— rdbrewer He is famous for the worst video resume ever created. (Embedded below the fold.) UBS Financial Services leaked it on the internet. There were many parodies, and he was relentlessly mocked. He deserved it, I guess, but I feel guilty for having mocked him myself. People like that are trying to compensate for terribly low self-esteem. Apparently it was a heart attack from a drug overdose.
Even before he arrived as a freshman at Yale, Vayner had become known for exaggerating his own feats. At a 2002 event in New Haven for high-school seniors who have been admitted to Yale, Vayner told current students all about his abilities and specialised skills.
He told Jordan Bassm a freshman student at the Ivy League college that he had taught tennis to Jerry Seinfeld and Harrison Ford and that the Dalai Lama had apparently written his college recommendation.
'He talked for, like, six hours straight the first night,' said Bass to the New Yorker magazine after they investigated Vayner in 2006 following his notorious video job application.
'He had a lot of affiliations with élite institutions. He was an action star, an espionage expert, and a professional athlete. He would be on the C.I.A. firing range one day and, the next, at a martial-arts competition that took place in this secret system of tunnels underneath Woodstock, New York.
'Then he was at a skiing competition in Switzerland. He told us the Russian Mafia had him forging passports.'
. . .
Attending Yale despite the attention of the article, Vayner arrived with a CV that now boasted he had begun modelling for the price of $200 an hour, written a book about the Holocaust and founded a charity for troubled children.
He also claimed to have won two tennis matches against Pete Sampras, retired from professional martial arts and mastered the art of 'bone setting'.
According to the article, a friend on Facebook was concerned about his health the night before he died, "Do not, anyone, sell this idiot ANY pills!"

He talked non-stop about his life and the rest of us could only try and interupt this loon. He no longer works here.

Well you can't get into a "good college" on the strength of academic performance anymore; if you don't have a preferred skin color/last name/sexual fetish, you have to have a 30-page CV of non-school (progg-friendly) accomplishments. In between becoming a chess grandmaster and washing the sores of homeless lepers, you have to learn Mandarin and save the transgendered delta smelt.

As you may have guessed, this is my absolute favorite graduation speech. http://scoamf.us/6h
It was delivered in May last year, in a town where the MEDIAN income is $125K and the MEAN home value is $900K - and I went to school with a boatload of people from that town.

I have to confess it absolutely kills me when my 15-year-old jakegirl gets all excited about "getting XX likes" on a FB photo, as if it's some sort of achievement. When she got straight As, I was proud, and told her so. When she made the golf team, I was proud, and told her so.
But yet, teenagers use social media as a primary metric. It saddens me. And even though I enjoy FB once in a while, mostly as a way to taunt my lib friends, I sorta wish it didn't exist.

DON
CHERRY, Canadian Hockey Commentator for CBC Television, was asked on a
local live radio talk show, what he thought about the allegations of
torture of suspected terrorists. His reply prompted his ejection from
the studio, but to thunderous applause from the audience.
HIS STATEMENT:
"If hooking up one rag head terrorist prisoner's

camel shagger will save just one Canadian or American life, then I have
only three things to say:
'Red is positive, black is negative, and make sure his nuts are wet."

There are times I'm glad I was a misfit, but still well liked to a degree by many. The thing is I knew to value true friends and learned the difference between acquaintenceship and friendship. One of the narcissisms I grant myself from my failed foray into the education world is the "right" to look at classes and consider my eye "semi-stage one trained" on deciphering the group dynamics oof a class.
These poor kids are 24-30 islands, I just don't see the group dynamic that even some of my adversaries in the student body felt for their peers to "learn."
I'll never forget that a kid that broke my nose twice also helped me master base geometry as I aided him in understanding the differences between the Articles of Confederation and Constitution.
and Sean that speaker made my point far more eloquently than I am doing meandering here.

Maybe to a degree, the good news is I believe in you younger adults. Hunger is a great motivator and if you have moral fiber which I know a lot of you do from working with and in some cases supervising you guys you'll figure it out when the bottom falls out. Hunger, fear, and desire are a holy trinity for hard work and a proper wariness of authority when coupled with good morals.
You'll either be fine or you won't and in truth that is every generation's battle.

