Interesting Observation
— Ace

From Breitbart's Joel Pollack.

Obama and his supporters refuse to be judged on normal criteria, such as the president's actual record in office. Though he is quick to claim credit on the rare occasion--such as the bin Laden raid--when things go right, President Obama typically adopts a prophetic distance from the office he holds that insulates him from criticism and allows him to attack the very Washington he leads, the very political games he plays.

The heresy of Fox News is not just that it criticizes the Obama administration or that it provides a platform for conservative opinion, but that it rejects the attempt to place Obama beyond politics and accountability. It refuses, in other words, to endorse the idea that Obama inhabits a unique category, beyond the obvious (and, for most governing purposes, meaningless) historic fact that he is the nation's first black president.

From the article:

"Obama not only shares his party's belief in its moral superiority but also embodies it in his own person. His preference for the word "I" is but one symptom. In a recent, typical example, he told the media: "I've still got 60,000-plus troops in Afghanistan," as if those soldiers serve him personally and at his pleasure. The corollary: his critics must be motivated by personal hatred or bigotry, not any independent principles."

That's the Obama shtick.

You know, if one were contemplating going into politics strictly as a career choice, and with no innate philosophical principles whatever (i.e., a typical politician), becoming a Democrat is the only rational choice. It'll be easier to raise money (from all those wealthy donors in the shadows), the media will provide overwatch for you, and the shadowy powers that be will provide downfield blocking for you.

If you become a Republican, you'll get crapped on at every turn, misquoted, smeared (many times over things you never said, but that someone else attributed to you; e.g., Palin's Russia comment), everything you ever do will be spun to your detriment, any mistakes you make will be rehashed endlessly (Seamus the dog on the car's roof? 109 Mohamed was many things, but charlatan wasn't one of them. Claiming to be a prophet and miracle worker when you aren't (and finding adroit ways around having to offer any proof) makes you a charlatan. He was a successful charlatan, but he was a charlatan. The unlamented Televangelists of the 80s and 90s (who went en masse to jail) were all charlatans. They were not what they claimed to be. They were just very successful at being what they actually were- con men.

140 This calls into question the claims of prophets of all religions, something that I find to be a waste of time. Not so. I'm not going to get into the apologetic/theological debate (because: time), but there is good evidence (from non-NT sources) that Jesus did, indeed, perform miracles. There is none for Mohammed. The only miracles prescribed to him are from much, much later sources, and have zero independent corroboration. As for prophecy- We can point to OT and NT prophesy, prove (reasonably) that they really were made before the events in question, and then point to where the prophesy was fulfilled in a specific way. Again, the same cannot be said of Mohammed. I meant "charlatan" in a technical sense, not a defamatory one.

There's a lot of smart analysis packed into that short article.

Obama's original model was to create a cult following that, along with a reliably liberal majority in Congress, would do all the the heavy lifting of "fundamentally transforming the US" for him while he enjoyed his perch at the top of pop culture and politics.  His constant agitating and us/them rhetoric is designed to activate the cult and get them pounding on the media and their representatives to do whatever he wants.

The model has failed; the cult was strong enough to get him elected but is distinctly uninterested in policy, and his one big policy achievement lost him control of Congress in 2010.  He keeps trying to breathe life into the model through manufactured wedges like guns and immigration.  But it is really the model that has failed.  America is not - yet - a Third World country where masses of voters can be continually "organized" and whipped into a frenzy by a charismatic leader, and force legislatures to bend to his will.

152 Where? Josephus? Yes. There's another one, too, I think, but I can't recall it off the top of my head. Josephus is important, though, because he a) is (was?) a noted historical scholar in areas other than religion and b) was no friend to the Christians. So he never had to mention Jesus' miracles at all- yet he did, and in an affirmative (that is: agreeing that they happened) manner. So if he is to be believed in other things, then, logically, we should believe him (absent positive contrary evidence) in other things.

HeÂ’s the rare black host with national TV and radio platforms, one who sees his job as challenging Americans to examine their assumptions on such thorny issues as poverty, education, and racial and gender equalityÂ…. Smiley, 48, also doesnÂ’t shrink from the repercussions that occur when his opinions, delivered on radio and in interviews in his distinctively punchy cadence, strike a nerve. He has drawn the ire of conservatives and, because of his insistent criticism of President Barack ObamaÂ’s policies, that of some liberals and African-Americans. Smiley contends that members of the Obama administration, whom he didnÂ’t identify, have pressured sponsors to drop their support of his projects, including his anti-poverty initiatives. The White House had no comment, said a spokesman, Kevin Lewis. Smiley declined to identify the companies, saying he wasnÂ’t authorized to disclose their names. ------ Fuckers are pretty damn efficient when it comes to punishing their American enemies.

He is a professional victim, relying upon the malevolence of his perceived enemies to determine his next move.

To defeat him, one need only do what effective bloggers have done for years when faced with trolls: ignore them. Refuse him his martyrdom, and he will do what the Chicago Police Department has done for decades when dealing with a wanted, yet altogether untalented, undereducated and egocentric wanted fugitive: they'll eventually stick up the liquor store located less than a block from the local police district.

Let Obama hang himself, and he'll find himself right back where he belongs.

Maybe the base station (assuming multiline phone system) needs back-up.

Regardless, it's a reason to leave work and go home and open a bottle of good scotch, or in your case, a bottle of grape Nehi and a bottle of cinnamon-flavored bourbon.

