because all the insurance companies will be out of business, and most the doctors quit.

The current amnesty bills were set in motion back in 1965 when Kennedy rammed thru Hart-Celler.

Seriously, if you think Romney lost because of the line of attack he used against Perry in the primary, you're smoking something. At the end of the day the vast majority of pro-amnesty (or variant thereof) arguments on the GOP side are political ones, not principled ones. I don't find them persuasive. At a time of tremendous unemployment (and underemployment), I don't see any good argument for an influx of cheap, uneducated labor. Moreover, this fantasy that the Chamber of Commerce wing of the party seems to have that these now-legalized-illegals aren't going to join unions is bizarre. They'll start out cheap then get "community organized" into unions. Once I factor in the national security concerns and the assault on the rule of law, I find myself nauseated by any Republican who contributed to making caving on immigration Top Priority.

The GOP doesn't WANT to change, will actively oppose it, will co-op or coerce newcomers to fall in line. Rubio anyone? Rand Paul is not a republican, and he is not a conservative. We think China is on the brink if 1/3 of it's population is unemployed, yet WE are there. But this is what I know - after 5 years of fighting to build a conservative party, no one wants one. They want the GOP to change and will continue to fight any 3rd party effort - virtually EVERY pundit on the conservative side has said 'to hell with the GOP' only to slink back arguing for more effort to change the GOP. I see no effort to get a 3rd party or conservative party viable amongst the VAST majority of those on the 'right'.

Posted by: Brandon In Baton Rouge at August 08, 2013 04:16 PM (/Crba)"

There are a number of nuclear armed countries that would view a second nuclear armed country in North America as being in their interest since a united and strong United States has made them less able to achieve their national and international goals and a weakened United States is in their interest.  The birth of greater Texas would probably involve close and initially dependent relationship with Russia, China, Iran or North Korea.  Nice friends.

I suppose that there is a possibility of alliance with Israel if the Obama administration tilts farther in the direction that you know they want to go.  From Israel's standpoint, they could expect a whole lot of people in the remainder of the United States to be making Aliyah in response to the sudden decline in popularity they would experience if Israel helped "Jesusland" to leave the union.  Israel would obviously cease receiving the billion dollars worth of military equipment every year but considering that a lot of that equipment is manufactured in Fort Worth, maybe some kind of deal could be worked out.

With the United States diminished and facing a powerful and unfriendly rival on the same continent, the stabilizing influence that the US military plays around the world would come to an end.  Russia would probably dominate Europe.  China would move to dominate Asia and the Pacific, although Japan, Korea, Australia, Taiwan and possibly a few more small countries might assemble nuclear weapons overnight which would raise the stakes on any aggressive moves the Chinese might make.

Of course, negotiating with any of those countries for nukes would meet any definition of treason but that is what secession is so there is that.

471 Good heaven's, I'm going to shut this down and go do something productive. 3 Republicans attend a town hall and see some protestors, throw out a non committal bone and everyone here is going to commit suicide, move to Belize, never vote again, etc. etc. All any of us can do is work on our own representatives. I can't do a damn thing about what a Ill or Florida Rep says or how he votes. But I can influence my own Rep, who is hosting his own town hall later this month. If everyone caterwauling here would continue to work on their own representatives(and no kids, you won't always get your own way with them, they do represent everyone in your district, including the big donors and businesses), we could effect change. As someone pointed out upthread, the democrats keep after their voters and their representatives. Easier for them since they are of the collective mindset and we are of the independent. But as independents, we MUST work on what is important to ourselves and our families, and that means really getting after what representation we do have in the system, not pulling the covers over our heads and crying ourselves to sleep.