I've known a few guys who embellished and exaggerated and outright lied. Thing is, most of their lies were manifestly transparent, and I found myself feeling sorry for them, just as I feel sorry for Vayner.
Imagine living your life trying to remember every lie you've told and to whom you've told them so that you won't be caught out and exposed. The slightest misstep and off you go, into the abyss. Such a life is pitiable and sad.

Obviously their court decision against Samsung did not make any difference.
Samsung is kicking their ass in the world phone business.

You ever read my bitter joke I used to tell about my son's PC anxiety he is developing?
Our current generation of boys aged say 6 to 18 are either gonna fold like cheap lawn furniture or be the craziest bastards on Earth and the stuff of legend if we ever point them at an enemy and say "you can do whatever you want he is the bad guy I have been warning you of."
That thought used to make me laugh, because I figured the guy getting buzzsawed would be Jihadi Jim....
The problem is I think the NEA is hoping it is us.

I have a lot of love for the so called "greatest generation". But they left us with a fundamental failing that has plagued society for decades, their kids, which is every generation's greatest responsibility.

It would have been dumb back when society tried to be civil.
Now it is probably a resume enhancer not a ding for their side only.
You have to figure the Obamabots are gonna start hiring only Obamabots when able for "magical recovery."
We need to consider adopting minority population survival techniques.

Basically, people use it to find other people and where they work. I think it's supposed to help with job searches.

Well the release was probably an unintentional leak. But as for it doing him good or ill, when confronted by a public humiliation it would have been the only thing, if anything could, reach him and get him to grapple with his real self. The fact that it did not is QED in my mind that he was beyond reach, and unless his talents someday measured up to his image of them, he would be doomed to fighting reality and losing to it.

He had (supposedly) a degree in Philosophy from Yale.
He could easily tell the difference between a $10 bottle of wine and a $100 bottle. Run of the mill audio equipment was all crap unless he owned it.
He could have sat for the bar exam without going to law school.
He called himself a marketing guru. He bs'd his way into a Marketing Director job at another company (at my company, his job was to make icon buttons for the software and make our brochures) and he basically told everyone in the office that we were slugs but if we tried hard enough we could be like him someday. They fired him after 2 months.
The idiot I worked for hired him back and made him my boss because he had gained so much experience and contacts in those 2 months (according to the Marketing Guru).
It was the most soul crushing, life draining, miserable time in my career.

LinkedIn is a career connections deal. Kind of like FB but for staying in touch with people you've worked with/for/customers/etc. I've found it pretty helpful for finding new opportunities when switching jobs, and for finding people I know who work at prospective employers either to get me an in or to give me an honest ground floor view of what it's like to be an employee there.
Like I said, first time I've ever seen anything remotely political on there, and hopefully it's the only time.
I did unconnect from that dingbat though. Was just a person I know in my department at a previous job.

That is the regional manager of a year ago at the company I work for....
guy was from Turkey and "I can turn any station into a 30,000 a week profit center!"
Oh, okay well why don't YOU manage the operation and get us there?
The guy did not even understand the concept of demographics, market %, and disposable income and was convinced that the client base will buy the product even if their liquid income is gone.
Price-points, competition between equivalent vendors?
"never heard of 'em"
He made it two of the three years I've been in the area including my 9 months off I am just ending.

The Greatest Generation? How about the survivors of The War Between the States. Especially Southern men. Their entire economy was destroyed, their land was occupied and they had no capital to rebuild with. Southerns had invested over a trillion dollars in the slave market. That all disappeared, while the North kept their factories and immigrant wage slaves humming.
It took fifty years for the South to begin to rebuild. All the rail road lines were destroyed, all the factories were destroyed and much of their homes were burned to the ground.
I would say those guys were a pretty "Great Generation" just to have survived, both Black and White.

There's nothing worse than watching someone you know is an absolute fraud succeed because he's got the bosses conned. The biggest sale I ever made (I made a huge sale to Goldman-Sachs) and that no talent SOB lying POS told everyone he closed it (implying I needed his help)-He wasn't in the room and had no idea that I was even talking to them. soul. crushed.

It is a symptom of a bad organization when "good people leave."
If/when the economy recovers apply the lessons and move on.
