Jita Burns, Electric Boogaloo (Gaming Thread!) (Also Open
— Gang of Gaming Morons!

So most of Nullsec has put aside the stuff we fight about for this weekend. We unleash co-ordinated gankfest of freighters and any one dumb enough to head to the main trade hub. Read some Read some Blogs Idiots. I don't know why I should be surprised by High Sec Idiots anymore.

In Theory why we do this.
Why we really do this
Update with the Damage thus far:

If you want to watch it You too can enjoy listening to DBRB apparently he wants to try and Gank a freighter today with nothing but Frigates. Sounds Interesting. We did it last year in Destroyers. It's funny to see the amount of Concord (The "Space Police") that show up to kill 300 destroyers. It looks like Boston did on Friday.

If you do go and watch let me explain what you are seeing. Generally there are 3 fleets going in Jita right now. A fleet of "Bump" Ships which have high mass and speed that keep bumping into Freighters to prevent thier aligning to warp off. Then There is the DPS fleet. These are dudes in Tornados that 1 shot the freighters before Concord blows them up. Then there is "Jita Police" that deal with the War Targets. For some reason Highsec wants to try and stop Burn Jita. It doesn't end well for them.

I had some of my most fun last year dealing with the War Targets during Burn Jita. Last year the Highsec tards War Dec'd the entire CFC, so I could get in on that. This year, they just Dec'd Goons. So no Highsec PVP for Zakn this year. I can't really get in on the Ganking cause my Security Status is still jacked from last year (I don't "Rat"). I'm writing this on Saturday, so I might get drunk and go zonk pods till I go full on -10. I still have a bunch of Catalysts from Hulkageddon last year somewhere....

I was bummed that Helicity Boson said he's to busy to run Hulkageddon right after. But that's life. Some nice screen shots from Burn Jita

Burn Jita isn't the only story in Eve right now. Solar is being Hell Camped by PL and NCdot. Solar Responded by dropping Titans on them and Doomsdaying Carriers right at Downtime. Skip to min 2 if you are impatient.

Why you fly an Archon

Apparently dredditMOT is coming back. This makes me happy

So anyway. I had Ben put the Eve Story in the sidebar that ya'll have seen. I'm heading to Fanfest on Monday. I'll take lots of pictures for ya'll. If you are going to Fanfest and see a bearded nerd in a Twins Hat (who is probably drunk), come say hi. I'll try and tweet some pictures. Follow me @zakn

Brother Cavil fix your shit or you are gonna get kicked from Corp.

Hello, the dude is back with some gaming stuff

Bethesda finally started to blow off the wraps on what Shinji Mikami (pretty much every good Capcom game around the turn of the century, he was behind it) and his new studio, Tango Gameworks was up to. The creator of Resident Evil is going back to the genre of where he made his name with the upcoming The Evil Within. From what Famitsu has written about the story, it sounds exactly the path he originally wanted Resident Evil 4 to down before Capcom shot him down with the main character getting knocked out at the start and waking up in a weird place. They also mentioned that the game is being made with id Tech5. IGN has exclusive screensshots and concept art and a released a live action trailer:

The bigger blowout is due to be released by IGN at 7am eastern

Vanillaware with their weekly Dragon's Crown trailer, this week giving a glimpse of the dwarf

Vic Ireland gives a new update on the status of Class of Heroes 2

Metro: Last Light gets their recommended specs. Has to be the first Titan GPU listing. And though I have hopes for this (liked the first game), I can't say the same about this being optimized. Time will tell.

Monday was the auction of the IPs of THQ, wish we got some info on who actually won which one this week but I figure we should get someone to say something this week.

Thankfully, Pinball Arcade has finally been approved to be released on Steam through the Greenlight process. Will very much be quadruple dipping on this game. Also happy that the PS3/360 Agarest: Generations of War and the next game from Frozen Synapse dudes, Frozen Endzone is also got through this wave.

Adam Baldwin does a great Hal Jordan in Injustice: Gods Among Us, sadly it's stuck in fighter from Ed Boon (sorry, never been a fan of non-shoto fighters).

Want to know when Nintendo is desperate? They finally announce that Earthbound is finally getting the VC treatment in the west.

And hey, they also announced that the awesome Zelda Oracle games (from Capcom) are also coming back as VC releases for the 3DS

They also announced that they are going back to the Link to the Past well with a direct sequel for the 3DS.

And with the dearth of Wii U games, they gave US release dates to Game & Wario (June 23rd) and Pikmin 3 (August 4th).

I would expect more disc/cartridge shortages from Nintendo and they finally realized what everyone has known for almost a decade now, digital sales are great. Now if only they could get with the times and create a universal account.