487 For the Nth-millionth time, exit polling showed in 2008 and 2012 that conservatives dragged themselves out to vote Republican yet again, but libertarian and liberal "republicans" pulled the D lever yet again, because "Oooo those icky conservatives" or "hope change" or peer pressure or whatever daemons motivate them. Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix Yes, and all that conservative "enthusiasm" (exemplified by complaints about how their own candidates weren't good enough and comments about having to hold your nose to vote for them) must have been terribly infectious and led to a win, right? Oh, right, they lost. You're missing the point. If conservatives can't deliver a win, they don't get a seat at the table. Period. "Showing up" doesn't mean pulling the lever for a candidate that you trash in conversation to everyone who'll listen. It means contributing to their campaigns and knocking on doors, doing what you can to convince people to vote for that candidate. All conservatives have done for the past eight years is complain about how the GOP isn't good enough for them. If a candidate is stellar on enforcing immigration but supports eliminating tax loopholes, do you think any conservative talks about how great he is on immigration? NO! We bitch and moan about how he wants to raise taxes. If a candidate has a stellar record on taxes and spending but supported campaign finance reform, does anybody give a shit about his fiscal record? No! We bitch and moan about his apostasies. This constant negative focus means that the GOP can NEVER WIN. Even if conservatives do show up at the polls, they do so with a complete lack of enthusiasm, and it shows. And the rest of the population sees that. My entire point is that conservatives alone aren't enough. That has always been the case. But if conservatives can bring other people along, then we win. We have not done that. And the Republican party is starting to see us as a liability. If Paul Ryan -- who wrote the first budget reining in entitlement spending since those programs were created, and then took to the airwaves and the internet with convincing videos and eloquent arguments to defend it -- isn't good enough, then NO ONE IS. If Rick Perry -- whose budgetary leadership kept Texas from feeling the 2008 recession less than anyone else, and even grew the Texas economy faster than any other state -- isn't good enough, then NO ONE IS. If Rand Paul -- who exudes adherence to constitutional principles perhaps better than anyone else in politics right now, but who is constantly smeared as an "isolationist" and rumored to be anti-Israel -- isn't good enough, then NO ONE IS. I get the disillusion with Rubio and Christie. Not my cup of tea either. With them it's a question of trust, and people don't trust them to do what we want once they've been handed power. But that didn't apply to Romney. Again, pulling a lever while holding your nose isn't "showing up." Doing what it takes to propel your candidate to victory is.

They could only get 40 votes for an assault weapons ban in a 55 vote D majority when over 60% of Ds support the ban. They're more fucking weak and bought than the Rs. What they do understand is you win elections by buying votes not talking about "principle" 24 hrs a fucking day, and that there was nothing in the Romney economic plan for anyone who doesn't want to start their own business ( hint: most people don't). That's why he fucking lost, not because he was the grandfather of fucking obamacare. Conservatives lose because they don't understand rudimentary political strategy like this. And you are intentionally glossing over it.

At the end of the days, who has the most votes wins. Conservatives have, until now, pretty much held their nose and voted R no matter what our minds and hearts tell us, while the more moderate part of the party always seems to nuance themselves to vote D because drugs or gay marriage or "think about the children" or what have you.

We tried moderation. We're tried reaching across the aisle.

It does not work.

The Republicans keep disappointing the base.  They think because republicans in the end always do the right thing, that the base will be there after they've cheated and had their night on the town, cause the base is always there. I think the tide is changing.  I think people are no longer willing to be there after they've been disrespected.  I think the RINO's and perhaps other republicans who are disappointing will have a rude awakening this next election unless they dramatically turn around which, is unlikely as we, the little folks, the voters don't seem to matter as much as the corporations and the lobbyists and he money folks.

Right after the 2010 Tea Party victory (GOP somewhere in there), when the House leadership completely screwed up the "showdown" with the WH on income tax rates (thereby allowing tons of vile nonsense to be done, incl. on the Senate side, including the end of DADT, another arms treaty with the Russians, etc.). All they had to do was stand tough - the WH had no cards, and the usually worthless Senate GOP had actually done something smart and stated they would not allow any other business until the fiscal/tax things were fixed.

For several days, Hewitt was sputtering with rage and saying exactly what any of us, or anyone with any experience and political/ Capitol Hill sense would say, about the ridiculous, disastrous fumble by the House GOP.

As I say, an interlude. Then back to more ass-kissing with vile cretins from the "press" like Crowley and worse. And even his actual area of expertise, the law, he barely uses. We are in a state of lawlessness, utter collapse of serious standards, in disparate areas from bankruptcy (GM and Chrysler bond-holders) to immigration to inter-branch balance (recess appointments, etc.) to the devolution of the DOJ into a weird race-baiting gang to the big constitutional issues (the SCOTUS has become a farce, its "rulings" literally risible and preposterous). But Hewitt barely touches on these. I get the feeling that many invested in the legal/judicial industry via work or education are complete prisoners of their social and self-regarding obligations and motivations - very few will acknowledge much less speak up on the the collapse of the legal system outside mundane business law and everyday criminal law.

