— Ace I gotta run out. I hope Hot Air had something interesting here.
Added [rdbrewer]: Something to consider. Erick Erickson points out the poll was conducted by David Winston, a John Boehner adviser.
David Winston is rigging a poll to get some desired results.Winston is a John Boehner adviser and his preferred pollster. In fact, internally, some Republicans grouse that Beohner uses Winston to direct his lead on issues instead of just . . . well, you know. . . leading.
Check out David WinstonÂ’s poll question.
In a national survey of 1,000 registered voters done July 31 and August 1, the question, from pollster David Winston, said, “Some members of Congress have proposed shutting down the government as a way to defund the president’s health care law” and asked respondents whether they favored or opposed that plan.
Yeah, it's a crap poll, designed to grab a few headlines.

Just saw this headline -
'60 is the new 40': Boomers are opting for lavish weddings
Older couples are feeling less self-conscious about shelling out cash to party like their younger peers
And this is a surprise why, exactly? These are the Boomers that are being talked about, after all.

As a man is said to have a
right to his property, he may be equally said to have a property in his

respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or

You know what the least likely entity on this planet to be shut down is? A Federal Government in hock for trillions of dollars still in possession of a printing press.

Lydia, the Tattooed Lady" is a 1939 song written by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg. It first appeared in the 1939 Marx Brothers movie At the Circus and became one of Groucho Marx's signature tunes. In 1950 Groucho famously 'stopped' trading at the New York Stock Exchange by commandeering a microphone and singing the song before telling jokes for 15 minutes, during which time traders suspended their work to watch him perform.

photographers cannot decline to participate in gay-marriage commitment ceremonies,
even though that state does not have gay marriage and the court acknowledged
that providing services for the ceremony violated the ChristianÂ’s
sincerely-held, traditional religious beliefs. This becomes one of the first
major cases where religious liberty collides with gay rights, and could now go
to the Supreme Court of the United States."

Some citizens of the U.S. have proposed shutting down the government as a way to maintain national sanity. Do you favor or oppose that plan?
Posted by: other poll questions at August 22, 2013 02:46 PM (wAQA5)
It doesn't need to be an Obamacare fight. In fact, it should not be.
It should instead be over the exceeding of the previously negotiated debt ceiling.
The national debt clock was basically stopped three months ago by Obama and Jack Lew. They hit the snooze alarm on it, because it was just about to roll over the $17T mark and cause another debt ceiling fight.
They don't want another debt ceiling fight. So they're basically breaking the law to avoid having one.
Protip: if your adversary doesn't want to fight on a particular hilltop, then be sure to make them fight on that hilltop. There can only be one major fight at a time. No one has the stomach for parallel battles.
Here's the deal. If there's another debt ceiling fight, and the GOP loses, what happens? The debt continues to rise. Well, that's the status quo ante. Nothing lost there.
But if we have an Obamacare fight, and lose, we are stuck with Obamacare. If we have an amnesty fight, and lose, we're stuck with amnesty.
Pick the lowest risk option. Make the fight over the debt ceiling, and hurry the fuck up.

Manning shouldn't make assumption like that.
Not long after DC sniper Lee Boyd Malvo went to prison in VA he demanded that they respect his religion and serve him vegetarian food. The prison complied by serving him their infamous "veggie loaf" every night, which is a form of punishment for unruly prisoners (since food is one of the simple pleasures one can still enjoy in prison). So then Malvo's lawyer demanded that they start feeding him the standard menu because the vegetarian option was not tasty. The prison told him to pound sand because that is the only vegetarian entree they offer. Not sure if this ever got resolved, but it sure taught Malvo a lesson on making demands.

Everyone on the right starts bitching loudly when Obama takes his customary long out of town vacations.
No! Knock it off with that shit!
It's best if he IS out of town all the time. Every hour that Obama spends on a golf course at a luxury resort is an hour he's not making new mischief.
The time to turn up the heat is when he comes BACK to D.C. As soon as he returns, make being there unpleasant. Drag him into long boring negotiations. Make him sit through ten hours straight of Paul Ryan doing budget math. Ask him hard questions about policy while in public. Obama hates all of those things.
The guy is intrinsically lazy. Cater to that. Make sure the only time he has any peace and quiet is when he's outside of the Beltway.
The bad optics of the President on the golf course *again* will speak for themselves and don't need to be openly voiced by the opposition.
