Immigration Bill Has More Fake "Fence" Crap In It
— Ace

The US government does not want a border fence built; the political class does not want a border fence built; the media class, virtually indistinguishable from the political class, does not want a border fence built.

On the other hand, 75% of the public does want a border fence built.

Obviously, the political/media class wins, as usual.

Even if a law required building a fence -- set specific requirements of how many feet of fencing must be constructed per month -- the government would not build it. They would spend endless hours pretending to "plan" the fence or study it for environmental impacts.

So that's what they'd do if the law says that a fence has to be built.

What will they do if the law doesn't even require a fence, but only the development of a "Fencing Strategy"?

Bear in mind, "no fence at all" is a perfectly allowable option in the range of possible "Fencing strategies" one might develop.

The whole thing is a con to deliver amnesty but convince people it's not amnesty.

And as many have said, the public would be willing to entertain the possibility of a mass-amnesty contingent on real border enforcement, including a fence.

But the amnestias simply refuse that. They are committed to the same position they've always held, Amnesty Forever and Amnesty Only.

6 well I don't understand how a border fence would work anyway. Both borders (north and south) are pretty darn long and go across some rough terrain and have other inconveninces that would make fencing it off really expensive and probably really difficult to accomplish.

34 Ace - one aspect no one seems to be addressing and that the "fence" has absolutely nothing to do with.

40% of illegal immigrants in this country are visa overstays.  They flew in.  Obama simply doesn't bother to look them up and tell them to go home.

All of those visa overstays will be included in any amnesty bill.

Educated people who came here on H-1B visas.  Legal for work on day one!
Educated relatives of legal green card holders and citizens.  Legal for work on day one!
Tons from Pakistan, India, the Philippines, China.

And a lot of these are educated people who cannot legally work.  Except after day one of amnesty, that is..

But, and this is just something I've noticed with the partial fence that is supposed to fence off the retention pond near my house, the thing is if a fence only goes for a certain distance, people tend to just walk around it. This fight against amnesty is well intentioned but futile.  The fence will never be built.  Within a decade or so we will have had defacto amnesty. (Gun control in all but name, too.)  Wanna know why?  Because the liberal-minded class NEVER QUITS.  They are like a swarm of locusts.  No apparent external master control but each insect knows how to act within its own little sphere of influence.  The result is the same every time - the landscape stripped bare.

The nanny-staters are masters of the incremental approach to achieving ever more power over others.  Example - If I try and split a massive slab of oak into firewood I can use my maul all day whacking at the center point and all I achieve is exhaustion.  But if I use a light maul around the edges and gradually chip away at the massive oak within an hour or so the oak slab is gone.

Fighting these people is like fighting the locusts.  You might kill a few thousand but it does not stop the swarm.  Given the size of the liberal swarm I do not see how we can effectively fight it.  (No, you cannot kill them.)

Maybe you guys have some ideas.

--------------------------------

You block the easiest routes, and put impediments in place on the more difficult ones.  At the very least, all of the farmers and ranchers living along the border who currently get lots and lots of nocturnal foot traffic (and worse) across their property will be appreciative.  But more importantly, the fact that certain areas have fences will funnel the traffic to areas that can't have fences for whatever reason.  And you can focus your manpower on those areas.  A handful of drones, for instance, would probably be able to interdict the open areas without too much difficulty once you blocked off the easier routes.

You do that by ignoring the illegal immigrant argument and start emphasizing the potential for terrorists to infiltrate the country and the drugs and drug wars that are spilling over the border.   You pound that into the news daily.

I have a design. When the immigrant drops his load of marijuana, it causes a ball to roll down a trough, triggering a bucket of water to spill, filling a tall tube which causes a spring-loaded device to fire a metal slug, activating a swinging knife that cuts a rope attached to a giant spring loaded hammer, smashing the intruder.  It's totally green and will require a grant of $100 billion from the Department of Energy to start work on a prototype.

171 WHITE HOUSE COMMENDS JASON COLLINS ON COMING OUT AP 4/29/2013 5:00:29 PM (AP) White House commends Jason Collins on coming out WASHINGTON The White House is commending NBA veteran Jason Collins for becoming the first active male player in the four major American professional sports to come out as gay. White House spokesman Jay Carney called that decision courageous and says the White House supports Collins. He says he hopes the 34-year-old center's team will also offer support. Carney says the White House views Collins' decision as another example of progress and evolution in the U.S. as Americans grow more accepting of gay rights and same-sex marriage. Last year, during his re-election campaign, Obama announced his support for gay marriage. What a crock. Hey White House, fuck that and pay attention to the economy and Foreign Policy. Ah actually i take that back- go play golf and worry about gay rights instead and leave the rest for the Republican COngress.

172 Alternative idea:

Giant towers with high-powered telescopic cameras.  So high that these cameras can view and scan a 10 mile area of the border.  Eventually computer image analysis should be able to automatically pick out infrared signatures and distinguish animal from person.  When they get a hit, they zoom in on the group passing through and send out directions for a border patrol agent to interject intercept.

176 Just so I have this straight. For years and years and years, the politicians and federal govt have hemmed, hawed, and flat out lied about building "the fence(tm)". As a result, 30 million illegals have entered our country because they have refused to build the fence they said they would build. At which point...CRISIS!! And the only solution (which happens to be what they've secretly wanted all along) is to grant these millions upon millions of illegals citizenship. I think I've got it now. The We Must Do Something Crowd wants it to appear as if these people are wandering the desert with nowhere to go. They DO have their own country. If only they put half as much effort into making theirs wonderful as they do wanting to suck the lifeblood out of mine...

