Marathon bombing victim looks for laughs, not pity [CBD]

This seems to be a trait that we have not yet lost!
The exceptionalism that will save us is in abundance in this guy.

About those MPG numbers for electric vehicles? Uh...maybe not.

Even when Israelis agree with the left, they are ostracized in academia.

Our transportation module--aka a Toyota Camry 2.2-- regularly achieves 36mpg, with no particular effort made to drive in a gas saving manner.  Fine by me.

My Toy, otoh, can generate between 6 and 14 mpg, dependent on the driving manner.  Again, fine by me.

The enjoyment derived driving that toy outweighs the dismal mileage, so a good tradeoff far as I care.

15 The environmental cost of electrical vehicles is further hidden by subsidies and the overseas manufacturing of light weight battery systems. The depreciation schedule of these batteries is simply absurd. 7 years and you will be paying $20K for a refit.

24 So, Bob Dole is complaining about how he, Nixon, and Reagan would not have made it in today's GOP. Bob, let me explain it to you. You lost to the Democrats, Reagan only checked the Democrats on some things, and Nixon gave in to the Democrats on big government. Bluntly--Nothing has truly stopped them, as much as you might like to think you have. We in this present day are trying to fight off a complete and total victory of Progressivism that is about to happen because they have been treating it as an inexorable push since the late 19th century, and folks like you and Nixon always took the short-term victory that either enabled their long term progress or did nothing to truly prevent. We have just about lost, Bob, and it because pols like you never realized that while politics is about the art of the possible, statecraft sometimes demands the art of the seemingly impossible as well. Thus, not all of us are blinded as you are about the joys of "getting things done" when all it means is the eventual loss is pushed to month 3 of year 81 vice month 10 of year 80. It is time for the art of the impossible, to both dream the impossible dream and do it. Stand aside, Bob, and stop your carping. Because, when frankly considered, as we stand at the brink of total Progressive victory, it's not like we can do worse than you guys did, because you guys got us to this point. *You* lost to Bill Clnton, Bob--not us. Not us.

They're great cars, fluffy, and almost impossible to kill.  It's not their fault that the hipsters embraced them.  The one thing you want to do is get rid of it before the main major service (I can't quite remember what it is, timing chain or some shit), because it requires the entire engine go be pulled and costs about 2 grand.  This from my car guru.

Just my humble opinion, but I think you're a lot better off with the Subaru than the Volvo.  I had a Volvo back in the 70s, it was like a fuckin' tank.  They're not built that way anymore, they are tinny and cheap, surviving strictly on their reputation as far as I am concerned.  Of course, you do have to live by the ancient wisdom -- if mama ain't happy, nobody gonna be happy.

Posted by: Peaches at May 26, 2013 04:50 PM (8lmkt) They're still tanks. Huge, heavy. The last word I would apply to volvo is "tinny." People overestimate their quality. Good materials and comfortable, but not the most reliable cars in the world - they seem to do okay for the first few years like everyone else. They lost their capacity as "million mile cars." Oh, and my old 60s and 70s volvos were a little tinny, actually, but that was lack of insulation.
