— Ace NRO posted this, but honestly, I thought Kristen Powers and Jonah Goldberg made more interesting points on this than Krauthammer. Ah well. It's something.
I don't think this is just about abortion. The media refuses to cover any wedge issue which might hurt Democrats.
Oh, they do love reporting on things that put pressure on fissures between Republicans or fissures between Republicans and Independents. But when a story threatens to damage the papered-over differences between Democrats, or between Democrats and Independents, suddenly the media isn't interested in difficult political questions.
This story exposes faultlines between Democrats, who are by political necessity abortion absolutists, and Independents, who may lean somewhat pro-choice but sure the hell aren't on board for infanticide. But to report this story at all would put the Democrats in the difficult position of angering its an element of its hardcore single-issue leftist coalition, or alienating independents.
Thus, the media -- which just "wants to report the facts" and "takes no positions on policy questions" and which has no partisan leaning at all -- simply doesn't report the story at all.
After all, if the public hears of it, they may make The Wrong Decisions.
You don't trust children with matches and you don't trust the American public with information. It's that simple.

When we lost a second trimester baby, we saw a fully formed baby, that for a reason never known, died inside me.

For the last 3-4 years I've noticed an increase of news items about incidents in the US coming from Brit Papers.
What's crazy is that it's normal stuff. it's not all that out of the ordinary for a news story.
Yet the State Media has decided they won't cover it and so they don't.
I suspect that there is more than one list serv for liberals in the Media and they have meet and decided on a general plan and anyone who deviates from that format will be punished. (how? I don't know but there has to be more than just ideology driving this conformity.)
I wish someone would/could sue them for violations of contributions to Democrat campaigns and/or for anti trust violations. Something to crack that nut wide open for all to see how they've conspired and contrived to create a false reality to conform with their desired narrative.

Perhaps people should start pestering local news about this story.

fyi, a lot of papers buy their news from AP or NY Times or WaPo. That's why you don't sometimes see a story you would expect to in a different state, because if its not covered the small town paper would have to expense their own reporter to cover it.
Thats why it is important to smack around the nyt or the ap or the wapo and their jobs as the pr arm for the dem party.

Fertility treatments are wasteful in that in one method, you fertilize many embryos, plant a few, and hope one sticks (and sometimes more than one does; then you might have the choice of killing a few or hoping there aren't too many complications).
So there are reasons to object to certain types fertility treatment, and people who are hardcore pro life will probably have spent the time thinking out the issue to the point they will object to certain fertility treatments.

I do know that one of the reasons that the Catholic Church and other denominations opposes in vitro is because in some (but not all) types, you can create a larger number of embryos that the mother could possibly carry, resulting in leftover embryos. There are embryo adoption ("snowflake baby") services for couples who have too many, but the concern is that the embryos will be forgotten and/or destroyed without having a chance to be born.

I don't believe they object to fertility treatments per se but to the manner in which they are carried out. Specifically what is done with the redundant embryos.
Remember those embryos are fertilized eggs and as such for some, they are considered human babies.
Pro lifers should take a page from the Liberal Handbook and given in (for now) on Plan B and other implantation situations that they find objectionable in return for a hard ban on abortion after a baby is viable out of the womb. (correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that at about 6-7 months?)
HARD BAN. No excuses. None Except possibly imminent death for the mother.
And Hospital sanitary standards and admitting rights by the doctor at the nearest hospital for all abortion clinics.
And defunding of Planned Parenthood.
Then wait a few years and then increment up from there.
Let's stop the killing of real actual living breathing babies separated from having full citizenship rights by the thickness of the womb.
Then pick at the rest.

I was hoping Ace would post this documentary about the Gosnell clinic. It is here if you missed it. Its about 20 minutes and called "3801 Lancaster". It has some very shocking testimony. Consider yourself warned. Most of Gosnell's patients were black or Hispanic, but he treated the white girls in a separate room with more sanitary, better conditions. He thought white girls would be more apt to report him. Of course, when he was arrested, he cried 'racism'.

A smaller, local newspaper is typically going to rely on journalists with other organizations (typically newspapers local to the region, or the AP) for their stories on a particular topic. If that isn't available, then the only alternative is for the paper to fly reporters out to the location, pay for their lodgings, and fly them back. That gets expensive.
Pester a paper enough on a particular story, and they'll probably go ahead and do it. The fuss tells them that there's an actual interest. But without that, they'll probably just look at what organizations like the AP have to offer and pick from that collection of stories (plus the local stuff that they write on their own, of course). i.e. since Gosnell isn't being covered by any of the big organizations or by the smaller papers that are local to the story, it's probably not going to get picked up by any of the smaller papers that aren't local to the area.

187 sven, I still caution against making these accusations as a way to bring change. Short of secret payments from the DNC, you can't every prove such a thing and the larger point is lost.
It's enough to challenge their professionalism. They hate that more than anything. I was one of them. (Just a local reporter-turned-state-senate-communications guy, but...) Challenge their integrity. Provoke a fight they can't win. That's what will flush them out. Anything more strident they just ignore and the status quo wins.

I hear ya. Besides being easy on the eyes I think she represents our essential decency (realizing that it's bad form to compliment yourself), in that, regardless of passionate rhetoric and beliefs, we really are hungering for some accomodation with the other side. I still cannot believe a grandmother would do this, but it happened. And then I started to wonder about the lives many of those black kids live in their so-called family situations. I thought of Condi Rice's parents making sure she dressed nice and studied hard, and then I thought about that poor girl.
God really needs tointervene in this country. Perhaps we should pray for intercession from Father Emil, since they are making a case for his sainthood. (Suggestion only to Catholics who believe in the intervention of saints. I do not want to offend Protestants.)

Good point. A place to start I think is in getting our side to talk in down to earth, man on the street terms and vocabulary. Just this morning I was watching a Republican official describing the President's budget and I was cringing it was so wonkish. Hell, the guy turned me off and I understood where he was coming from. You have to speak to your audience. And not to sound snobbish or elitist, the fact is that the audience is not freaking 'high society'. It's Joe and Joan Six Pack, for crying out loud. Talk in terms that they understand. The Dems sure as fuck know how to do this.

I think he got rolled by a source that told him what he wanted to hear. I do not think that provision was part of any "compromise bill" because there's simply no way that something as insanely insane as doctors being able to put you on a gun-ban list without your knowledge and without any process to challenge it was a "compromise." A provision that did what Erickson claimed this one would is beyond the Democrats' wildest dreams. No doubt they'd love it. There's no way it'd fit in with the claims to "compromise."
