Don't forget, these are people who think that chopped up guts and oatmeal cooked in a stomach is not only edible but a delicacy. (I got that last line from a Monty Python book.)

79 Our autistic kid's psychiatrist took him off of two major meds, and the result is a happier, more emotionally expressive and connected kid.  For the Dr., the decision and the outcomes, we are very thankful this year.

Here's a great side dish that ya still have time to make for Thursday:

Peel & boil 5 lbs. of red potatoes, drain, mash until smooth.

In a microwaveable bowl, soften 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream, 3 tb. butter, and you might as well toss in the needed 2 tsp. garlic salt, 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. black pepper.

Beat all that goodness into the potatoes until you have your desired texture. Let it cool, then cover. (We like to layer clear wrap over it, pressing it down flat.) Put it in the 'fridge at least overnight of for up to 7 days (yes, a week. The flavors blend with time).

When you're ready, place the desired amount in a non-stick or greased casserole, dot w/ desired additional butter, and bake at 350 for 1/2 hour.

106 Always loved staying at the Park Hyatt when in Chicago on business, but I always went out for deep dish pie. --- Yeah, we had Giordanos the first night. (We were with a group and that was their choice.) The Park Hyatt looked nice. We were staying at the James when we were on the employer's dime, then the Westin Chicago River on our own dime. We like Westins a lot and that one is nice and quiet.

212 Galliano! That sounds right. Thanks. Maybe that would work with the cannoli filling.

215 I have had the eggnog recipe for 40+years, so the 4/5 of brandy is 26 ounces My S.I.L and older sister usually needed to crawl to the car to get home after dinner & festivities on Christmas eve after drinking the egg nog

219 "The average Thanksgiving dinner costs as much as 35 food stamp meals"

Dunno about Matty's snobby overpriced hipster neighborhood, but around here there's a crapton of churches and clubs and sports teams giving free Thanksgiving dinners to the less fortunate so they can eat turkey and still sell their EBT for booze.

Posted by: HeatherRadish™ at November 26, 2013 04:59 PM (hO8IJ)

220 Well, let's not be hasty here. If we charge $5 per, we could buy enough Val-U-Rite to keep us buzzed until January 2017. Plus, upgrade the hamsters. Posted by: DC in Towson might be exaggerating slightly at November 26, 2013 08:57 PM (eQJwb)

Ezra can kiss my ass.  He's been outguilted.  My "feast" comes in under $2.

Thanksgiving Dinner: 35 food stamp meals

****

49.04

35 "food stamp meals" (wtf is that)...$1.40

average monthly food stamp benefit $133.31 (per person, so for a family of 4...$533.24)

f'in Ezra...someone ought to ask him if he's signed up for Ocare and food stamps yet.  let him spend a day with the people he "wants to help".

226 Y-Not: thanks for the Chicago restaurant suggestions - I usually try to make it down there in December for Christmas shopping, although their sales tax is so ridiculous I didn't go last year and might skip it this year. It's a fun place to visit - briefly.

228 You can actually eat pretty well on food stamps if you don't go crazy.

229 I love the apples to orangutans comparison by Klein. Food stamp meals to Thanksgiving dinner. How many meals are in Thanksgiving dinner, counting leftovers? 12? More?

233 For some bizarre reason, my antivirus software started blocking all these websites that I was trying to download files from. I finally figured out how to add them to the do not scan list. I'm a bit worried that I won't have any virus protection.

234 204 Would the antenna cover have to be grounded though?

Not really.  It'll leak, but the efficiency will be greatly reduced.  Try it with a tablet or laptop and see how much it degraded with just the foil wrap.

If you gotta be within 10-15' to get a signal, then its good enough.  You ain't building a Steinway here.  Crude is good.

240 Thanksgiving Dinner: 35 food stamp meals Throatpunching Ezra Klein: Priceless Posted by: alexthechick Wow, could this dude get any douchier? How about the cost of Obama left coast fund raising swing, which I'll bet we're paying for. And while we're at it remember the paltry charity contributions Obama and Biden have revealed in their taxes? They give a little more maybe more people could have free Thanksgiving meals which are provided by the thousands by private charity.

My grandmother essentially called me a sissy for owning a 9mm and gave my my grandfather's 1911. That was one of the best Thanksgivings ever.

Yay! for grandmas that know about some guns and give out early Christmas presents.

Only other one I recall is Flatlanders for IL folk. To explain to others, some WI folks are tired of IL tourists in the summer, tho they seem to like their $. Nothing against WI folks, not trying to start anything here. My parents live up there and we are headed up for a good Thanksgiving and scoring some good cheese and butter.

Bloomberg is apparently giving out placemats with "Let's Talk Turkey about guns" to inspire conversation....

That could lead to an expensive black Friday at my house:

 Wife - I want a 22lr pistol

 Daughter - I want a 38 Spl

Me - you know, I really NEED an AR

Then you need to get holsters, extra mags, lotsa range time for 'gun control' practice...
