115 Speaking of the Bears game last night... Why haven't the talking heads from SNF been "indefinitely suspended" yet? The condescending way they were talking about Michael Vick was undeniably racist. Heck, their first comment was, "I've never seen someone hand off the ball so well." Obviously a sarcastic comment referencing the racial stereotype that Blacks just aren't that good at QB. Rush got fired for less.

131 The start of the death of America.  It allows the politicians to spend whatever they want without consequence:

The United States gave birth to an abomination on December 23, 1913. It was conceived by a group of men right out of RosemaryÂ’s Baby and consummated in a secret gathering place known as Jekyll Island. Some of the richest and most powerful men in America would go on to be its Godfathers. They nurtured this demon spawn and played wet nurse as it was sold to the public as the new panacea that would free us from the evils of the business cycle. The abomination they created is none other than the Federal Reserve.

133 While I'd believe it - isn't that something you can delegate with a power of attorney? As simple possibly as writing a note and signing it? FIRST: I am not a lawyer. That said: Yes, in theory. Some problems with that- 1: POA is not something you want the President of the United States giving out to ANYONE. POA is, effectively, saying "I'm giving this person the legal ability to act as Me." Now, you can put limits on it, and there are various curliques and such, but I doubt they would have gone to that much trouble. 2: NO it is not "as simple...as writing a note and signing it. POA is a legal document which must be filed with the courts. You keep a copy- but if you have a "copy" but the courts don't, your "copy" isn't valid. I think (but I'm not sure) it also must be notarized. The likelihood that they had POA signed and filed so that some "staff" at the WH could sign him up for an insurance plan is so minuscule that it basically doesn't bear consideration.

I know it's wiki, but it does have links elsewhere.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_of_attorney

Have used a POA a few times, and it was not complicated.

Limiting a POA should be as easy as "only for this specific scenario and duration" tagged on at the end.   The "toughest" part is meeting the minimum legal requirements for the a given jurisdiction, which ranges from a single signature to a witnesses/notary public; which I suspect a President ought to have easy access to - and which I think only matters if the relationship is challenged in court.

In the case of the POA not being properly granted, any problems should be as easy to fix as Obama calling in and testifying, "Yeah, I meant for him to do that, consider it valid".

But IANAL, so maybe the legal 'rons can weigh in.

But I've never made it before. Finding lots of recipes on the web, of course. I'm seeking one that will involve braising followed by a dry-heat step to produce some crispiness/carmelization of the skin. Quite a few of the recipes - but not all of them - call for slow braise, followed by refrigeration (often overnight) while the pork belly is pressed flat with weight. Then finishing off however. Just curious if anyone has experience cooking fresh pork belly and, if so, is the weighting step important? necessary? desirable? Muchos gracias!

176 Some sad news: RIP FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cpl. Rudy Hernandez, who fought in the Korean War and was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1952, has died at Womack Army Medical Center. He was 82. An official at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville said he was notified by the family of Hernandez’s death on Saturday. The Fayetteville Observer reports he was diagnosed recently with cancer and several other ailments. His last public appearance was in the Fayetteville Veterans Day parade. Hernandez was considered a fixture at veterans events around the city. Hernandez earned the Medal of Honor after he repelled an enemy attack with only a grenade and a rifle with a fixed bayonet. In August, Fort Bragg’s Warrior Transition Battalion Complex was re-dedicated in his name. Funeral arrangements are not complete.

188 Pointless bitching and moaning:

I posted a couple of weeks ago about a rape trial scheduled for last week in which my 17 year old victim was no where to be found.  I talked it over with my boss and we concluded this guy was too dangerous to just give up on prosecuting him.  I got a continuance despite speedy trial based upon an exception for unavailable evidence and an arrest warrant was issued for the girl for failure to honor her subpoena.  (I couldn't have gotten a continuance otherwise.) So she was arrested on Saturday. I just did a detention hearing in which the court ordered her held without bail until the new trail date in late March. That's right, I just put my victim in jail over Christmas while her rapist is running around free.

I'll go she her in the jail in a day or two. I'm sure she is wanting to see my shining face. I always liked her. She just got a raw deal in life.

Heh.
Mr. DeVille and I have had some debates about this very subject. I think she has good features and, with better make-up, could be a knockout. He thinks the perpetual scowl is such a negative that nothing would help.Posted by: Margarita DeVille at December 23, 2013 05:39 PM (dfYL9)

Anybody else think she looks like Holder in drag? I don't know what it is about the picture of her on Drudge today; must be the facial expression.

192 I have the local news on and the story was about hunger. "1 in 5 people have trouble putting food on the table". Translated by me 1 in 5 believe it is someone else's responsibility to put food on their table.

I know there is real suffering out there even in the US but 1 in 5?

193 I posted a couple of weeks ago about a rape trial scheduled for last week in which my 17 year old victim was no where to be found. I Okay, you might want to re-think referring to her as 'your victim'.

194 Merry Christmas, Ace. Thank you for the laugh! I am off to a holiday party with my Democrat Outlaw relatives. It's some restaurant that serves trendy food. Hamburgers are not on the menu. We'll stop at McDonalds after.

197 192:  Yeah when they give stats like that I'm like "possibly 1 in 5, needs the SNAP program or a little help from a food bank because they have no clue how to eat cheaply but actually goes hungry, there cannot possibly be THAT many monsters trading the kid's food stamps for drugs and booze"

It was about how Trotsky wouldn't leave the country without his family which were being held as hostages causing "Mr. Stalin to face a conundrum."

206 Re "1 in 5 people have trouble putting food on the table..." Remember Dan Rather's famous intonation a decade or so back: "Good evening. 1 in 8 children in the US are hungry tonight...." Based on a "study" (more like a push poll) in which respondents were, in substance, asked whether, at any point in the past year, they had foregone any food purchases due to financial contraints. So, not buying everything or as much of everything as you want, at some point, is conflated to "hunger" and "any time in the past year" is conflated to "every night, and tonight" I have no doubt that some have trouble putting food on the table. But what degree of trouble exactly are they talking about? How often? Now if you have to choose between the heart medication or the Premium Friskies, that's an issue.

207 I am beyond skeptical of the hunger numbers. I become even more skeptical when I hear the Public Service Announcements for hunger and the obesity epidemic being piggy backed. And then there's just the phenomenon of being at Wal-Mart and other stores and seeing the "lower" classes in all their stoutness. They may not be eating all the arugula they want, but they are not going hungry. I was told as I child that if you went hungry in this country if it was your own fault, and I think that is true. Heartless, I know, but just my own observations. Children who are going hungry are going hungry because of the adults around them.
