Fantastic interview with Greta Van Susteren.
The Republican leadership isn't conservative. . . . [Conservatives] constitute a threat to the way Washington views the country. And I don't think it's so much conservative versus liberal, although it is; it's Washington versus the rest of the country.
It's a must-see interview. He talks about Detroit, poverty, the fact that the Democrat party needs a permanent underclass, immigration and more.
Below the fold is the first of several parts. Follow the links for the rest.

Option A - Start from scratch with a brand new party.
Option B - Hostile takeover of the Republican Party, complete with purges, banishment, public humiliations, etc.
Pick your poison.

My standard practice for months now. I try to come up with new ways to insult them.
Have a couple on my desk waiting for them.
What I don't get is, these have to be working, they have to be getting some money from them: I want to know who these people are that get these phony-ass "surveys" and send money back?

I have ranted to RNC callers for more times than I can count. I have asked to be taken off all call lists. I have told them they are not defending us, and that they lied to me during the last campaign (they did).
Now I am getting the "past due" mailings. I have been a Republican since 1980 and am just so frustrated and disheartened than I cannot work up any interest in who even gets the presidential nomination.
So, "Put not your trust in princes" is a Bible verse I keep in mind. I am devoting my time to helping my family and my church.

The irony is that the GOP will wind up with the worst of both worlds. So-called moderates will be nowhere to be found since most voters are partisans even they refuse to admit it to pollsters. And the base will grow disenchanted and stay home. Say what you will about how awful the Democrats are at running the country, but they at least understand that in order to win national elections, you better appeal to your base first and foremost.

And I want know who the fuck at the RNC is manning the phones, opening the solicitation letters.
I'm pretty sure it goes like this, at least so far as the solicitation letters go:
*Intern gets mail*
*Intern opens mail*
*Intern looks for check, money order, or credit card information*
*If none of these things are present, intern trashes letter*
Repeat ad infinitum.
As for the phone calls, I suspect the staffers who receive them have been coached to say conciliatory things, but on the other end of the line they're doing one of two things:
A) Rolling their eyes and thinking, "I don't get paid enough for this shit" (and they're right); or
B) Making exaggerrated wanking motions.

Power > country, even if means the GOP is just a small voting bloc for the Dem majority and a willing scapegoat for all their foibles.
Disgusting.

So, your saying I should send them a bunch of those phony "here's a check for $1,000 (toward the purchase of your new car)" type deals?
'Cause that'd be fucking funny: "Here's a check for $1,000 (upon the repeal of the EPA)."

Man, why the heck don't italics work? Do you have to use html tags to force them?
Posted by: Gaff at July 31, 2013 11:20 AM (jPS2y)
No - BBCodes. Here's what I know works (remove the spaces, and unless you want to be put into the barrel, remember to close them with a / between the [ and the letter):
[ i ] for italics
[ b ] for bold
[ s ] for strikethrough

something I've wondered: why do conservatives allow the GOP to define the party/position? Are there more of (fill in your favorite pejorative for Democrat who is on the R ticket here) than (fill in your favorite term for true conservative)? Is it all about money and control of the 'high' positions in the party?
Shouldn't this be a more selective system? Isn't the Republican party supposed to represent us, the registered (or formerly registered) members?
Prebius should be out after the debacle of 2012. Don't enough hold that point of view or just the wrong type of 'us'? Likewise Rove, and anyone else who tanked the election. They didn't produce results, why should I give them another chance?
Likewise for the elected representatives: McCain is an example of who should be dis-invited to the party, since he's not exactly expressing core conservative values.
Rather than going 3rd party shouldn't an effort be made to truly clean up the Republican party or is the name/brand too damaged?
</mindless rambling; thanks for letting me waste your e-paper>

Generally, third parties get what crumbs they can get because of quiet sponsorship and financing by a major party. Thus, Dems support Libertarian interests because they believe that it will hurt the GOP. Likewise, the Repubs quietly support parties such as the Green Party because they believe that it will take votes from the Dems.
Read Robert Heinlein's Take Back Your Government for pointers on how to retake your local party apparatus. If the Paulists can do so, then conservatives can too. The key mistake to avoid that the Paulists have made is that not to push things that are non-starters that scare the chickens. Unless there is a crisis, conservatives must play the long game just like the progressives have done. People generally vote their economic interests and seek to avoid losses in such. Thus, for the long run so you will need to persuade a majority that conservative policies will help them benefit. It took 100 years of progressivism to get us to this place, it might take a generation or two to fix it at the least.
Assuming SMOD of some sort doesn't arrive then all bets are off. The chances for some sort of Mussolini winning/seizing office become quite good. I think someone like Chris Christie could quite possibly view themself like Il Duce.

Option B - Hostile takeover of the Republican Party, complete with purges, banishment, public humiliations, etc.
I don't think B is doable. They are entrenched the top. The idle rich get up at 10:00 am, an hour before welfare recipients, to go a brunch meeting at the club. So they can plan the next $5000 a plate fund raiser. Don't know about yuz-guys, but I can't spring for that party. They proably spend more for the party than they raise, but it's expedience. Look what they did to Col. West.

I want to be part of a new party's base.
The Libertarians have a shaky foreign policy stance that has kept this military man out of there but...I am starting to think that they might be the ticket.
Where is the Tea Party? Why can't they be a choice on my ballot free and independent of the Republicans?
Posted by: sgmstv at July 31, 2013 08:54 AM (crTpS)
To those who say that a Third Party just dilutes the Republican vote...who cares?
Look at what the Republicans have given up over the years. It is death by dribbles. They get villianized by Democrats for Issue A, they refuse to budge in Issue A because thier base hates Issue A for awhile, then the perceived villiany for opposition to Issue A becomes Issue A and the former Issue A becomes Issue B.
Then, since Issue A is now Republican Villiany they decide to solve the new Issue A by conceding on Issue B.
So who really cares if we split the vote? All that does is let the damage happen more quickly instead of the slow death we suffer now.
They fought a good fight against Obamacare but only because the emerging Tea Party forced it. Look at Amnesty...Amnesty is an Issue B for them now. Issue A is not looking racist. For me, Issue A is still Amnesty. I need that party.
The only reason they stand behind the 2nd Amendment is because failing to would birth a 3rd party almost instantly.
