Marco Rubio May Walk From Gang of Eight?
— Ace

According to this report, he may have decided he'll get credit enough for trying to work with the Open Borders committee.

In other words, itÂ’s a lot easier to walk away, basically unscathed, and portray himself as the reasonable guy who genuinely wanted reform but couldnÂ’t negotiate with the unreasonable Democrats, than it is to stick around and actually get the bill done.

If he does walk away, it would be great boon to the Rational side of the immigration debate. We could put him forward as The Guy Who Tried to Broker a Deal with the Open Borders Committee, But Who Was Thwarted At Every Turn.

15 Yeah, I kind of thought this is what would happen. He really gave them every opportunity to compromise and they sabotaged it. In fact, the Democrats don't even want this. They like having the issue. Rubio walking away gives cover to all other Republicans. Except Grahamnisty. He'll stick on until the bitter end.

33 Tell me. Do homosexuals need jobs? Do they pay taxes? Are they crushed under the burden of the regulatory State? Are they not in need of schools, of policemen, of firefighters? Do they not have the god-given right to own and carry a gun to protect their person and loved ones from crime? Do they have the right to choose andoctor without worrying about what some bureaucrat up on Beacon Hill has to say about it? Democrats, and our friends in the press, have taken the tiniest slice of life for a homosexual and blown it up out of all proportion. Because they know, as you do, that in every single case, republicans are right on jobs, right on taxes, right on civil rights, and right on individual liberty, and the democrats only want your vote. ...that's how you answer the gay marriage question

According to a study released in January by Prudential, their median household income is $11,000 higher than the general population's. ...that's how you answer the gay marriage question Nope. They don't care. Liberalism is all about making you feel good. You don't feel good about indirect economic effects that come from a growing economy. You feel good about giving people stuff from the goodness of somebody else's heart. You want to answer the gay marriage question? Remind them that women are the beneficiaries of marriage, that all "spousal benefits" are geared toward child-bearing women and that women are at a huge advantage in divorce proceedings. All of that goes away with "marriage equity". You might say that supporters of gay marriage are misogynistic. Attack their self-righteousness, that's how you defeat liberals.

I think Rubio walked into this immigration reform trap in good faith. I believe he genuinely believes an 'eventual path to citizenship' approach is the most pragmatic, workable approach, and that he--like Paul Ryan with his budget plan--was doing what he thought was the right thing to do. I admire principled leaders willing to risk political capital on important issues even if I disagree with their particular stand on this or that issue.

However, if Rubio makes this big dramatic show of walking away from this sorry business and then later votes for legislation so close to it as to be indistinguishable, then I'll know Rubio's a phony, and that his refusal was just dog and pony for the cameras.

Meanwhile, Rubio has been batting 1000 on issues that are despised by the primary base, and are anti-populist. What's Rubios real play here? Tricky to say, but I'm guessing he bought into beltway bullshit, got out of the loop for a while and rediscovered how deeply unpopular this shit is. Watch for Rubio to try to play the anti-insider card real soon, sorta like McCain did long ago.

It wasn't until pretty recently in our history, that you could be a dual citizen in America....

And I think we need to put that back.... if you are American... you are NOTHING else... period... no other loyalties...

He was always similar to Obama, in the sense that he was a blank screen on whom people projected their fantasies.  This is his first tangle with real politics, and it turns out, he's not very good at it, or at least woefully inexperienced and unclear about his own stature and unperceptive about the motives of others.  He can't pull the blank screen stuff anymore.  He'd better up his game, and fast.

There's nothing that ruins our society like judges getting involved. Same here. But we have to be happy warriors on the campaign trail. Nobody who isn't paying attention really thinks gay marriage is all that bad. It's only people who are engaged that have a strong opinion one way or another. The first reson you say it like I said it is to deflect the cleavage. You don't actually give the answer. The second reason is to embarrass the questioner. The third reason is to express "I care about people like you." The fourth reason is to express "I care about gays like you do." It's a very positive message that turns the cleavage around on the questioner and the democrats rather than taking it on the chin wih one or another constituency.

Look at how populist positions, AKA conservativism and not McCain/Romney Liberalism, poll. The question has been, especially since 2010, why the GOP refused to articulate or hold the obvious winning positions. As a mere matter of probability, eventually someone like a senator is going to come along and articulate them for the easy win.

