I can't be completely outragey about this because Phil Robertson did, after all, talk about this stuff in fairly crude, blunt terms. That invites a reply in the same spirit.
However, I would point out that Robertson didn't say what he said on a television show adhering to community standards of taste. He said it for a magazine interview, and print is always allowed more latitude that filmed or televised material.
This is now basically just MSNBC's go-to subject: Poopie Sex.

I hope the opposite, actually. I hope it gets banner ratings because ppl who have never seen it before tune in, and grow to like the family. It puts more pressure on A and E to do the right thing, and gives the Robertsons more clout in negotiations.

Well they just decriminalized polygamy in Utah, which is the beginnings of the baby steps needed to eventually strike down the ban on H8ful bigamy laws still firmly in place. Once bigamy laws struck down then anything goes, I imagine.

Yes, they groom them to accept it. I watched some show about polygamy and one of the daughters was engaged and they asked her if she wanted to be in a plural marriage after she had been married for awhile. Her mother was the first wife, so that put her in an awkward spot--criticize her mother's choices to allow the second and third wife. She finally mumbled something about being obedient to whatever God's plan was revealed for them.

I don't have a drop in pioneer blood in me, but I do understand the love my friends that do have for their heritage. A lot of families still have journals from their ancestors that crossed the plains. They revere them for their grit and sacrifice and faith, and kind of just accept that polygamy as this thing that occurred, they are the product of it, and shrug it off and move on. That's my take.
Muslims are also modest in dress and abstain alcohol; they would probably enjoy the state very much. But the majority I know didn't stay Muslim, converted to Christianity, so what do I know?

But yes, there are always going to be odd ducks. You'll find a polygamist family or two in the very rural towns in the boonies of the state, not just on AZ border.
