Jake Tapper's Brutal Questioning of Elliot Spitzer
— Ace

Sometimes you can go too far and wind up making the subject appear sympathetic. I know, I can't stop criticizing; I criticize for going too soft, and now I criticize for going too hard.

Except I'm not really criticizing, just noting the consequences of really going after one of these guys. And seriously, he did go after Spitzer.

I think a big reason it seems so brutal is that it's so unexpected and out-of-the-blue: Democrats don't get treated like this. Ever.

His first question was "When was the last time you violated the law you signed into law?" That was the ice-breaker, the easy slow-pitch to get things moving. And it actually got a little worse after that.

TV clown Steven Colbert was also a little tough on him, at the link.

Pretty sure he was the one who helped usher the head of a few hedge funds into retirement because they supported Republicans instead of Democrats. That helped contribute to the 2008 meltdown with Lehman Brothers.

I finally figured out what bothered me about Jake Tapper. He's a pussy. Tapper gets "tough" every once in a while but all his targets are carefully selected. Tapper picks easy targets.

Tapper never goes out on a limb, never jeopardizes his cred with his fellow leftist journalists. Tapper picks on guys like Weiner and Spitzer, and he'll badger Jay Carney once in a while for show.

Posted by: soothsayer at July 19, 2013 08:52 AM (+oin+)

A few notes:

1) Spitzer seems to be running so he can funnel money to his friends via the comptroller position, I see no other reason to get all weird with Tapper over his COIs.

2) Spitzer's rampant populist crap is scary. I'm entirely unsure if he'd bring the 140 billion of NY to bear to control a company, fuck it over and call it "regulation" or not.  It seems he would be, but we should note that this is NOT THE PURPOSE OF THE JOB.

WRT the pensions, the comptroller's job is to make it as much money as possible (within the bounds of the law) Spitzer seems to think (or at least is implying it for electability reasons) that the jobs is to take over the company, force it into progressivism and then move on.

This is bad.

A sociopath is a person who completely disregards and violates the rights of others while refusing to conform to societal norms.

Spitzer doesn't get upset at these interviews because he has no normal feelings. What kind of person would continually put his daughters through this public spectacle? Forget about the wife, she's in it for the money.

So he is ultra rich, can buy anything he wants including prostitutes but needs this position to get back to a power position so he can fuck with people again.

OT stupid question - when I do a DLC pack for a game does it automatically get integrated into the main game? (XBox)

------------

Depends on the game, and the DLC pack.  Some games even go both routes.  For instance, the popular Arkham City had the Catwoman levels that were seamlessly integrated into the game (but could also be played seperately).  The Harley's Revenge DLC for the same game required you to start up Arkham City, and then select the Harley's Revenge levels at the main menu.

271 (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Friday that "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago" in his first live comments since the verdict last weekend in the case of Martin's shooting death last year. Americans, Obama said, are aware of the "history of racial disparity in our criminal laws" in the country. Match, gasoline, race-baiting. You know what to do.

That reminds me...

I was playing through the game "Remember Me" last night (verdict - it's alright, but not great).  One of the (horribly under-utilised) mechanics of the game is that you can sift around in a target's memories and change their memory of how an event took place (the game does briefly touch on how horrifying this might be).  And while I was playing the game, I remembered the theory about how Obama is who he is in large part because he has Daddy issues.  I literally started to wonder how it might affect things if someone rewired Obama's memories so that he remembered spending ten years with his Indonesian step-father instead of being sent to live with his grandparents when his mother realized that her new husband wasn't turning out to be the noble anti-colonialist third-worlder that she'd envisioned.

358 >>I don't think he understand the difference between saying bad things about an amorphous group ("Wall Street" or "The Tea Party") or a political opponent (Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin) and a private citizen.

Got it. The thing is, Obama has gotten away with so many illegal things that he probably just doesn't give a crap. Who's going to stop him?

364 #340 You know,  if I remember correctly Mr. Soetero worked for .....an oil company.   A clue,  a clue!

I bet you can trace every one of his hair-brained ideas to Obama's horrible childhood.  Mother abandonment: hatred of women.  Father abandonment: hatred and blame of the UK.  Indonesia being his one happy time he ends up with a fondness for Islam,  if not actual conversion, and also his hatred of Christianity.

I rapidly am thinking we need a board of psychiatrists to examine candidates prior to their running.  We seem to be seeing an increasing number of mentally warped people in high positions.

365 "I criticize for going too soft, and now I criticize for going too hard." Cry me a river. Tapper has some of the best instincts for a tough interviewer. He used to make a lot of pols squirm back when he guest-hosted This Week at ABC. Many of us were disappointed they didn't give the show to him but ABC just had to reliably liberal Stephanopolous. Tapper was also good in the White House briefing room on a number of occasions. Spitzer certainly knows Tapper can be tough so he knew what he was likely getting into. And maybe a sleazy pol like Spitzer knows he's going to have to take on some of these questions, head on. And there's probably no way for him to avoid it, NYC media being what it is.

demorats have purged everything around them in the last decade, themselves, Republicans, military, etc, etc, so now the demorats are purging themselves again.  Only the most fanatical are safe.  Guess why they are doing that ?