He joined in on the gun control filibuster only after Rand, Lee, and Cruz had made an announcement of their intentions. Today we must all be aware that political expediency and latino ethnicity takes precedence over rule of law and constitutional procedure. However you say – WHAT THE – what does this mean… in relation to the tabulation whereby we must once again realize that the great reconquesta story is now being rehearsed before our very eyes, in the rise of Marco Rubio… indicating that only a two-faced, I mean a bi-faced, I mean a bi-lingual hombre can receive…the award for reconquesta, unlike Kenyan Hussein Obama whose reconquesta plans don’t drink water.

Amigos – comrades – friends, we are gathered here as an edifice of the great glory that is now vanishing and the intuitive feeling, based on the assumption as Mencken once said, “He who underestimates the American voter will never go broke.” This is merely a small indication to behold and to perceive that which has gone way into the behind and to that which might project .. I mean go forward ...  out of the mouth ... i mean ..  the futureÂ…weÂ’ve got to rip up the constitution so we can rip down those outdated borders! Ladies and Gentlemen. The time will come when a first world America will outlive its usefulness. Marx, either Groucho or Karl, I can't remember which, maybe it was both or maybe it was Harpo, once said that America is the opiate of the people. I say that when America outlives its usefulness and becomes a majority latino nation , then opium...will be the opiate...Ahh that's not a bad idea... we are going to need that especially when the booze runs out ...
And the bi-partisan panel, has determined to give the prize to Marco Rubio for his EARNESTYÂ’S RAINBOW. Now EARNESTYÂ’S RAINBOW is a token of this manÂ’s geniusÂ…he told me so himself and repeatedly Â…that he could change perceptions by calling his plan for knocking down those pesky borders EARNESTY Â…in other words, he could have been more specific, but rather than to allude to an articulation of the mundane, he has come to the conclusion that brevity is the importance of our nationÂ’s shallow first world existence. God damn!

Marco Rubio’s . EARNESTY’S RAINBOW – is a small contribution to a certain degree, since there are over seven billion people in the world today. 450 of them … million live in the United States and Mexico which is a very, very small amount compared to those who will be miserable and dying elsewhere…Well, I say that you will be on the road to new horizons, for we who live in a society where citizenship is a commodity and a politician can become a TV personality, it’s not easy to conform if you have any morality…I, I, I said that myself many years ago…
But I do want to thank la Raza…I mean the RNC … I mean the DNC and it’s subsidiary the RNC, the organization for the $1,000 in affirmative action latino scholarships they’ve given out…tonight they took in over $4,000,000, but they do have expenses for their consultants you know, and I think that I have another appointment. I would like to stay here, but for the sake of brevity I, I must leave. I do want to thank you, I want to thank Mr. Ace, who just ran through the auditorium and out a fire exit, and I want to thank Marco Rubio – acting el Presidenta of la Raza Mexiamerica and also Mr. Obama – acting Pharaoh and Drone Commander of the World – and also I want to thank you. ...

129 Truman, It goes back to my thesis from a few weeks ago. The establishment of the GOP ultimately is pro-liberal, and do makes the choices and decisions that best advance the cause of leftism. Putting together winning messaging, asserting winning policies, etc isn't all that impossibly hard. Rather, the elites/establishment refuse to do so, because it would start rolling back leftism. I suspect that once the momentum shifts against leftism, we may be in for a surprise at how quickly their edifice crumbles. Because it's stretched thin, and they won't be able to pay off all their client-class-members if there is even a tiny rollback.

161 Populist winning position: Who spends your money better, you, or DC? Remember how quickly Obama shut Paul Ryan down over that exact phrase in 2009? It's been poll-tested as a winning phrase. Romney refused to use it? Why? He disagrees. What do you do when Rand starts using phrases like it, or, "you should decide your healthcare, not Obama cronies in the IRS" or "tax and spend liberal" or "the bankers need to be punished for their crimes and the big banks broken up." Face it, that's the only presidential future the GOP has, and its the only hope for 2014 electoral success.

That's the Gang of 8 Plan, which they announced at their press conference. Legalize everybody is Step One, enforcement trigger is Step Two, citizenship is Step Three.  The trigger is only for citizenship, they get the amnesty up front. Rubio has signed onto that general plan: Even if he walks away claiming the trigger isn't tough enough, he's still on record as being okay in principle with a plan that gives permanent residency to 11 million before any new enforcement happens.

185 Some of us actually vote for the person and not the party. Or worry about what party will be in control or how much worse it will be if we don't vote for someone we don't want to vote for.

