IRS Hearings
— Pixy Misa

The IRS hearing on Capitol Hill has begun. At the moment, notorious tax cheat and scumbag Charlie Rangel is speaking.

Don't worry, the administration and Democrats will get to the bottom of this. They have their best low level men working on this. Low Level Men!

Live feed below the jump.

It Depends on What the Definition of "Is" Is [Rick Tempest]: Every scandal needs a catchphrase, and Steve Miller just offered one up.

Speaking of his previous testimony, he said:

"It was inccorect but not untruthful."

Miller just also asked for more money for the IRS, so that they could do their jobs better.

17 5 Pretty simple. Defund IRS. --- I wish it were that simple. Problem being that, as a tax collection agency, they can self-generate their own funding through penalties and interest on taxpayers. Have you seen the kinds of penalties and interest these assholes charge lately? It would go even higher if they had their budget funding pulled.

I'm not watching.

For one thing, I'm at work (even if I'm metaphorically sitting on my hands until some log-jams clear and I can work at work some more).  For another, it's all kabuki.

The problem is that it's kabuki by design.  In the interest of these meetings not taking forever, each committee member is given a specific amount of time they can speak (with a few curliques attached).  Since everyone grandstands before asking their question, that means they don't get to follow up, they have to hope someone "on their side" does so.

So when you hear a witness saying "I cannot recall..." or "I don't remember..." or whatever, they are quite literally running out the clock.

If it stopped at his desk, why the fuck didn't he do his job and prevent this shit?

Someone aught to ask, "Mr. Miller, you realize you are under oath.  Is it your statement- confession really- that you knew about this illegal activity and chose not to stop it?  All on your own?"

Then he can either throw SecTres under the bus, or sacrifice himself.  If he sacrifices himself, then pull an envelope, (You've still got time, since you asked a direct question without grandstanding) and say, "Very well then.  This letter will be sent to the Attorney General as soon as this meeting is over, requesting that he prosecute you as being in violation of US Code [whatever].  Included will be a transcript of your under-oath confession to the crime.  Good day, sir."

143 You definitely should be afraid of the IRS. I got a bill for pass due owed from an IRS office in Ohio and another one in LA. I paid the one out of Ohio because it was 10 bucks cheaper. My check was received and cashed before the due date. The IRS office issued a lien on me after I paid and a week before the deadline. I think they issued the lien and went on Christmas vacation. Fuck me. I bitched and moan with the county who told me the lien would be removed only after one month even though it never should have been filed. I got forms to demand a hearing with the IRS since I didn't think that just removing the lien was enough on their part. I wanted an acknowledgement of wrong doing and a letter to the credit companies. I never got a hearing. They just blew me off and it got to be too much fighting the fuckers.

See there's this eensy-weensy little problem with claiming that the problem is all because of the Citizens United decision.   Let me put you some f'in knowledge, Dems.

The Citizens United decision came from the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court is the final arbiter of what the law is in the United States.

Citizens United is therefore THE LAW.

You don't get to decide which laws you get to follow and which laws you don't like and should try to get around.

This is "Post-bj clinton" Amurrica, Watergate was in 1972, Clinton's impeachment was in 1998-9 for crimes committed earlier.  Nixon became a pariah, while bj clinton pioneered getting away with everything.  Of course, he stood on the shoulders of midgets like Teddy Kennedy and Patrick Leahy, but, he does deserve credit for not only skating--but handing his ugly, angry, and none too bright wife--a sparkly Senate seat as a payoff for her loyalty and mendacity.  He is now the Dims' elder statesman--loved and adored and given tongue baths by the media whenever he deigns to make an appearance.

I forgave W a lot, but, when he partnered bj up with his Dad on that world initiative (I forget what it was), he lost me for good.

Nobody wants an IRS rectal exam, but we all put up with an idea so antithetical to the founding principles of this country because everyone else puts up with it, too. This is a stupid, illogical reason, but it tickles the irrational "fairness" nerve that most of us are cursed with. But selectively applying this terrible power based on political whims and the naked will to power and access to the treasury? That is a different story entirely. There is not and has never been anything noble or patriotic about paying taxes. Cheating is criminal, yes, but not cheating is simply not criminal--people are *supposed* to not cheat. What these fuckers do not understand is that they are going to make patriotism an excuse for cheating on taxes.

254 Meh. I have absolutely no faith in our elected betters to appropriately deal with these things. Hold all the hearings you want. The people running the hearings are as bad or worse than the people who are summoned to the hearings. But that doesn't stop LIVs from continuously voting for them. How about this: Low Level corruption happens. 1 incident, fire the Low Level Employees. More than one, start firing at the very top and work your way down. If the incident involves violation of their Constitutional Oath, then call it for what it is- treason- and bring back public hangings. Instead we'll get a few people fired who no one ever heard of last week and go back to business as usual. Any person with a lick of common sense and decency who had this many inexcusable events going on under their watch at the same time would voluntarily resign. I am also fed up with the "The government is too big for the President to manage!" excuse. My response: I agree. First, because this President can't manage an umbrella (see the picture of him walking through a gate and the Marines he recruited to act as his valets) and has never held a job that produced anything in his corrupt, affirmative action driven life. I agree that overseeing anything larger than a single gold fish is too much for him. Second, yes, government is too big. Start shutting shit down.
