Hersh: Obama lied about Syria sarin
— Purple Avenger

Shocker eh?

... A former senior intelligence official told me that the Obama administration had altered the available information – in terms of its timing and sequence – to enable the president and his advisers to make intelligence retrieved days after the attack look as if it had been picked up and analysed in real time, as the attack was happening...

...The same official said there was immense frustration inside the military and intelligence bureaucracy: ‘The guys are throwing their hands in the air and saying, “How can we help this guy” – Obama – “when he and his cronies in the White House make up the intelligence as they go along?”’...

Were it not for the unintended opening snarkily offered by Kerry, that Vlad Putin pounced on...we'd probably be wagging the dog right now.

Since when is the military and intel pukes' job to "help this guy"???? Silly me, I thought that their job was to provide the President with most accurate intel possible, regardless of how it affects the President's poll numbers.

I must be monumentally naive.

Posted by: Carol at December 09, 2013 04:48 PM (z4WKX)

68 OK, so the jist of this is that Obama set up the "timeline" that makes it seem like we know that on Friday, the Syrians did that, and then Saturday morning they did this, and then etc. And our intel did not come in like that, thus the impression given that we actually know what the Syrians are doing as in a timeline is wrong. Makes sense. But wouldn't you create a timeline when you start investigating an incident?

Posted by: sexypig at December 09, 2013 04:51 PM (dZQh7)

69 I think it's pretty obvious that Hersh is lying -- and so is Obama. Hersh lies because reporting big sensational "hard-hitting scoops" is a way to relive his glory days of retyping North Vietnamese propaganda fliers for the New York Times. It's all he knows how to do. Obama lies for a similar reason: his whole life has been built on fraud and manipulating people by telling them what they want to hear. It's all he knows how to do, as well. So in this situation, my guess is that Hersh probably has most of the details wrong: all the minutiae about who knew what when is likely hogwash. But the main fact, that Obama lied about the Sarin intel for political gain is so obvious that it's barely journalism to report it. Of course Obama lied about it. Unfortunately, Hersh's article tells us nothing about what the actual truth of the situation is. We know Obama's lies, and now we know Hersh's lies. The truth? Still hidden.
