Hi-Larious....Massachusetts Wants Waiver From ObamaCare
— DrewM

Popcorn.

Push back in the compliance effort is coming from an unexpected source, the senior Democratic budget writer in the State Senate, Senator Stephen Brewer, presumably with support from the Senate President as well. The amendment that was filed would force President ObamaÂ’s good friend Governor Deval Patrick (D), and his Administration, to seek a waiver from certain elements of Obamacare. The move could come to a head if the provision lands on the GovernorÂ’s desk, resulting in an embarrassing political moment for the Obama Administration since the ACA is forcing significant changes to a state law they claim acted as a model in Washington.

Keep in mind, thanks to RomneyCare Mass already has some of the highest insurance premiums in the nation.

Related(ish)- A Democrat pretending to be a Republican lost the special election to fill John Kerry's Senate term. One of his aides complains that the anti-conservative wing of the party didn't show up to help.

Personally I'm glad he lost. I'm all for RINOs if they help get the majority but this wasn't going to flip control of the Senate and even if he'd won, he'd have to run next year and would lose again.

If someone is going to vote straight Democrat, he might as well be a Democrat.

16 They will get their waiver...they are a Blue on Blue, Heartache on Heartache state. I'm certain they would. That's not the hilarity here. The hilarity (which might not even be lost on LIVs) is that the State which provided the "blueprint" for ACA is actually seeking a waiver from ACA. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et. al.:"Hey, that law is so awesome! We'll model ours on that!" Massachusetts: "F that. We want out."

77 The King..err,President must travel in style. President Barack Obama’s trip to Africa is estimated to cost American taxpayers $100 million – a hefty travel expense that has sparked criticism as the federal government is dealing with its sequester-related budget cuts. The president is traveling to sub-Sahara Africa with his family from June 26 to July 3. The Obamas will be accompanied by hundreds of Secret Service agents and staff, which stack up transportation and accommodation costs. Military cargo planes will bring 56 vehicles including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the Obamas will stay. Fighter jets will fly in the air space above the first family to provide round the clock protection. “For the cost of this trip to Africa, you could have 1,350 weeks of White House tours,” Rep. George Holding (R-N.C.) said on the House floor last week. “It is no secret that we need to rein in government spending, and the Obama administration has regularly and repeatedly shown a lack of judgment for when and where to make cuts… The American people have had enough of the frivolous and careless spending.” Holding reminded lawmakers of the $16 trillion debt the US carries on its shoulders, and scrutinized the administration work spending an estimated $100 million on a weeklong visit. Holding said that while it is important to have security for the first family, the costs for this particular trip are “excessive”.

78 What don't people understand about different political parties having different principles?

If you have a liberal worldview, run as a Democrat. Voters, especially Republicans, even more so nowadays, see liberal Republicans as an anathema. In its base form, it is a dishonest electoral ruse which does not appeal Republicans or Independents in any tangible numbers, but Democrats.

Even the GOP has this problem. In their rush to tactically play the demographic game, they actually lose voters because nobody knows what they stand for anymore. There is no simply worded, one sentence set of principles that Republicans of all stripes articulate. It's a balkanized party of issues which morph into Democrats priorities so seamlessly that voters would rather choose the know tan the unknown.

Ever listen to Reince Priebus or Lindsey Graham? How those people have risen to prominence is actually befuddling. Priebus is probably the most inarticulate chairman in history. Cripes, I understand what Porky Pig says better than him. He laces together a bunch of platitudes interspersed with what he believes are sonorous, issue oriented soundbites directed at demographics he believes are important to the party. Meanwhile voters (Hispanics for one) are laughing at him and the core constituency is like WTF?

Graham (and I don't mean to pick solely on him, there are plenty of others) just pulls phrases and sophism out of his behind that better comports with liberal Democrat thinking than any (past) Republican philosophy (when they had one).

Anyway, you want to know why Republicans are doomed? There it is in a nutshell.

/rant over.

79 It is true, we have the highest rates in the country. Thanks to Mitt Romney. I am the one who receives the rates from our insurance consultants. You know it's going to be bad when a caller asks if you are sitting down. One year, I believe it was 2009. our premiums for the company I work for went up over 30%. My friend told me another company's premiums went up 55%. I have said this before but nothing good ever happened when a republican (Romney) worked with Ted Kennedy. I can still see the picture in my head of Mitt signing the bill with our now jailed former Speaker of the House Sal DiMasi, Ted K with a huge grin on his face and Romney. I'll have to change it now to nothing good ever happens when Juan McCain is involved, as well as Miss Lindsey. They should be purged from the party.

It sure is!

The Federal Reserve chairman has rattled investors recently by suggesting the Fed could curtail its easy-money policies later this year as the economy gets stronger. Problem is, the economy isnÂ’t getting stronger. Not yet, anyway. In fact, itÂ’s weaker than we thought.

Economic growth in the first quarter, it turns out, was just 1.8%. The governmentÂ’s earlier estimate was 2.4% growth. Revisions in economic data are common, but thatÂ’s a large and surprising drop.

156 Regarding my previous: If marriage be a state concern and the Federal government must comply with the decisions of a state, then upon what grounds does the Federal government interefere upon ownership of guns by citizens as decided upon by a state? Upon the authority to regulate the militia? By preventing the militia from having weapons? This seems a curious use of the Section 8 power--"we order you to not have the people train with this type of weapon". How is that not an infringement via the Second Amendment? Of course, on the Supreme Court, where for four justices social desires will always prevail, it is a moot question, but I do ask anyway so that the future might judge for itself the integrity of the present. And the takeaway for posterity should be this: They did whatever they could get away with. Whatever they could get away with. Let not your system be like that.

214 the Affirmative Action crowd already has devised a new metric that does not rely on race.  Its class based, so if you were raised by a single parent, or are a single parent, or have an incarcerated relative, or your family has been receiving "assistance" forever, then you will get a preference.  Affirmative action promoters realized you could get the same people in using those criteria instead.

There is a lesson to be learned, but not the one you think.  If the GOP is the "stupid party", the reason lies in your mirror.

Know how you win elections in a liberal state like MA?  The same exact way the Democrats win in red states- lie.

Difference is, when the Dems pull this, they're smart enough to know that all the campaign bluster about being a "conservative Democrat" is a lie, that when their vote is truly needed, they'll fall in line.

When a Republican tries the same tactic, our side screams "RINO traitor!  I'd rather have the liberal Democrat win, you squish!  Truuuue Conservative or GTFO".  Stupid.

Might it have been the case that Gomez really would've voted with the Dems most of the time?  Sure, but we'll never fucking know now, will we?
