IRS Began Targeting Conservative Groups In 2010
— andy

Irritating auto-play video warning:

THE PLOT THICKENS: ABC News has obtained a draft of a soon-to-be-released investigative reporting (sic) showing that the Internal Revenue Service began targeting conservative groups as far back as 2010 and that senior IRS officials in Washington have known about it for almost two years.

... which makes this Jonathan Alter piece from October 2011 about Obama's miraculous scandal-free administration even more ridiculous.

There are plenty of scandals, if the press would just bother to look. Operation Fast & Furious and this IRS mess, to name just two, were ripe for the picking before the 2012 elections.

But it's almost like the Obama administration engages in these activities with the knowledge that the fifth-column media will bend over backwards to protect its boyfriend. Almost.

The story thus far seems both chilling and cheering. Employees at the agencyÂ’s Cincinnati branch did employ a test that, in effect, targeted tea party groups. Whether they meant it to be discriminatory or they simply created one that was discriminatory is in contention, but ultimately immaterial.

The media's protection of all things Obama is a major factor in the administration's behavior in all of these scandals. The lust for and abuse of power inherent in government, absent the usual checks an active and adverserial press can (if so inclined) provide, has now become apparent. It's not a pretty picture.

Posted by: Highlander at May 13, 2013 07:28 AM (ZPnw0)

51 I doubt this will have any effect either. Read the comments at Mediaite, Huff Po, Politico, etc.. According to the left, while it may seem over the edge, these Tea Party/Conservative groups really should be scrutinized more then everyone else. So nobody was really doing anything wrong. That's the majority thinking in this country.

Agreed.  Which is why, in my ideal world, GOP spokesmen or politicians who address this or Benghazi also would be bashing the press for their complicity in covering things up.  If Hillary has Ambassador Stevens' blood on her hands, so does CNN, for accepting her story.

This is a perfect time to fire a broadside at the MFM, if the GOP were smart enough.  Which is why it won't happen.

94 The scary thing about this is that Obama doesn't have to direct people in government to use the machinery of government to punish his enemies.

They're inspired by him - by the political tone he has set, by the allegations that all of his opponents are evil racists with a retrograde agenda - and they do it of their own accord.

There are certain universities which perhaps we should look at too.  Well...all of them.  But some are far worse than others.

(I'd start by looking at all Tier 1 research universities, in order of the size of their grants and pharma budgets.)

Wash U once got "in trouble" 'round here, because it was pushing very heavily for the Stem Cell research amendment (which IMHO was crafted to funnel them more money.)  Of course a certain Catholic University used that as cover as to why they wouldn't work against it (aid student groups in working against it.)

Typical.  I got a "Notice of Seizure of Assets" letter from IRS for a 940 payment of ~$780 that they said was late.  Was it late?  No it was not.  In fact, I paid it 21 days early.  They applied it to the wrong account.  I was stunned that they didn't even send a letter saying "Hey - you are late" to a business that had never paid anything late.  Nope - right to seizure of assets for $780.  Fuckers.

If they run yet another middle of the road moderate she will get in.  And Rubio right now ain't looking no better/

If the word ever gets out in a big way that Jewish groups were also targeted, then MAYBE some of the lackwit fuckwads who voted for the Preezy because "FREE SHIT!" will actually pay attention. In their tiny, feeble brains, "Targeting Jews = Nazi Germany," so at least they'd recognize that it's a BAD thing.

173 In fact, I paid it 21 days early. They applied it to the wrong account. Registered mail, requiring signature, with return receipt, is the ONLY way to deal with the IRS. You can't leave them any wiggle room to lie about when something was sent, or they will lie. Its expensive doing it that way, but the proof is iron clad and acceptable to any court in the land. One would think the digital paper trail would suffice. Receipts, deposits, checks cleared, etc.

Posted by: ghostofhallelujah at May 13, 2013 11:20 AM (XvrTA)

If this is a distraction then it is the equivalent of lighting oneself on fire to draw attention away from a parking ticket.  Benghazi?  Complicated foreign policy stuff with a bunck Islamo-nuts.  Siccing the IRS on people?  That isn't complex at all.  Even if you don't pay taxes you file a return, and they can audit that.

But please keep up the illusion that you are OFFICIALS with an office. This brings to mind Biden in his "debate," where he repeatedly referred to the POTUS as "Barack." Disrespectful to the office much? He came across as a freshman dork pretending he was best friends with the star quarterback.

185 It looks like the shit is FINALLY getting real. I hope the most corrupt administration in history and their labdogs the MFM take it up the ass all the way to the vitals.

Posted by: maddogg at May 13, 2013 11:25 AM (OlN4e)

No, not the most corrupt. James Buchanan, rated worst president since he was president, has that label. Buchanan's Secretary of War, John B. Floyd, a pro-secessionist Virginian, deliberately scattered federal forces and undermanned military installations in the South so as to nullify any rapid military response to succession should Lincoln win (which he did). Evidence indicates Floyd acted with Buchanan's knowledge, if not his outright approval. US Grant, in his memoirs, admitted he was tempted to ask Lincoln to have Floyd for treason after Floyd was captured, but knew that Lincoln wasn't much interested in retribution.

Thus, Buchanan is hard to beat. Harding's administration came close, but all Harding's Ohio Gang ever wanted was money. Obama's people like power more than money, but--if Solyandra is any indication--they like money, too.

Are we to believe that President Obama had been hoodwinked ?

Are we to believe that President Obama had been had ?

Are we to believe that President Obama had been took ?

Are we to believe that President Obama had been led astray, run amok ?
