I Lied
— Ace

Apparently I'm not dropping this Friedersdorf thing.

If he's claiming that what separates the liberal media from Us the Unwashed is their purported hatred of falsehoods, then I'm going to have to insist he correct a deliberate false quote.

Well yes, if you're willing to change someone's quote from Something True He Said to Something False He Didn't Say, it's pretty easy to discover "errors." You have to get the reason for my bringing in Sullivan-- Conor was an underblogger for Sullivan for a time, and apparently they're allies if not fast friends. So I kept bringing up Sullivan -- if Conor's going to play gotcha with Michelle Malkin's barely-wrong statements, why not with Sullivan's extremely-wrong ones?

106 Ace-- I had (now passed) a friend who was one of the Alamo Rangers. Pretty elite group, and not one in 10,000 will know who they were. He spent a good bit of time operating behind Jap lines on Luzon. I discussed with him the small arms which they carried. Specifically, I was curious if they used M1 Carbines. "No", he replied, "Only .45's and Garands. We didn't want to just wound anyone, and we did NOT take prisoners."- Henry 'Snake' Baker, a great American

At any rate.., take no prisoners.

117 re 9/11 unimpressed

On that fateful day I was at work and pretty much everyone was shell shocked and our boss at the regional office where I was working said everyone go home, not much work is going to get done today. Cool.

Next day I get back to work, I see tens of emails from the day before (9/11) from others in the company. There was a significant group of people who just went about their daily business as if nothing else was going on in the world. At the time I couldn't understand how people could just ignore what had happened and write emails about a missing spreadsheet or report or some such bullshit. As I got older and started understanding the left, this made perfect sense to me. Where was my company HQed? Downtown San Francisco.

135 Are the days of political neutrality among corporations over?

It's a going theory among a certain brand of cynic that certain industries we could all readily name are buying their way out of some potentially highly destructive EEOC/DOJ/etc action re: their strenuously cultivated lack of Diversity™ with really intense obedience to the regime.

The regime-regime, not just the current nominal administration of it. But them too.

The theory is uncontravened by any known facts.

That doesn't mean it's true. The causality in it could be wrong, for example, or the appearance of collusion could be "epiphenomenal," like the shapes you can trace around a school of fish.

But it's like true, in that regarding it as true makes some apparently self-destructive behavior seem rational.

I mean, what conditions will produce that "four more years?" Not many. And it was produced.

A good background essay on Conor Friedersdorf "The Early Days" over at Washington Monthly. Turns out CF is yet another gift to conservatism from the Bush II administration:

Friedersdorf's [essay] "Electric Kool-Aid Conservatism" came to the attention of David Kuo, President BushÂ’s former point man for faith-based initiatives, who had left the administration unhappily and went on to write Tempting Faith, the most personal of the dissenting White House memoirs of the Bush years.

Kuo was setting up a website to "attract a younger generation of conservative writers" and hired CF and thus a star was born.

There is, however, a long history of people - especially writers - working from a favorite coffee shop or cafe rather than an office. Today we tend to associate the phenomenon with the Paris of Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, or the coffeehouses of Vienna at the turn of the 20th Century. The poet Peter Altenberg was even known to have mail delivered to his favorite hangout. [...] I am not alone. ---F. Scott Frederdorfer

193 I contemplated the natural beauty just outside the window of The Manhole, an upscale "café" in the Castro district. A wrapper whirled inside the capricious embrace of a dust devil in the parking lot. A young boy stepped into a windowless panel van, his childlike curiosity at the offered candy taking back through memory's sepia-toned alleys, as the sky outside faded from shale to umber. Turning back to my computer as I took a leisurely sip of penis, I noticed something in one of the browser windows I had open. No, not Andrew's profile on HIVlounge, "Where the H is for HOTT." Something dark. Something evil. It was Ace.

Posted by: Konnor Friedeersderp at March 22, 2013 01:18 PM (oihrP)

194 Ace, if I may - you're going about this mostly wrong. I say this as the guy who got Glenn(s) Greenwald to go Multi-Sockpuppet in defense of Glenn's resume. As long as it's You vs. Conor he'll just rope-a-dope and hope that you eventually tire and go away. (Which, inevitably you will do.) So, come at Conor obliquely - compare his style to Malkin's pointing out the similarities of their columns, the issues - and engage in a rational conversation with other people about this AS IF Conor wasn't present. He'll be sure to listen - and, at some point, he'll comment or protest or some such and, in the process, come off his perch. At which point you can knee-cap him in an Oh-By-The-Way manner. Or, you can get WuzzaDem to do a funny sequence of pictures involving a Conor Friesdorf graphic and a donkey. Your choice.

Watch "hate crime" be applied against anyone who mentions homosexuality, ethnicity, regardless of how polite the term "is". 4. Good films don't require filthy language to be good. So utilize mutual respect in scripts across the board, for conservatives who are not only labeled by the activist homosexual community and Hollywood as "tea baggers" but are targeted by Obama's administration as "terrorists" for DHS to prepare prosecutions.

I was working for Amex in AZ at the time. Multiple people I worked with had family in that area.

My boss had a friend injured from falling debris after she got out of the tower. A second friend who left the building with her was killed in a car accident a week later while going to visit her in the hospital.

As part of my job, I called one of the firestations a couple days after 9/11. They didn't know where the guy I was calling for was...or his next in line...or the guy after him... or much of anyone else. The lady at the end of the line started crying. It was all I could do not to join her.

To mistake to whom Ace refers with the pronoun "his" is relatively easy, if you don't read the whole sequence. If you don't read well. If you're unthinking. If you're unclear why Ace put @conor64 in there. If you're emotionally-driven instead of actually using the intellect for its intended purpose. I think it was more a case of...shared vulnerability.

If you've ever been on an airline flight, or spent time in the upper floors of a tall building...then the 9/11 attacks made you realize, "That could be me".

Or..."That could be __(family member's name)__."

Most all of us felt a new feeling of vulnerability on 9/11.

I think that was the basis of it, moreso that a "need to experience other people's tragedies".

271 I think it was more a case of...shared vulnerability.

If you've ever been on an airline flight, or spent time in the upper floors of a tall building...then the 9/11 attacks made you realize, "That could be me".
Or..."That could be __(family member's name)__."

You have just defined empathy.

273 Holy Thursday?! Lent ain't over until Easter Sunday. You can have a ceremonial rolling back of the liquor cabinet door. So glad Baptists don't do Lent. I'd shit myself if I had to give up scotch.

280 I recently viewed Life Of Pi in the home theatre my father's had built at his winery and it struck me that if Pi had landed on US shores he would have been raped then burned at the stake by conservatives.

Laphroaig is fine, if a bit unrefined (sniff).  If you're into the peat, try Talisker.

287 I think I figured out empathy in about the fifth grade reading a description of a character whose father was taken in by a preacher but who continued to crawl out on the roof every night and find his way to a local bar and drink himself into a stupor, only to be gathered up by the same preacher and once again deposited into the preachers home the next night. I saw limits to empathy. Even as a 10 year old boy, reading Mark Twain.