529 I just sent back a RNC fund raising letter I got in its postage paid envelope.

For party affiliation I corrected it to "Unknown".

For Membership Status I corrected it from Lapsed to "Abandoned".

For US Representative I corrected it from Pete Sessions to "None if Pete Sessions votes to Amnesty Illegals"

For Donation Amount I put "Other: Nothing"

Plus a note - Not one dime, not one vote until amnesty for illegal aliens is dead, dismembered, burned and buried.

I encourage everyone to do something similar.  Maybe a few million voters threatening to leave the party will make a difference.

Why not be on the winning team if Republicans are just going to help deliver the Democrats' top priorities?  Since I'm holding my nose in the voting booth every four years anyway I might as well go full retard.

See. That's where you're wrong. Democraps are pure political ideologues first and foremost. Period. End of story. No Compromise. Now they'll "moderate" their views come election time IF their state leans Right. They have no problem lying like a whore in order to advance the Party ideology. The end always justifies the means. Because the public is a herb of moronic mouth breathing cattle (which they are).

However, once they are re-elected they instantly fall right back into lock-step synchronicity with the uber-left Party Platform. They get their minds right - or else.

I am clearly not making it past your assumptions about what I am writing.

This place often degenerates to constant bitching about how our representatives are not perfect.  Well, they aren't.  But they can be manipulated and they will grudgingly go along with the political tide.  If the tide is big enough, they will switch to claiming they started it all and try to take all the credit from those that did.

So, everyone has some basic choices -- complain, shut up, or do the things that make politicians change how they vote.  No one here needs any help with their ability to complain, and no one here is at all interested in shutting up.  So, the only question left is: is anybody actually interested in ideas about getting politicians to change how they vote?

And, no, I am not talking about their principles.  As far as I can tell they don't have any.

On a related note, how many states got rid of their "millionaire" tax?  Indeed, Wisconsin, which otherwise has proven rather resistant to the Occupy crowd and where the Pubbies ran in 2010 in no small part on repealing the hundred-thousandaire tax imposed by Jim "Craps" Doyle (WEAC/HoChunk-For Sale) and his fellow Rats in 2009, actually reinforced the hundred-thousandaire tax by keeping the entire bracket and lowering its rate by the smallest percentage-point amount.

Why is that?  Why have the small-yet-violent Occupiers succeeded where the large-but-peaceful Tea Party failed?  If your answer ends with "presstitute organ coverage", you're limiting yourself.

541 Let's for a minute imagine Boehner and House Republicans have zero principles and are only out for themselves.  I know, it's a stretch, but try.

What on Earth do they get out of this?  I don't think they're stupid, just selfish and spineless.  But Boehner will be gone as leader if this passes, at least a 100 House Republicans will have tough primaries even if they didn't go along (there will be a "throw all of them out" mantra) and there will likely be a real 3rd party challenge to dozens of seats.  All of which will put the House within reach for Democrats next election, to say nothing of the long term consequences of legalizing 20 million new Democrats.

What again is the benefit of all of this for the GOP?  A pat on the head from Joe Scarborough?  A thousand dollar check from the local Chamber of Commerce?

No matter what your motivation, it's just stupid all the way around.  I honestly can't figure it out, even if I was approaching it from a nihilistic perspective.

547 ______________________________

Ace Ace Ace Ace Ace:

America's obscene, de facto Open Boarders policy is just a byproduct of an obscenely huge federal government that mindlessly 'believes' that it can do anything and handle any problem.

More importantly, the game of winning elections to curtail a huge federal government was decided long, long ago.
I only finally realized that that game had long been over when Obamacare was passed into law. That event caused me to take a close look at the last 80 or so years of history and realize that the US federal government has only ever had one Leviathan trajectory.

Sure, I vote. Yes, I wanted Romney to win. And yes, I will continue to vote. But I haven't been under the illusion that elections might be able to solve America's gargantuan problems since Obamacare passed.
And it would make no difference even if the Republican party were behaving much better than it is and playing to win. We could have ten more Ted Cruz like figures and a majority in the Senate; fifty more in the House like him: and it would not make any difference in the long term trajectory.

There is only one solution to America's problems: a Constitutional Amendment that provides new mechanisms of checks and balances to limit the taxation power of the federal government.
Note that a balanced budget amendment won't do the trick because there is no enforcement mechanism. - It would just lead to endless blatant violations of the Constitution which in turn would only further weaken the Constitution.