185 Regarding disposal of 'hazardous' waste I heard a story of a man who couldn't get rid of a crap-load of tires that he had. Solution - rent a storage unit (6'x10' for about 65 bucks) for a month. Load the shit out of it with whatever you want to get rid of. Oops, forget to pay next month, and the month after. I guess it may screw with your credit score though.

186 Oh! So Rush is talking about O-care and taxes and that reminded me. Did you know that the Child Income Tax Credit thingamajig is now tied to income levels? I didn't. We got a letter not long ago, and a very pissed off wife called the IRS, informing us that I made too much money to fully qualify and our tax refund was being reduced by $1k. Plus side, my wife is awesome. "Ma'am, I'm here to help you. If you're going to be hostile then I'm ending this call." "Hostile? I'm not being hostile. I'm asking why the IRS is taking another $1k from us. If you want hostile, I can give you hostile."

188 Well you could take it up with the city fathers of Yathrib, the Jewish colony that opposed Mohammed, of course they were all killed or converted, and it's now called Medina

189 Need to hold them to the responsibility trade off: to accept credit for good things you have to take blame for the bad. If you don't take the blame we will not credit you either

This calls into question the claims of prophets of all religions, something that I find to be a waste of time. Whether Mo was a true prophet or simply a clever man who used religion as a tool is unimportant, especially since that description can be used for every prophet in history.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at May 28, 2013 01:07 PM (O6Tmi)

Notice that there's been a steep dropoff in the incidence of prophets. It's amazing how few people claim God is talking to them now.

In unrelated news, we now have lots of anti-psychotic drugs.

Just sayin'.

193 They can't judge Obama on his results.  If they did that, they'd imply that *all* black men & women can be held responsible for their results, which means they can't blame everything on someone else, which means they might have to actually put in some effort instead of sitting around bitching about racism.  Which is politically incorrect, so nobody says it out loud in public.

Of course, first of all, Obama's biracial, not black, and his non-white side is (by some accounts) mostly Arab, not black. Hence the middle name "Hussein".

I saw somebody report on the attitude of the media on O'Reilly. He said that they look upon him as if he were Nelson Mandela or Desmond Tutu. Sounds about right. The bottom line is that they worship at the alter of Diversity, it being one of their gods. Not the kind of diversity you get when you simply cease to be discriminatory, but rather the kind you get from quotas, which are their own brand of racist. Obama's their chocolate Messiah. You might just as well ask a Christian to criticize Christ, as ask these guys to say a word against Obama.

195 The president is being plagued by spontaneous self radicalization of government employees. As with Islamic radicals there is no response capable of foreseeing and or inhibiting radicalization. We/he are at the mercy of the biochemistry of these individuals.

It is just a coincidence that these incidents all seem to favor his world view.

Sarc off.

On MSNBC this weekend I saw the anchor and a guest(don't ask me who) bemoaning the treatment of veterans in the VA. Their take on the efforts of Hagel to fix the problem were insightful.

They said, with no self awareness at all, that it would take the president to make it happen. "Nothing will change without his input. Once he makes it known to his people that he wants something done-it will get done. He does not need to go there and tell people directly. They will feel the pressure from the WhiteHouse to get this done."

Exactly what happened with the IRS......

196 I remember noticing this especially during the 9/11 crisis in Cairo. Remember that deal about how the embassy had said something stupid, Romney called it stupid, Obama disowned it (as if the embassy was speaking for some OTHER United States government), and then said essentially the same thing himself, while the media invented some timeline that was required for Romney to defend the 1st Amendment and said he had violated it.

He isn't black.  He's the country's first mulatto president.

And as far as not holding him accountable. . .bear with me for a moment.

IÂ’ve got a recording of Sinatra, Martin and Davis at the Sands.  While Sam is trying to do impersonations of people singing All The Way, Dean and (especially) Frank keep needling him, including FrankÂ’s infamous “Smile, Sam, so everybody knows where you are.”

At one point, Sam says, “You wait until we get in there.  YouÂ’re gonna get yours!” and he follows it up later with “Keep it up, boys, ‘cause you ainÂ’t got too many rights left!”

He was jokingly serious, but the election of Obama, IMO, has nothing to do with “history.”  It has to do with white guilt, but especially with payback.  YouÂ’ve been on top too long, honky, and now youÂ’re gonna get yours.  How you like being the black manÂ’s bitch?”

I think that ties into the MFM lame critiques of Obama.  The white reporters feel guilty and the black ones want a brother to keep the white man down.  Just an off the cuff observation.  YMMV.

200 Pollack seems to forget that for most Americans the economy is the most important thing. On that Obama is looking a lot better that the clown who left, and who is blamed more than Obama. The Dow doubled, GM and the American Auto business was saved, unemployment is dropping and housing is looking stronger. That is how they judge Obama.

Three things:

1.  What's the current rate of unemployment (the real number, not Little Black Jesus' number)?

2.  What was the worst unemployment level under W?

3.  FOAD.

"There aren't any accounts of miracles that are contemporaneous with Jesus' life, even in the NT."

No, there aren't, but the issue isn't that simplistic.  This doesn't seem like the  place for this kind of discussion, but there are a number of good books that make a very compelling case for the truth of the Gospel accounts.  " A Case For Christ" by Lee Strobel is a good place to start.
