How many clicks to find anything on the internet? [Purp]
— Open Blogger

If you started out with a completely random bullshit Bing/Google search for some phrase like "petulent aluminum cows stampede", how many clicks are needed to reach every reachable place on the internet? My theory is the answer is 5 or less.
Within 3 clicks, an initial random search for the "petulent aluminum cows stampede" phrase brought me to this video about $20 cardboard bicycles made from 95% recycled materials.

If you can get from aluminum cows to cardboard bicycles in three clicks, surely you can get from anywhere to anywhere else in 5 or less, right?

2 I can't report on that. What I would like to know is if Glenn Beck has some earth shaking information about the Saudi National why doesn't he just report it now instead of waiting until Monday? I don't watch his show and I'm sure that he cares deeply about America, but good grief he can be a drama king!

4 ...as if to curtail North Korean insanity... yesterday's Financial Times: "China has deployed near Taiwan a powerful missile designed to take out US aircraft carriers as Beijing strengthens its ability to prevent US forces from aiding Taiwan during potential conflict. The deployment of the DF-21D anti-ship ballistic missile comes as ChinaÂ’s army develops greater long-range and offensive capabilities."

15 From what I heard Beck say yesterday when talking about it, the main reason he was waiting until Monday was because he didn't have a hard copy of the document he was referencing.  That may of course be total BS, and I will be totally unsurprised if on Monday he says his source just couldn't get the document to him.

From what he said, he didn't want to run with it until he had the document, which he said would be Monday (conveniently).  That's where the "govt better come clean before now and then" thing came from.  He's framing it in such a way as to give himself integrity by indicating that he won't tell all until he can back it up with the document.

Don't get me wrong, I like Beck and find him entertaining, but he likes to go over the top with things like this.

52 From the Daily Mail:

The two men arrested last night in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings drive a car with the licence plate that reads: ‘Terrorista #1’

The students, named be neighbours by their first names Azmat and Diaz, drive a black BMW 330XI with the personalised plate and a sticker on the back which reads: ‘F*** you, you f****** f****’.

They are thought to be from Kazakhstan and had not been seen since the bombings until last night when their ground floor apartment in New Bedford, MA, was raided by a dozen FBI agents at gunpoint.

Then he started his self confessed "education" and tried to envision himself a deep thinker. Problem is, he shown he's just the opposite of a deep thinker. He jumps at the lasted thing he happens to read and takes it as gospel without any critical thought. Never thinking how or if his newest theory fits into any historical fact or content.
I see him as our version of Jon Stewart, someone passing themselves off as a lovable clown with a deep intellect. When in fact they're neither.

Posted by: tsrblke at April 20, 2013 01:34 PM (GaqMa) One thing about the weight on the vent hole, it is dead-nuts simple and pretty well foolproof. The old Presto cooker my mother used had that feature, plus it had a safety valve, in the form of a rubber disc with a metal rivet captive within it. Should the internal pressure exceed safe limits, the whole rubber disc was supposed to blow out.

Calling all 'Ettes (commenting or lurking) who like crafts, think they might like crafts, or are at least able to be in a room with crafts happening without running away screaming in terror.

We've started a Ravelry group called  "'Ettes of the Moron Horde"  as a place to unwind from politics and help increase the general knowledge of the Horde Mind.

Ravelry is mostly about needlecraft,  and requires a free account, but the group is general interest with threads about gardening, writing, cooking, etc. along with those about knitting and crocheting. All 'Ettes are welcome, we'd love the chance to get to know you better.

I just read on Drudge that the wee sweet jihadist youth was twittering away during the manhunt yesterday. Now, I may be a moron, but I know, from my NCIS-LA knowledge and other information that I cannot reveal, that cell phones have GPS for "pinging" your position. Maybe it was a "throw away phone" but he could not have had too many and, duh, wouldn't you think they may have followed his social networking?

As they (I hope) knew his twitter name and stuff, and he had to use a cell phone to twitter away that he was "at peace" during the manhunt...well, why did it take the boat man to find him?

TN,

There are certain things that are simply not going to fly in the a market economy (like spaceflight and certain basic science) that I think is acceptable for government to supply funds to (with the consent of the populace of course.)

These typically fall in the realm of "because we want to" types of sciences.

That and things that simply can't be divvied up (like providing for the national defense) are pretty much the limits of government IMHO.

FYI - not all cell phones have embedded GPS.  More and more "smartphones" now do have GPS, but not all.  So, without the embedded GPS, they couldn't have narrowed down his location to anything closer than the area they had already cordoned off.  They just knew he was somewhere in that area.  It was just a matter of time until they found him even without the help of the home/boat owner.

Okra though...that's a good idea. It's like eating snail snot. Foods I particularly hated as a kid: boiled hot dogs. canned asparagus. And that's about it. I never tasted okra until I'd joined the army. Once was enough. Oh...and canned pickled beets...if you have little kids, make them eat some. It makes their pee turn red, which is entertaining enough to get them past the unusual taste.

On top of this, I am currently in the dust and toxic fumes of a bathroom remodel. Here is my contribution to my craftiness this month: my wedding stuff, slated for just one scrapbook, is taking up 1/3 of diningroom table. It looks pretty and I look at it as I walk by several times a day. I have done NOTHING since I put it there a month ago. I have issues.

175 174 Now I'm craving liver and onions I'm the only one in my house that likes it....so it's a very rare treat. Sigh. Posted by: Sticky Wicket at April 20, 2013 02:31 PM (eyJh9) Besides myself, you're the only one that likes liver and onions...I remember that some restaurants actually served it long ago. I'm craving it now that I'm thinking of it.

176 So, did anyone ever find the content about the aluminum cows? I was pretty interested in reading what they were so petulant about and about how they decided that stampeding was going to help anything. If this were TV, someone would be getting paid for aluminum cow content by the deliverer, but here, the content provider is mostly f*cked out of the equation. If I was an aluminum cow, I might stampede if I started thinking about that too much!

178 the sickest I got as a kid was eating that mushy canned asparagus. I don't think I ever actually threw up...and if I had, I would have been the one cleaning it. But I remember many an evening where I sat stubbornly at the table trying to run out the clock to bedtime, while pretending I was eating that slimy, mushy green blech. When my wife and I were dating, we decided to do a dinner at home....she wanted asparagus, and the Sam Kinison voiced seven year old in my head was screaming "Oh no! Fuck, Fuuuuuuck! Run Away!". I went along with the plan....and long story short, fresh asparagus is rather good, so good that we eventually planted our own patch of asparagus.
