— Ace Gawker, a meritless hit-whoring hype site written by, and written for, the dim and the malignant, decided they weren't getting enough attention and published another list of legal gun owners, these located in Manhattan. (The last attention-shriek by the small no-account newspaper published names and addresses of those in Westchester County.)
Ann Althouse links the story without linking Gawker, instead linking the Daily Mail talking about Gawker's latest calculated attention-seeking outrage.
Which is, as Instapundit says, the right way to do it.
The list of people who are quite certain they are worthy of your attention grows daily.
For God's sake, Gawker isn't even original about it. They just do the same damn thing someone did last week, and try to dress it up as novel.
I have an idea: Sites that do this, that do nothing but Search Engine Optimization sort of crap, should just implement a fully automated system, no human thinking involved. Why be dishonest about things? Just straight up take human thought officially out of the process. At least then we'll have a computer to blame, and we'll be spared of having to feel embarrassed for a human.

You know, someone said 'Hey, why don't we publish a list of names and addresses of people on welfare?' Isn't that just as much of a public record?
I've kinda come around to thinking that would be a pretty good idea after all. Include the WiC program, Food stamps, and all other direct government assistance. Especially higher education assistance and grants.
The justification would be that it would enlist the general public to help police the rampant fraud in the programs. In my own case, after I bought my current house, I got several denial letters addressed to the prior occupants turning down assistance. They were certainly not poor, yet they still applied for handout programs. (I also got periodic mailings from overseas jewlers and custom tailors.)
Someone on 'The Hill' was yacking that gun owners 'voluntarily' gave their personal info to the government, so that meant they could do whatever they wanted with it. Wouldn't that 'logic' hold true for people 'voluntarily' signing up for handouts?
If taxpayers could identify who in their neighborhood was getting handouts that obviously didn't need it (racetrack and stripclub ATMs anyone?) perhaps we could get a handle on the out of control entitlement spending. The Left is always going on about de-stigmatizing assistance, what better way to do that than to identify all the people who've fallen on hard times and need some help?

[pedantry]You cannot blaspheme a religion. Blasphemy is the claim to be God (or the object of some specific religion. I suppose some dude claiming to be Thor or Odin would also, technically, be blaspheming), or the denigration of God (or object of religion). The religion itself, however, cannot be blasphemed[/pedantry]

BackwardsBoy, EXACTLY. It's what we need to do and keep doing, Alinsky the hell out of them. Even if they don't get the message themselves, hopefully someone else will point out the blatant hypocrisy.
Either the idea is wrong, or it is not. We need to nip this whole "everything we opposed under Bush is a-okay under SCOAMF" thing as quickly as possible. Letting it go for four years was a mistake. The Repubs (or somebody) needs to get out there and point out every contradiction, every blatant lie, and every self-serving "evolution" of Obama and the Leftists. Punch back twice as hard, and after a few bloody noses, they should slink back into their slimy lairs. We've left them alone too long, and its emboldened them.
Let's start with Gore. How fucking dare he ever open his mouth about Climate Change again, since he was happy to take oil money for his TV channel. And ... with that $100 million payoff, isn't he richer than eeevil Mitt Romney? I expect to hear the media tearing into him any time now ...
What? They won't? Then let's get it all out there, day in, day out. Let's expose the Leftists for what they are; opportunistic scum who, if not for Double Standards, would have none at all.

There is a release from State to the AP with a time stamp.
What this tells me is that they had the story ready to go, leading back to the "fake kidnapping gone wrong" theory.
Connected to this is the news that Morsi is going to ask for the release of the Blind Sheikh (which it is possible the kidnapping was going to provide cover for).

The MFM is kicking a hornets nest and needs to get strung. I suggest cancelling subscriptions and widely publicized boycotts.

The one I saw looked like a dad and his kid.
I'm going to Michigan this summer, to see the in-laws (yay). I totally plan on doing that.

Maybe the new universe will do away with that thrice-damned Prime Directive that made me want to lock certain captains in the shuttlebay and depressurize said shuttlebay. I'm lookin' at you, John-Luck Pickard.
Janeway too, honestly. -.- Only good captains were Sisko and Kirk.

You were expecting Saavik in a bathrobe? That was Star Trek II:TWOK which now has never happened because of JJ Abrams.
Oh, lord. Vic yesterday was talking about the boner Ann-Margret gave him during Viva Las Vegas. I got one watching Kirstie Alley in that Starfleet uniform. Hoo boy. Hawt. Which of course, reminds me of ST6, when Kim Cattrall posed on the Enterprise bridge for some nude shots - in full Vulcan makeup - but the director had all the negatives destroyed before they could go public.

Kinley Ardal. Kirk saw the Prime Directive more as a suggestion. ISS Kirk, would phaser anyone for even thinking of inventing the concept.

I could be wrong, Anna, but I think it was because Valeris was supposed to be half Vulcan - half Romulan.
I always liked McCoy's comeback as Christopher Plummer was chanting, "I am constant as the Northern Star. . ."
"I'd pay good money if he'd just shut up!"

Plummer loved the role of Change and ate the scenery as well as Shatner. And McCoy and Spock invented the heat seeking photon torpedo.

I think you're right, OSP. You've lived with the characters for so long that you know what they'll do in any given situation, but remember, the plot that you have them fitting into is, while familiar to you, an unknown to your readers. You know the story. They don't.