Here is what has to happen:
Article 1 Section 8 must be severely revised (via amendment) to state that Uncle Sam does not have the plenary right to tax anything it wants anytime it wants for any reason it wants. If such an amendment were to also give the lion share of taxation power to State governments yet make those State governments accountable to the federal government: voila, we would have a new set of mutual checks and balances over taxpayers dollars. The balanced between the US government an all 50 State governments.

"You think the federal government will just stop taking our money because it's written down on paper in the Constitution that they habitually ignore? What would be the enforcement mechanism to stop them?" - one might ask.

You don't need one.

Once the Constitution plainly states that any US citizen (or business entity) residing within a State is only obligated to pay taxes to his State government and is no longer obligated to pay taxes to the federal government: all those citizens simply stop sending their money to the federal government.

"Okay then, well what would the enforcement mechanism be to make sure that each State government would pay its tax obligation to the federal government? What could the federal government do, arrest an entire State?" - one might also ask.

No, not the entire State. But the feds could certainly arrest any State government employee (like the treasurer) that obstructed or evaded tax collection.
What would be the motivation of a State employee (even a State's Governor) to not account for and give over the Constitutionally mandated taxes that a State owes the federal government?

So, yes, there would be massive federal intrusion into the accounting books of every State government. -  That's the very notion of a whole new set of checks & balances.

Wouldn't we rather have the federal government probing into pockets of each State government rather than into our personal pockets?

To be sure: Under _current_ federal law, what would happen if Oregon's treasurer arranged for all state employees' paychecks to not have any federal taxes taken out and paid over to the federal government? Obviously, the same thing would happen if you or I refused to pay our federal taxes. The feds would come and arrest Oregon's treasurer and anyone who knowingly conspired with him to evade taxes.

So the enforcement mechanism that would ensure that each State paid its due taxes to the federal government is the very mechanism in place now.

548 jc: "But they can be manipulated and they will grudgingly go along with the political tide."

No, they are manipulating us.

The Party system is a game existing to operate in the furtherance of itself. It is populated by those who actually like governance because it offers the most spoils. The illusion being perpetuated is that voters really matter. Hypothetically, they do, but this is an industry that lives and dies to protect its turf. Incumbency is in the high 90% range. The institutions are not even bound by their own laws because they write their own exclusions. They protect and reinforce their bubbles. They trade votes and spoils to retain their power and are expert at concealing their acts and intent.

The State reigns supreme. The ratcheting moves ever forward as the Leviathan crushes individuals. It happens from the Executive. It happens in the Legislative. It happens in the Judicial. We win an occasional battle but the war is being lost and now by bigger margins.

We are playthings.

- Anyway, that would do the trick.
If the taxation powers of the federal government were to become truly limited, that would massively curtail the size and scope of the federal government.

I know it's hard to imagine how that would make the difference on the issue of open boarders immigration. But it would.

With less money to collect and spend, the federal government would be less busy-body and intrusive.
And it would also sharpen and narrow voters' focus on just what kind of issues the federal government should be handling: like sound immigration policy.

If the federal government were generally curtailed, it would have less to do. And more attention and scrutiny would be focused on the things it did do.

Imagine what this place would look like if that were the case. My conservative representative was swept out of office in 2008 with the Obama fever. He was promptly put back in in 2010 when his 2008 Dem replacement turned out to be a big loser even to the local Dems. He won reelection because not only did a bunch of us work hard to get him reelected but because he was positive to all in his district including the Dems. He was reelected again in 2012 and will be running again in 2014. He has to be representative to the Dem's concerns, and in my particular district, many of the Dem's concerns are the same as mine. The economy, jobs, inflation, foreign intervention , etc. Sure, most of my Dem neighbors are LIV, but are willing to listen. Most have a bit of an anti-government streak, although they have no problems taking from the Gov., mainly because they don't really understand where it all comes from. We have to be more willing to discuss politics with our friends, relatives and neighbors. Lead and educate by example. The only way we are going to change things is starting at the roots. The Democrat/progressives have recognized this and worked at it for years. Why do you think they have expanded so much effort at the inner city, the schools, the university level, this group and that group? Because you have to convince people that you are right and the Progs appeal to the basic instincts of people. There is no reason conservatives can't do the same thing. What is more basic to people than having security(why do you think we have been winning the 2nd amendment fight?), income(the dems promise AND DELIVER-free this and that, social security, medicaid, EBT cards, etc.) Again, no reason the conservatives can't win on that front, but they have to be smart. Conservatives must offer a reasonable alternative-help to get on your feet so no one can ever take it away-not the 'stop the EBT cards for the lazy fu&*s." The conservatives consistantly say no to the progs ideas, but then do not articulate their own ideas. They often appear that they are just the mean parent who says no to little Johnny's dreams and desires, instead of helping Johnny independently achieve his dreams. So where does Johnny go, he goes to the Progs who promise him all kinds of help and safety nets, that of course, never end. Rush discussed this today, about how most people are not self starters. This is true, most need to be motivated and I would add, directed. The progs/Dems understand that well and they motivate the masses with their utopian promises and security nets. Then they direct them with sign up for this and that, (the ObamaCare roll out is an example.) The conservatives, IMO, often are self starters and overlook this, as does the Republican party. They assume people will just naturally think for themselves and will be attracted to the philosophy of the Repubs, and forget that they have to actually offer the direction and motivation.