Me, I've voted for the lesser of two evils for 40 f'ing years and in my estimation, it's a wash on whether things are better or not.

So from now on I'm voting for who I want in office and if there isn't someone who I want in office then I'm not voting in that office.

Simple, honest. It's called integrity. Berate me for handing elections to Democrats but it's not me that did it, it was the party and how it runs it's campaigns that brought the wrong person to the contest.

I see the mess we're in now yet I voted against Obama every time.

Didn't do a lot of good and made me feel like shit doing it.

Nothing that I've seen in these last few years has changed my mind about that.

The North's Uriminzokkiri Twitter and Flickr accounts stopped sending out content typical of that posted by the regime in Pyongyang, such as photos of North's leader Kim Jong Un meeting with military officials. Instead, a picture posted Thursday on the North's Flickr site shows Kim's face with a pig-like snout and a drawing of Mickey Mouse on his chest. Underneath, the text reads: "Threatening world peace with ICBMs and Nuclear weapons/Wasting money while his people starve to death." http://news.yahoo.com/nkoreas-twitter-account-hacked-amid-091726564.html

What can be done is 1.) secure the border asap. 2.) Require all employers to determine the status of their latino employees. Require them to report all illegals or if they choose to hire with out reporting bust the employers with heavy fines and jail sentences. Cheap labor benefits the employers, it does not benefit legal American workers. 4.) Give all illegal aliens 90 days to step into the light and be screened. Those who have committed crimes or those who have been on welfare are immediately processed for deportation. 5.) Those who are illegal but are gainfully employed and have no criminal past should be given a 2 year work visa and told to report to the back of the line for legal immigration. Not perfect but far more practical than anything I have seen proposed. Note: I said secure the border first. Ducking for cover.

255 The border has to be unpassable except by a massed assualt or military bombardment.

It's not cheap but it is doable and if done well will dry up the flow north to fewer than a percent of a percent.

THEN and only then do we discuss the ones who are already here.

Anyone who has lied about their identity and has used false papers gets fined and loses their right to vote. Anyone under a certain age gets a pass with a lower term of not being able to vote. All admittees have to have minimum English comprehension.

The path to citizenship is the same as any other immigrant. They must report every year  their address and job. Failure to register is a revocation of their license to stay and results in immediate deportation without appeal upon arrest.

Anyone found hiring illegals knowingly gets 5 years jail. Companies gets 1mil fine per violation.

Anyone trafficking illegals gets 10 years.

Anyone not registering will be fair game for "head hunters" Bounties on illegals found and identified 500$ per head.

I was referring to the employer checking whether you are entitled to work in this country.

Since the '80's, if you are hired for a job, you must submit documents to prove you are a citizen or are authorized to work in the country.

You then sign and date a statement to that effect and the companies must keep copies and produce them on request.

I didn't say they were enforcing the rules evenly. The mostly don't check and some companies don't put the hiree through e-verify to confirm.

The current laws have no guts to them, no funding and no personnel to make them work.

On something this important,  the negotiations should be seen on C-SPAN.  These are people dealing with our lives and our country.

Put Schumer on TV so everyone can see what an ass he is and how he refuses to do anything that will solve the problem.  And let's see McCain sucking up to the dems and acting like a complete doofus.

This should be in public, not behind closed doors.  And if they have to negotiate behind closed doors,  then they are Up To Something,  and it is NOT GOOD.

For starters, explain to them that they are not in fact American.

And give them a lift to the airport, where they can fly home.

That simple, really. That's how most of the rest of the world handles these cases.

333 For those interested, this has actually become an issue in Great Britain recently. They decided to order all people on disability to be reviewed by a doctor. 900,000 (out of a population of 65 million) decided to leave disability voluntarily instead of be reviewed. An equal number are expected to be requires to leave after the review. Immigration is also on the forefront, as the Torys leaked documents from the Blair era that plainly said "let's bring migrants in and get them hooked on welfare so we can forever be in power.". So now it's a big deal. There are now proposals being put forward to cap immigration in the low 10,000s per year until the economy recovers and the Muslims start assimilating. Additionally, other welfare reforms are being implemented (especially after some very public scandals recently involving outright welfare exploitation), with the new stated policy to be "it must always be financially better to work than be on the dole." So, for those of you interested, you cam check out British papers for more details. And yes, a lot of this is posturing by elites to try and beat back: 1) BNP 2) UKIP 3) The Scottish secession vote in 2014.

