Weep for yourself, my man,
You'll never be what is in your heart
Weep, little lion man,
You're not as brave as you were at the start
Rate yourself and rake yourself
Take all the courage you have left
And waste it on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head
But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time

I am curious to see what Phil Robertson does from here on out. Let's see if he is really a man of his convictions.
My guess is that he is, and is just fine walking away. Reminds me of my father.

It's freaking Hollywood, they never do truly faithful adaptations, though LotR wasn't bad, just really, really pared down. In the Hobbit though, they've been just making shit up, like rabbit sled. I mean, really? Really?

So to recap...
Obama hired a Canadian company to make his Obamacare website...after they were fired by two other governments for failing to build simpler websites.
Then, for the face of the website they choose a telegenic young woman...who wasn't a citizen...and didn't pay her or even ask her permission.
Obama sure is one big ball of competence...isn't he?

So does a fungus.
The worse thing about what Jackson has done to the whole franchise I think is very simple. By pouring all this back story into a simple heist movie it makes Mithrandir/Gandalf and others of Middle Earth appear to be idiots who went to sleep for 60 years. They knew something was coming and did nothing until oh my gosh Mordor is rebuilt.

I have no problem with pulling in material from the LOTR appendices and elsewhere to flesh out the back-story around the Necromancer and where Gandalf hared off too half way through the journey in THE HOBBIT, but some of the stuff they made up from whole-cloth, and other things they gave short shrift (Beorn, the spiders in Mirkwood, etc.) make it really tough to like the movie unconditionally.
I understand movies are not books -- there is no way Jackson should be expected to devote time to telling how the dwarves kept trying to crash the elves' party over and over and over and over again, to no avail -- but some of their storytelling choices are exceedingly questionable coming from a group of people who have done some great work in the past. It's sad.
That said, I was able to make the break in my mind, and I enjoyed the movie and all it's spectacle for what it is: a *loose* adaptation of THE HOBBIT.

Beorn is in the movie. Their design for him is interesting, and the actor who plays him makes the most of his (all too brief) time. And you get to see him in what I'll refer to as his alternate form, so as to not somehow spoil it for the noobs
But he isn't given nearly enough attention -- I'm sure they just included him because they sort of had to, and so audiences would know who to look for when the Battle of Five Armies rolls around...
FWIW, Richard Armitage earns his paycheck in the 2nd movie, and is quite good, I think.

Robertson will require an hour show so he can preach a sermon. He'll require that it be attended by A&E executives. Or they lose the whole clan.
After checking into this guy ( I don't watch the show) that seems to be his modus operandi in the past. Neither he or his family could give two shits about the show on A&E going away. The only one with anything to lose in this is A&E.

Don't know if this counts as YA, but Hugh Howie's "Silo" trilogy is good so far. I have the 3rd one sitting on my kindle, but it's been long enough since I read the 1st one that I need to go back and refamiliarize myself with that book's characters since it looks like they return in the 3rd.

I've been reading articles and comments on the Duck Dynasty bullshit.
A and E channel is a business, and they probably like making money, so I don't think the executives are wanting to discontinue this little money-maker series. I also believe it's not just the LGBT crowd pressuring them to cancel it. This is coming from a higher source. Perhaps the FCC relayed a message from the WH or a comparable authority that they better do something about this or face some dire consequences. Like a fist-up-the-ass IRS audit.

They did work for him in the 1930s.
American proggs loved him until he double-crossed Stalin, whom they loved more.

I was doing OK with it, even though I was annoyed at several things they had done, until they got to the Kingsfoil bit. That's where I could no longer stop my eyes rolling.

Think Gale is psychotic because he helps develop - and uses - weapons designed to purposely kill as many people as possible (the 1-2 punch explosions where the 2nd explosion kills the people fleeing from the first, or traps 'em under a mountain).

Hmmm based on googling that seems like a lot of hair grooming.
Any dogs with similar qualities but less shedding?

I've always been an advocate of Fen's Law.
If liberals believed any of the enviroweenie shit they spout so freely, they'd all go into the woods and eat a shotgun.
It's tough to live one's faith convictions.
Tougher if you're a liberal.

You know that other writer in my group. The one who called out of the blue last week to have lunch? The one I found out spouse was out of town and kids not in house?
Well they just text messaged me. We had the writers lunch yesterday. So today another text message asking how am I doing. I reply writing and doing laundry. Next text is about this art thing happening Monday night. I answer I plan to be out of town for the holidays. Next text message is about they were looking for a date for that night.
I am so done, not answering anymore text messages.

Season 3 of Downton Abbey is another mega-popular show that suffered no ill-effects from it's homosexual valet sub-plot.
This will turn out to be a big yawn. DD will remain as popular as ever.
In my counter-factual world, what would be really interesting is an episode of a mega-popular show centered around a successful muslim family in Dearborn, Michgan where the Patriarch waxes eloquently about the evils of homosexuality and how it should be punished.
What would the reaction to that episode be?
Stay turgid, morons

The Bernese Mtn Dogs are big drooly lovable lugs a lot like St. Bernards that drop only slightly less stool in your yard than a Belgan Draft Horse. Unfortunatetly they only live 6-8 years on average. Which is why I prefer my Australian Shepherds. They're smarter, only about 75 lbs, drool and shed less and poop a lot less than your average yard horse. My aussies have the same color pattern as Bernese Mtn Dogs and like them LIVE for your hand.
I got married earlier this year and between the wife and 2 dogs I don't think I could be more loved.