The ultimate point of the Third Party is Conservative control of the leadership. No matter how many conservative representatives are elected to the GOP, a sizable number will always be peeled away and the power of the remaining will be neutered by the Establishment Power base.

Also, a Third Party will attract the remaining Conservative reps away from the GOP. The end results will be devastating to the GOP Party Establishment because it will remove all political cover for the RINOs since they will have no more neo-con "wacky birds" within the Party to blame for the predictable policy clustefarks that are already developing.

Influence by subtraction. The more Conservatives leave the Grand Old Progressives, the more liberal RINO's will fill the void. There will be little to no conservative "wacky bird" political cover for the RINOs to blame their failed policies on - especially when the Third Party is gaining momentum in opposition to the RINO's.

Which can be done without the suicide mission to the Rat Party.  That was tried once, after the disintegration of the Federalist Party in 1816, and it took 16 years (and 8 after the corruption of the 1824 election) for an alternative to happen.

By contrast, when the Whig Party (said alternative) disintegrated, there was a nearly-ready-made alternative to the Rats (the GOP began in 1854, 2 years after the Whigs flamed out), and by 1861, the Rats were so far out of power they threw a Civil War.

563 My problem on a 3rd Party is we can't all agree what it would look like.

I've got a feeling a "Constitution Tea Party" that rose up would mainly be SoCon idiocy on steroids.  Think Christine O'Donnell (who ran on a  similar 3rd Party platform before getting the GOP nomination in Delaware) and you're probably there.  I have no interest in that wing.

I'm more of a Libertarian conservative, but Libertarians largely support open borders, so they're out.

I like a lot of what Rand Paul is saying, but I don't like his father's Jane Fonda schtick (but I'm also sick of the super hawk bullshit the neocons are spouting)

We're not repeating history here son - we're making it. The script is still being written.

Tell me exactly how infiltrating the Rats, after we proved we couldn't influence the less-hostile and smaller Pubbies, is going to work better than simply going third-party and ultimately shoving the GOP to the curb.

568 564.

I like it

What's funny is, I would say 99% of Republicans I come into contact with largely have the same view, but somehow the wrong people got a hold of the party power structure and the message.

If we can just dodge the bullet of Amnesty, I honestly believe the McCain's of the GOP are on their way out and the GOP future will be more like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.

What exactly do you mean by "infiltrating the Rats" ?

If you mean - voting for Democrap candidates - then that would obviously mean accelerating the inevitable burn-down of the RINO Party. And all the sooner for the Phoenix to rise (so to speak) from the ashes in a Third Party.

Let's go back to the lunacy that you, Reggie1971 and Schaeffer espouse - After that point, I think one idea might be for a lot of us to register as Democrats and do all we can to wreak havoc on their party.  Again, how the fuck are you going to "wreak havoc" on a party that is more-hostile and larger than the one we lost control of?

As for the lunacy of voting for the Rats, what credibiliy does an opposition to a 100% of the vote/100% turnout party have?  NONE!  If you want opposition to mean something, either withhold your vote entirely or vote for somebody other than one who represents either half of the bipartisan Party-In-Government.  Don't give the Rats the 100%/100% "legitimacy" Hugo Chavez, Saddam Hussein, and other despots have.

