Mark Obenshain (R) now up by 491 in Virginia AG results
— CAC

With all precincts reported, he is enjoying a 49.91 to 49.88 leadover Democrat Mark Herring. Provisional ballots are not all in, and there will certainly be a recount. But it's looking a lot better than when Gabe posted the last update.
I recall the undulations in Wisconsin in 2011 which eventually yielded a victorious Prosser.
I also recall them for a very disappointed Coleman in Minnesota.
#AOSHQDD will stay on it.

20 For those who keep harping on the Cuccinelli-as-SoCon excuse, he won independents by 9% and only lost the female vote by 9%. The issue wasn't social conservatism. It was the media.

I am thinking more and more seriously about a PAC that targets specific media figures for public mockery using guerrilla marketing. This needs to happen to prepare the battlespace for 2014 and 2016. People like Ace, or any of you regular commenters here would be much more adept at this than I am, so I'm thinking a crowd-sourced model for both funding and messaging. That seems like it would increase buy-in and visibility. Kind of a "Let's TP the Principal's House" feel.

And at what point do we have to bash candidates over the head and tell them that the message is, "The EXECUTIVE branch of government isn't responsible for making and passing laws; only for signing them once they pass both chambers of lower government"?

ESPECIALLY in these state-wide Governor's races.

Ladies, you want the right to kill your kid?  Governor can't do anything about taking that "right" away from you.

Gents  (and/or ladies), you want to screw each other in the privacy of your own home?  Have at it - Governor can't do anything about that, either.

=======

The problem is that after 40 some years of steady effort the left's control of public education and the media has finally succeeded in dumbing down the electorate to the point where critical thinking is virtually nonexistent and people decide en-mass to support whoever and whatever the "Cool Kids" think is "cool".

And the "Cool Kids" are the Democrats.

Most of the electorate has been reduced to a nation of stupid middle-schoolers.

And one should never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

73 I was about to put this in the last thread, when the stomp happened. I'm kind of disgusted by seeing Ace repeatedly post the Dem meme that Cuccinelli wants to use sodomy laws to persecute teh gays. He used those laws to put pedos in jail. It's the easiest thing in the world to counter, and even turn against them against McAuliffe, but it takes balls. Here's how you do it: You start by using one of McAuliffe's own commercials. I didn't see any of them, not being in Va., but I understand they were legion. Your commercial starts with one of his. (ominous music, menacing voiceover) AG Cuccinelli wants to enact laws outlawing gay people! Blah, blah. Let this run for about 5-7 seconds so that people think it's actually one of McAuliffe's ads. Use whatever ad he had that was most offensive/bombastic/widest run. After 7 seconds, pull the camera back so we see Cuccinelly standing beside a HDTV that's running the ad. Cuccinelli gestures over his shoulder at the TV. "I'm AG Ken Cuccinelli, and this is utter bull crap. I have no desire to interfere with the sex lives of consenting adults. As your AG, I used the laws in question to arrest and prosecute (whatever the number is, 2 dozen, 100, 500, whatever) dangerous pedophiles, including (use most egregious example, say, Joe Blow who forcibly sodomized a 4 year old boy in Richmond last year). My opponent opposes those laws, so I simply wonder which of those (whatever number) pedophiles he wants released to prey on Virginia's innocent children? I think Virginia voters deserve to know. I'm Ken Cucchelli and I approved this message" When your opponent is lying about you, you punch him in the fucking teeth with it! Then you turn it back on him. How damn hard is that? We could win all over if our candidates had the fucking stones to stand toe-to toe with Dem lies. Instead for some insane reason Rs seem determined to take the high road. Well, we've been doing that and the Dems always get to Scotland 'afore us.

Go a bit easy on them, they are mourning.  Remember, the Democrats are always diabolically brilliant, the Republicans are always abysmally stupid; the Democrats win every race through cheating, and the Republicans always lose every race because they were robbed.  The Democrats are ten feet tall, strong as oxen, and never infight with one another while the Republicans are puny, weak, and are always being betrayed by their leadership.

That people here are mourning, raging, and despairing?  Absolutely!  That those little comparisons of mine are caricatures of arguments that people make here (I exaggerated for effect)?  Certainly.  That politicians act like politicians and do what they think will get them and their priorities ahead and will take revenge for slighted egos?  As it has ever been and shall ever be.

That this will also pass?  Yep.

87 OT:  This from drudge.  I thought this was interesting.

STOCKHOLM (AP) -- You expect movie ratings to tell you whether a film contains nudity, sex, profanity or violence. Now movie theaters in equality-minded Sweden are introducing a new rating to highlight gender bias, or rather the absence of it.

To get an "A" rating, a movie must pass the so-called Bechdel test, which means it must have at least two named female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man.

"The entire `Lord of the Rings' trilogy, all `Star Wars' movies, `The Social Network,' `Pulp Fiction' and all but one of the `Harry Potter' movies fail this test," said Ellen Tejle, the director of Bio Rio, an art-house movie theater in Stockholm's trendy Sodermalm district.

Yes, the Harry Potter movies, which star Hermione Granger, possibly one of the most self-possessed, intelligent, motivated and self-assured female characters in all of fiction, are horrifically gender biased. Let's not even mention Prof. McGonagall. Oh and then there's Luna who may be the strongest character of the whole bunch. Let us also not bother to mention that the reason they are talking about men so much is that the Big Bad is a guy. Or that the secondary Big Bad is a woman who is killed by another woman. But yeah. The HP movies are sooooooooo misogynistic Serious You Guys. 145 1000 vote lead is nothing the dem machine can't overcome. Read about the WA state gov election of 2004. After the first count, the R had a ~1,000 vote lead. There were two subsequent recounts. In each one they "found" more ballots until the D won. Later investigations and FOIA requests found more fraudulent absentee votes than the final margin of victory. What did WA do in response? All mail in voting. In the rematch election of 2008, the D's cooked up a Hugo's lawsuit that allowed them to subpoena and depose the R candidate just a few days before the election. The lawsuit was dropped immediately after the D won the election.