Slow week on gaming releases with only two that I actually care about. First game is Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine for the 360 and PC. It's been three years since it racked up all of those IGF awards but it's really nice to see this topdown multiplayer heist game fiinally come out:

Second "game" is the expansion pack to one of my favorite games of 2012, Dragon's Dogma titled Dark Arisen. If you don't have Dragon's Dogma yet, just buy the Dark Arisen disc as it comes with the main game. More of everything made me pre-order it. Can't wait

that's about it

Still one of the greatest launch games ever. And only the NeoGeo is a better console for fighting games. So many great games on the Dreamcast due to it pretty much being a home version of the Naomi board

Yet, a few days ago I was thinking about how you could probably get 100 comments on the subject of Monopoly alone. Every family had their own set of rules and some folks want to fist-fight over whether or not the Free Parking space should have a payout or not. Serious, you guys. I love games... just not games.

Ok gaming experts... I own a PS3 and love playing a game called Warhawk... in fact, it's the only game I continue to play on the system- having lost interest in the rest of the games I have....

Will the servers continue to run for PS3 after they introduce PS4?  I've heard that PS4 will not be backwards compatible so I hope the PS3 servers will still be running for quite a while as so I can get my fix...

  Thanks.

42 Just discovered two new "indy" games, both of which are pretty good: Don't Starve - The name pretty much sums it up. You wake up alone in a weird place and have to survive. Gather saplings and flint to make an axe, use it to cut down a tree and make a fire. Find grass, seeds, and manure, start a farm. Trap little bunnies to eat. Awesome game for ten bucks at DontStarveGame.com. PROTIP: don't try to harvest a beehive with an axe wearing nothing but a grass skirt. The Pit - Name also pretty much sums it up. Sci-fi roguelike where you descend into The Pit to find a cure for the zombie apocalypse on a distant human space settlement. It's dece, and has a good name. Actually I guess the proper name is "Sword of the Stars: The Pit," which sounds pretty dumb, but simply "The Pit" sounds awesome. About seven bucks on GOG.

60 I just picked up a refurb wii (already have 360 and PS3) for $80 because it is ridiculously easy to mod to allow you to play all older games. Hackmii works by just sending an email to your wii, and then poof, you have a wii that (once you load home brew emulators) can play all prior nintendo games, Atari games, and so on... Even the old magnavox odyssey2. The original Zelda holds up even after 25 years.

not flaming nor trolling, just disappointed in their console endeavors post SNES (still my favorite console). I'm just flabbergasted with the way they've dropped the ball for almost 20 years. They're too conservative for their own good when it comes to tech. And even when they put decent tech in their box (Gamecube), they still find a way to bungle it with the mini-discs.

As for a Sega fanboy,  in that era, I was more of a fanboy of the T-16 and Duo. But I honestly only never owned a CD-i, 3DO, Jag, 32X and the Sega CD. Though I guess the NeoGeo would count if you forget the arcade MVS cab (owned a 5 slot cab)

84 For those of you who (like me) still do your gaming the old fashioned way-- with dice, graph paper, pencils, and soul-crushing loneliness and self-loathing-- there's a really cool Kickstarter coming to a close, with a ton of steam behind it and lots of freebies unlocked.

Dwarven Forge 3D dungeon terrain.

I have no personal stake in this one other than as a backer and D&D enthusiast.

86 Now that the whining should be trailing off... Nostalgic space sim / shooters? I was thinking about how much fun the original Wing Commander games were, though largely unplayable today. I cast around, vaguely remembering a fanmade Privateer clone ( Gemini Gold)... turns out there's a lot more than that: http://www.wcnews.com/fanprojects/ A couple of these use the Freespace 2 Source Code Project, basically a free engine based on Freespace 2. http://scp.indiegames.us/mods.php Note they have Babylon 5 and Star Wars games - the SW one aiming (not complete) to be an inheritor of the X-Wing games. I tried out Wing Commander Saga. The physics are pretty good (in terms of a WC game), the graphics are a bit dated but adequate. I find the interface incredibly fussy, but for some people that's a plus (a hundred controls to set). It supports joysticks but needs a little config help there - my throttle didn't work and there was no obvious setting for that, it seemed to be keyboard-only for that feature. Oh and the voice acting is not great. Then I noticed something I had missed at the time: Wing Commander Secret Ops: http://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Category:Wing_Commander:_Secret_Ops Note there are download links at that location. This was a full-size downloadable standalone game from Origin in 1998 (lower-spec computers play this fine). There are some graphics issues on some modern computers, but also note on that page the downloadable OpenGL update which also bypasses the obsolete key system on the game. The game was always free, but originally you had to register and get a key. Obviously that server is long gone. Of note is that two fan-made follow-ups were made using that engine, Unknown Enemy (2002) and Standoff (2010). If you were a Wing Commander fan in the day, worth checking out. Especially as, you know, free.