184 My personal opinion is that we are well past the point where either the system or those currently running it have a true right to claim allegiance and loyalty; to claim legitimacy, because it and they simply will not deal honestly. Bait and switch, bait and switch, dissemble, distract, demonize, bait and switch. That is all it ever is anymore. Their imperial wills simply will not be thwarted. Since the system is increasingly authoritarian, I expect no change in course, nor, absent resort to arms of some sort, any recourse. But, for the record, I simply do not believe in this system or those running it, or the cultural milieu behind it and them, and I will not sacrifice for it except as I am compelled to. Which though, in today's America, is a bit.

I'd love to see job/sponsor requirements, english fluency requirements, no welfare, no retiree immigration (so they don't come for social security) no chain immigration, a fence, instant deportations for those caught at the border, and billing for medical services (just because we have to accept them doesn't mean they don't have to pay), reduction/elimination of student visas (especially from the middle east) and all as separate bills. Let the Senate kill immigration reform.

The first sign of the train wreck's imminence: when liberal organs (?) such as the LA Times and SF Chronicle start running articles about CA state retirees collecting huge pensions while living in other states. That's when you'll know that those retirees are being teed up for a good reamout.

Initially I'd have gone with puppet. Endearing, naive, hopeful puppet. With his subsequent doubling down after holes and loopholes were found by critics - AND the concomitant lying - there's no way he's not a puppeteer. The fact that he's the face of it all makes him Lead Puppeteer.

201 A whole mess of seemingly entangled issues. They aren't. A fence is mandatory. Build it now, or start firing those in the way of building it now. This is not a GOP issue, this is something we as a country should be doing. Those whom oppose it are simply idiots. Doesn't matter their party affiliation. The next issue is a red-meat socon issue, which by its very definition, is something we should run away from, as fast, and as hard as we possibly can. Its a failure of an issue. Its divisive. Its alienating. Its negative. It shrinks our possible base. I am talking about amnesty. I am sick and tired of hearing people screaming about amnesty. I really, truly, don't give a shit, and most of the country doesn't either. They are here, let em pay taxes. They are here, let em use our services (after paying taxes). Because nothing will drive the socialist agenda into the fucking dirt faster than a Cloward–Piven strategy aimed directly at the heart of the matter. That is, they are the anvil against which Obamacare will be hammered by a massive influx of consumers without much/any in the way of new contributions. Nothing says bankruptcy faster than driving up the costs so far above projections, that the regime in power will face several impossible scenarios, with the only possible avenue being to turn off Obamacare for the good of the country. Create a real guest worker system, give them documentation, give them access to be here provided they have a job or can show that they are supported by someone with a job, and listed on tax forms to that effect. Don't enable them to go on welfare, they have to leave if they can't afford to be here. Be completely reasonable, and compassionate about them. Don't assume that Latinos and Latinas are going to vote for the other team. My inlaws are Latino, and they vote in the majority for non-democratic candidates. Only a few vote for dems. Contrast this with my jewish and black relatives and inlaws, whom by and large, vote for the regime in power, despite the regime in power actively working against their individual and combined interests. Assume my fellow tribesmen and women are basically stupid, that 60% of us are too brain dead to comprehend how bad the democrats are. But most importantly, don't make assumptions about that which you don't know. I see people who risk it all to come and work here as being my fiscal fellow travelers. They understand that risk and reward are correlated, that there is value for hard work, and that no one should be able to take their hard work and redistribute it. Those frothing at the mouth over "amnesty" completely miss this reality. They don't get it. The dems don't either, and they mistakenly assume that Latinos are by and large going to vote for them, and they should have low expectations in life so they won't rock the boat. The racism of low expectations. Let us not sink to the dems level. Treat these people with compassion, with respect, give them a legal basis for remaining, and toss the fucking punitive language and measures. If you don't get why this such language and measures are wrong, you might be a socon. Try to drop that, and come back into the growing tent.

212 Even though a complete fence will never be built, there's more they should doing. Texas is more than half the border, the feds allocate much less than half for Texas, and Tank Napolitano keeps bragging about how crime is down in border states. This is true only if you look at FBI index crimes: murder, robbery, rape, assault etc which have been falling in the US for decades. If you look at other crimes like ID fraud, drug smuggling, human trafficking (including little girls for sex trade) and other organized crime, those are up. Prison gangs are working with the cartels. Every year the bodies of hundreds of dead illegals are found on Texas ranches. We need more people, drones, some fencing, stuff like that. Its hard to build solid fencing in Texas because the fence has be built well north of the river, but you can keep on building sections as they have been. I do have to say though it's somewhat comical to see how short some of the existing sections are. I was looking at the Del Rio section a few weeks ago. Right by the official crossing the fence looks like the one used to confine dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. After a few hundred yards it peters down to a regular livestock fence that an old bag like me could step over.

Or does he believe the big lie that Hispanics are natural conservatives and therefore 20 million new citizens and unlimited new ones will give the movement a huge voting block? 224 The Republican Party is not in the business of winning now, after Obama's second win. The Republican Party is about war against the right, and about suits consolidating themselves in power so that they can continue to rake in the graft. Giving the Democrats a permanent majority is fine, as they see it. Respectable Republicans just want money in their own pockets. Anything that "important donors" want, they can probably have for a price. If someone told Rubio, "do this, and there'll be big money in it for you," that's all it would take. Respectable Republicans don't think they'll be judged by history. Mass immigration plus forced integration means genocide for the population being flooded and forced to assimilate. The mass of white people, lower-class working stiffs and the like, are going away, due to policies that are erasing them. They won't be judging anybody. Mass immigration is importing a new nation. Respectable Republicans like Rubio think that that nation will judge them favorably.