By giving them all the victories they desire, and there by speeding up the demise wrought through their policies. As stupid and vapid as the mouth breathing public is, they surely have their limit to the amount of policy-stupid they can live with. Let's find out what that limit is. It's inevitable.

Maybe this is coercion.

Uhm..... none of those countries ever tasted the sweet milk of the American Experiment that is the representative republic in their pasts. We have. And that taste still lingers. Making the decline all the unpalatable - even for the stupid.

And if not - then the entire cause is already pointless - no?

576 Limbaugh likes to explain how conservatives stayed home last November because Romney didn't excite or court them. Now you are quitting? Please don't tell me you love freedom or this country when at the time of threat all you do is pick up your ball and go home. That isn't worthy of all those who fought to give us a chance. In fact it is as spoiled and cynical as all those who you claim to detest. Quitters didn't build this contry and they sure as hell aren't going to save it. Damn cowards.

Picking up my ball and going home is a damn sight more preferable than handing it over to the GOP Party of Democrap-lites.

Posted by: Strife at August 08, 2013 05:27 PM (Ojgjr)

578 Romney would not have been a "victory". He would have been the lesser of two losses. But still a loss. The Democraps give us the option of Socialism. The GOP simply gives us the option of bi-partisan Socialism at a slightly slower pace.

Pick your death: fast of slightly less fast.

579 I'm glad Romney lost. He gave Democrats the idiotic argument that Obamacare was a Republican idea. He could never explain why it wasn't, and that was because he never wanted to repeal it, or gay marriage or abortion or gun restrictions. He was full of shit, and they all are. Their plan for America is to make it like Detroit, where 17% of the public bothers to vote and 47% are illiterate. Fuck them.

580 My ancestors came here from Scotland, and our family has lived in WV since pre-Revolution days. We have fought in every war. Every generation has served in the military. We are either coal miners, carpenters or doctors -- builders and healers. Quite a lot of crazy motherfuckers, too, but that's neither here nor there. We were always here for America throughout the years and built this country. We can build another one somewhere else and will.

582 So.... speaking of non-politics, what parts should I get for my AR-15 build? Posted by: HoboJerky, now with 56% more DOOM! at August 08, 2013 03:38 PM (09o/X) Ace wrote, "There will be a third party and there will be a 20 year period of Democratic dominance. It is unavoidable." It should be noted the last time this happened, when disaffected Whigs such as Lincoln and Fremont split off from the wishy-washy, go-along and get-along Whig Party and formed the Republican Party, one thing led to another and events culminated in a cataclysmic Civil War; thus, your query regarding parts for an AR-15 build, given context, are not non-political at all. We live in a different, faster-moving age. There won't be 20 years of Democratic dominance. The authoritarian neo-Marxist Left disguising themselves as Democrats will probably enjoy another 8 or 9 years of unchecked political dominance, with all that entails. After that, they will be facing organized domestic opposition of one kind or another. If we were smart (and most of us aren't), they would be facing it now.

I'm not quitting. I'm not giving up my conservative values. I'm simply advocating sabotage to both the existing socialist parties.

Because..... this isn't a game of winning and losing - this is a war of living and dying. Adapt and defeat. But never quite fighting.

Mike,

Fuck you......no I won't.  You don't get it.... the political parties (yes, both of them) have destroyed any patriotism I had left.  If the day comes that we as a nation move back to the founding, I'm all in.  Til then?  The R's can blow me....I'm not their bitch.

591 "Quitters didn't build this contry and they sure as hell aren't going to save it. Damn cowards."

What I am building for myself and mine are separate from this country. This country is subverted, perverted and a caricature of what the founding fathers bestowed upon us.   Clinging to an ideal, while all around us the reality is smacking us in the face, is lunacy. Its over.  There is no path back to good government, there is only following it down the drain and being ready to take the reins after the collapse.

Here is a clue for you.  if your small government republicans cant even force NPR into the private sector, what fucking chance do you think they have in making a real change for the better?  grow the fuck up and face reality.

592 I, for one, am very, very angry, to the point of being willing to abandon the GOP completely. But it ain't defeat until a) the bill actually passes AND b) the 2014 elections render their verdict on the Dem/RINO amnesty. I can see an amnesty precipitating an election so devastating that it's reversed after 2016 or even 2014.

This bill passes and I'll be more than happy to vote for any party that supports taxing to death the rich sunuvabitches who want to turn us into a country of serfs. But we're not there yet. Keep up the fight.