88 Man, I'm really glad I got out of that dinky Solar Fleet renter corp I was in months ago.

Wasn't a good fit for me then, but I never thought they would fail that badly.

89 Didn't we see that chick on the cover of Busty Asian Beauties? I like hearing about the Eve stuff, FWIW...some people seem to whine about it...wish I had some serious spare time to play it. Thanks for the Gaming Thread!

90 Yes it is bad times for Solar. Hellcamped into your staging system with 400 JF worth of shit in there.

91 87 wish sci-fi flight sims weren't in such a horrible rut Posted by: The Dude at April 21, 2013 03:23 PM (vJdyz) The reason I looked back to WC is that I longed for simplicity. I love X3 with a passion but it's too complex given I don't play very often - I have to re-learn an encyclopedia every time I go back. I'm tempted to load up Freelancer. There's a F2P space shootey game on Steam called Moon something. Moon Breakers. It's not clear from the description whether it's 100% PVP, in which case screw that I'll uninstall. Because tedium. Haven't played yet, just downloaded it. There is a kind of person that loves a crazy complicated interface. That happens to not be me. I would like to see more games with good story and missions and gameplay but not with 100 controls or contextual change-on-a-dime control schemes or any of that.

yeah, Moon Breakers is akin to World of Tanks and frankly doesn't do it well. Better off playing Star Conflict.

As for complex, would kill for someone with the same eye to detail of the games from Eagle Dynamics to make a space flight-sim

93 Yea I have heard good things about Star Conflict. I haven't played though

96 Star Conflict seems mostly PVP. And I see words like "griefing" and "pay to win" a lot.

yeah, it's a deathmatch game. As for pay to win, haven't come across that or at least no more than World of Tanks is "pay to win"

98 PVP is the wave of the future - because developers don't have to do as much work. Which means I'll be playing more old games, I guess.

sure if you don't take into account of the metagame, balancing and the continual need to add stuff to keep people playing.

PVP is the way to get a community to play the game longer than they normally would before dropping it.

100 sure if you don't take into account of the metagame, balancing and the continual need to add stuff to keep people playing. All of which needs to be done in a story-based game, as well as making the story and missions, more maps, NPCs, dialogue, voice acting, etc. PVP is the way to get a community to play the game longer than they normally would before dropping it. Posted by: The Dude at April 21, 2013 04:29 PM (vJdyz) But only for PVP players, which is not the whole world. 4/5 of my close circle of gaming friends ignore PVP. We used to play some deathmatch stuff like UT2k4, back in the day, but it was awfully repetitive. We've been bitching about the relative lack of co-op story-based games for years.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith's Other Mobile[/i][/b][/s] at April 21, 2013 12:37 PM (qyfb5)

101 kind of anecdotal though, Obviously tons of people are playing if stuff like League of Legends can get 5+ million of people on at the same time. I think your looking at multiplayer "games" the wrong way, they're not really games per say but rather services.

as for a lack of co-op story based games, there I can't disagree with you. Last good one was the new Syndicate (which actually feels like a game in the Syndicate series rather than a mediocre FPS).

102 I should do a PVP feature next week just in spite

Posted by: The Dude at April 21, 2013 12:54 PM (vJdyz)

103 Hey, if the majority want mindless grinding PVP bashing/shooting/zapping, that's fine, they can have that. I'm just not signing up because I think it's boring. I don't watch soap operas or read romance novels either, and they're way more popular than PVP games. LOL is a free download IIRC, and Skyrim sold 10 million copies. Seems like there's a place for PvE somewhere.

104 I don't even PVE in Eve. I burned out on PVE Content in Everquest.

I'm also -10 now due to Smartbombing people trying to whore on Loot

106 Heh... didn't realize the morons were in on Burn Jita.  I've spent much of the weekend there.  In an alt.  Ninja looting the wrecks.  In a noobship.

Maybe 15-20 million iskies so far, and strangely no deaths.  Not too bad considering it's a heck of a lot more fun than running missions or crap like that.

A few weeks back I grabbed a new game off of Steam - Strike Suit Zero.  Most of the game is the usual space dogfighting that's all over the genre.  But the titular strike suit is a one of a kind fighter that transforms into a mecha.

108 Also it seems like trolling/flaming nintendo is a staple of these weekly posts. You aren't in third grade anymore, you don't need to justify your decision to buy a sega console to the rest of your peers. Posted by: Sjg at April 21, 2013 01:47 PM (gDSJf) >>I've noticed the same thing.

111 I'm a few days late to the post, but kudos for talking about EVE. It can be intimidating, but is also terribly interesting. For anyone playing EVE: Wormhole space is the best. Find a C5 group and live it up. ('Wrong Hole.' tell them Alskari sent you.)
