— DrewM Background here.
Boehner is now speaking on the floor in favor of the plan. He thinks he has the vote and even I don't think he's stupid enough to bring this to the floor without knowing it's going to pass. But it's Boehner and the GOP, so....
House Democrat leadership is opposing the maneuver but aren't whipping against it.
Senate Democrats don't seemed too worked up about it either way, so it'll probably pass. And then....who knows.
Update (12:47 eastern): As happens often with the House, they ran long. The House is now voting on a Democratic motion to recommit with instructions that will be killed. Then they will move on to the underlying bill.
The House passed the plan with a majority of Republicans voting yes. The "Boehner Rule" of getting 1 for 1 spending cuts for hikes in the debt ceiling is dead.

^^This, it's effectively a clean debt ceiling raise with an unenforceable condition of a budget (something they'll trot out and say "we tried, but the damn Republicans blocked us again!!!Eleventy!).
So I see no reason to block it. They'll only hem and haw at it to see if they can get anything else out of the Part of Stupid (Kinda like I put in a 2nd counter on my house just to see what would happen, even though I liked the seller's counter. He caved, I saved 5 grand.)

But I think the budget is the hill to die on, not debt limit.
If the GOP didn't want to pay for all the shit for which the bills are coming due, they shouldn't have voted to approve the continuing resolutions in the first place. You cannot have it both ways. If you vote for spending, you need to increase the debt limit to pay for it.

I don't think it's the wrong track, but it won't work.
As I said above, the Senate will pass an unpalatable budget, reconciliation between the two will fail.
CR's for the next four years. The House should have tied it to passing a budget in it's entirety.

The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States.
The wording is going to be interesting... because they SHALL be paid.... so pay CUT to $1.00 unless the budget is passed?

The changes have to be incremental and forcing the Dems to do what should be the most basic of things, passing a budget, is a start. In my opinion, passing the Plan B in the House would have been the start.

If there is a silver lining for Republicans, itÂ’s that they have successfully delinked tax rates and spending issues in this fight. The next round of bargaining will deal only with government spending, and House Republicans will have the debt ceiling as a powerful card to play.

Disagree.
The GOP in Texas is growing. And we are growing by taking hard-line positions. Like pulling all state funding from Planned Parenthood and voter ID laws.
Suppose the Republicans in Texas disassociate from the national party. We've enough to force the national party to accept us in the caucus a la Mercowski.
So what if this means the Dems will have more power? Tell me how this is any different from the Dems getting all they want now?
At the least, there would be one state that will protect its citizens from the federal government. As there are currently zero.

You were in the military. You were often faced with the choice of two bad options and had to pick the least worst. You then did what you could to make that least worst choice work the best. What some believe is a third choice, or creating a third party, in my opinion is suicide. I'd rather work from the inside to change the GOP. I also accept the reality that nothing is perfect and negotiation and compromise is part of the process. There may come a time where I feel as you do, but in my opinion it ain't that time.

Yes you are correct, I grant you everything you just said in the post I am responding to to a point.
I'll be more direct.
Why should I be any more loyal to the United States than Obama's mother, Hillary and Bill and Bill Ayers were in the 60s, than Eric holder was in his rhetoric?

I don't believe that's true, as it assumes the general public has given much of any thought to the matter at all.
More likely, this is viewed as "politics as usual" partisan bickering. Just inside baseball procedural voodoo with incomprehensibly huge numbers that the average person can in no way relate to.
Besides, Obama said he cares about reducing the deficit, so that settles it.

There is this thing called a social contract. The US Social contract is a little more complicated in that it has riders as a duty of government to defent the Life, Liberty, and Property of the Citizens of the US. If the US openly neglects, or acts deliberately in detriment to those duties, in turn, our duty of loyalty is released.

Correct, they are rather fond of the notion of "social contract" and "The Declaration's grants of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness!" being justification for Freeshit Army, but I don't believe that once they have crossed some threshold they are deserving of deference to our loyalty to the past anymore.
I think that is getting REALLY close when we can't pay our entitlements now and they want to add ~20-30 million new mouths at once.
The Deomcrat party has made quite clear that they have no interest in the bill of rights, or separation of powers and I am running out of reasons to grant them any more loyalty than they showed us under Reagan, Bush, or Bush.