350 Marco Rubio is not to be trusted at all. And it's stupid to trust politicians to really have their hearts in the right place while they are doing things that seem to be rotten. They have proved that they are rotten. Also, on the left politicians are far more to the left than they seem. They talk "moderate" but act hard left. And on the right, politicians are far more to the left than they seem. They talk "severely conservative" but act squish or worse. They say "complete the danged fence" but push for amnesty. No way is someone who is acting crooked and pro-amnesty really on the side of good in any way.

If it'd been someone like Bill Clinton running again, then by all means go ahead and withhold your vote in protest.  But there's a huge difference between Bill and Barack.  When the latter gets through wrecking things, you tend to be relieved if you're able to clean enough things up to reach the level of mess at which the former would have left things.

379 Delurking... I was stationed at Ft Huachuca from 1999-2004. During that time, the illegals went from sneaking across the border to just walking across and setting up shop in the city Sierra Vista. I remember when some idiot set up water tanks for the illegals so they would become dehydrated while walking in the desert.

380 Mr Pinks immigration platform: Step one: declare both sides unable to come to a deal, announce a populist message pox on both parties message. Step two: declare the American people no longer trust the American government to enact the changes they need, as evidence they won't even enforce the laws they write. Step three: enforce the current fucking laws, deploy national guards men to the border with orders to shoot back, a standing order to detain anyone, and sign executive orders making any gov contractor caught employing an illegal to automatically lose their contract and be barred for five years. The entire time I'm doing this I would be bling congress for their heartless laws, the laws I'm enforcing. Omg congress makes every immigrant carry papers and if they don't have them they are detained! I would have my cake and eat it too.

383 Well, I didn't believe that BHO would be as bad as he is.

I knew he was a fake, a phony, a fraud. And being a Democrat would let all three out to play. Even so. McCain is a man you can't be sure what he'll actually do at any one moment.

One minute he's your buddy and the next he's calling the cops to have your car towed cause it's two inches over it's allotted space. THAT kind of unpredictable.

What I wasn't expecting was the amount of fakes that slipped into the House. Which is why the '10 vote went the way it did.

And they screwed the pooch anyway after 4 years in limbo.

they just can't help themselves. There's really only one party. The party for big government and control.

everything else is just maneuvering for advantage.

388 21 i don't understand why the GOP doesn't fight against amnesty to try win over blue collar guys, who we can get on our side, instead of backing amnesty when there's no chance in hell off it helping us win the Hispanic vote. - The mass media has spent fifty years making white working class people stink in the nostrils of the elites, including the political elites. That's why it's OK to favor black interests, Hispanic interests or any non-white interests, but if you are for fair treatment for whites, say by removing "affirmative action" - "racist!" ("Anti-racist" is code for "anti-white".) Republican politicians fundamentally don't like white people who are beneath them socially. They want a better base. They want a non-white base like the Democrats have. Mass immigration and forced integration is fatal for whites. It's turned Detroit and other cities into Hells. It's been driving "white flight" for fifty years, and you can't keep running forever. The history of black and other majority non-white countries with white minorities is bad, and sometimes genocidal as in Haiti. As whites go into a minority, they will be subjected to more and more hostilities by non-whites who dislike them. It is a betrayal of whites to go along with this. Republican politicians don't care. They like being an elite (for now) and they despise their white social inferiors so they are inclined to do things that harm them, and that's as far ahead as they have thought.

Enjoy what you can today. Don't put it off to another day. That day will eventually not come.

459 Still here. Have stayed up past my bed time just for you. 0400 is going to come pretty early in the morning. But you're worth it.

There's three options with Rubio.

1) Rubio was dumb/naive enough to hop into the filthy bathwater with Juan McLame and Linda Grhamnesty thinking he could change them. Or at least have an effect on their polished turd. But he had good intentions of trying to effect a decent policy.

2) It was a bullshit political ploy all along.

3) He finds out that it's not polling well and runs from the gang of douchebags.

461 Oh yeah, it gets worse. My 30 yo son spent his b-day in the jailhouse. GGE of the Moron Horde, NC Chapter. Por que? #1 wrecked Mrs. car in the Taco-Bell parking lot 3 weeks ago at 11:30 PM, but thankfully it was just an "accident" no "illicits". Whew!1!!11! TR- I am wearing Bi-focal contacts, and readers. Doc says Lasic is wasted on me, as my "shape" is still changing. Can't catch a break!
