Mark Pryor's New Ad: Jesus Save Me
— Ace

I'm angry about this ad. Not just because it's an attempt by a Democrat to invoke the name of God Himself to win an election.

But because of the predictable reaction to it by the determined, angry secularists of the New Class: The reaction will be nothing at all.

When Republicans play the Culture Card, the New Class is outraged. They are made filthy-angry by the injection of religion and tribal loyalty into what they feel should be a decision made upon the bases of reason and empathy and For Science.

But when a Democrat does it, they just nod approvingly, and maybe giggle: Well if that what it takes to move the Rubes...

As with any of the alleged principles of the Progressive Left, Fen's Law applies: They believe none of the things they say they believe. The only thing they actually believe in is that Progressives should rule the world, and they may use any tactic, including resorting to Nasty Jesus Talk, to achieve this long-dreamed goal.

It shouldn't be overlooked that this is a desperation move. Mark Pryor is calling upon the Power of God because it's looking like that's the only power in the universe sufficient to spare him an electoral drubbing. Hit Allah's link for Sean Trende's analysis of Democrats in trouble, generally; and check out the bio of Pryor's Republican opponent, Tom Cotton. Cotton's a Harvard lawyer who signed up in Army and got his officer commission so that he could kill terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Not to slight JAG officers, but I would point out here that Cotton did not serve as a JAG; he served as a front-line soldier leading troops on the battlefield.

As an infantry officer and platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Division, he was deployed to Baghdad as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom on May 19, 2006. In Iraq, Cotton was responsible for a 41 man air assault infantry platoon in the 506th Infantry Regiment, and planned and led daily combat patrols. He completed his first combat tour in Iraq on November 20, 2006, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and various campaign/service medals.

...

Following his deployment in Iraq, Cotton was assigned as a platoon leader at The Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery,[9] where he was responsible for conducting military honor funerals for veterans. In 2008, he volunteered to return to combat duty, was promoted to Captain on August 1, 2008, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on October 15, 2008. In Afghanistan, Cotton was assigned to Laghman Province, just north of Tora Bora in eastern Afghanistan. He was assigned duty as the operations officer of a Provincial Reconstruction Team, where he planned and resourced daily counter-insurgency and reconstruction operations for an 83-member joint and interagency team.

I hope this isn't a violation, but God just cc'd me on an email to Mark Pryor. He writes, "I can move mountains, but even I can't get your fat dumper over 40% in the election. Y'all on your own."

It's such a parody and so transparently false that it's going to do Pryor even more damage. It shows that the Dems have no idea how to stop their collapse.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I know it doesn't fit the narrative but my brother was a Special Forces JAG officer during the first Iraq war and led men on the battlefield.  Not all JAGs are tarred with Lindsey Graham's brush.

113 Via Wiki, he sounds like he's an Evangelical Christian. Religious views Pryor is Christian. He was featured in the 2008 Bill Maher documentary Religulous, in which he tells Maher that he could believe in Young Earth creationism, yet he also sees evolution as a feasible idea. He states at the beginning of the interview that he is an Evangelical Christian. He also states that he believes in the Rapture, and that "You don't need to pass an IQ test to be in the Senate". According to author Jeff Sharlet, Pryor is affiliated with a political organization called the Family. Sharlet quoted Pryor as stating that through the Family he "had learned that the separation of church and state was a sort of secular exaggeration" and that "Jesus did not come to bring peace. Jesus came to take over."

Their response: "Well, everybody knows the Democrats are just doing it to win votes. They don't really believe it." And oddly enough this was apparently o.k. as long as it was in a good cause. I cannot make any judgement about Mark Pryor's faith but it would have been better had he just said, "I made a mistake. 3) He's a war hero, from a family of war heros

4) He's very close with Demint (I know, Flake, Toomey, Rubio, sigh) but except for specific issues they're pretty good overall still.

5) Harvard educated lawyer, top of his class

6) After paying off his school debt clerking for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, he VOLUNTEERED to go FIGHT

7) Went to Claremont Institute

Spotted this over at NRO -

An analysis of women in China who had abortions (something that China has had lots of due to the One Child policy) discovered that those women had increased occurrances of breast cancer.  And the more abortions a woman had, the more likely it was that she also developed cancer.

Somehow I don't think that this is going to get a mention in the evening news.

305 In Pryor's defense: Despite voting for Obama's atheistic/nihilistic policies about 80% of the time in the Senate, he apparently is telling the truth about being a Christian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Pryor#Religious_views "Pryor is Christian.[23] He was featured in the 2008 Bill Maher documentary Religulous, in which he tells Maher that he could believe in Young Earth creationism,[24] yet he also sees evolution as a feasible idea.[25] He states at the beginning of the interview that he is an Evangelical Christian. He also states that he believes in the Rapture, and that "You don't need to pass an IQ test to be in the Senate".[26] According to author Jeff Sharlet, Pryor is affiliated with a political organization called the Family. Sharlet quoted Pryor as stating that through the Family he "had learned that the separation of church and state was a sort of secular exaggeration" and that "Jesus did not come to bring peace. Jesus came to take over."[27]" ----- How he squares those beliefs with his devotion to the Democratic creeds is anyone's guess.

@291 I used to work in the area of breast cancer research. It's long been known that a woman having her first child in her mid- to late 30s significantly increases the risk that she will develop an early onset breast cancer. The risk is averted by carrying a child to term in one's 20s. I'd have to see the numbers, but I suspect that the women who are having numerous abortions are also deferring childbearing, which would explain at least some of the increase.

----------------

Remember that the data comes from China, which had the One Child policy.  So I would expect that the abortions are largely either -

1.)  The mother already had a child and got pregnant, or

2.)  The mother found out that the fetus was female and aborted her as a result.

Further, as China is a non-Western nation, I suspect that women there didn't begin intentionally delaying childbirth until recently.  And you'd probably need to ignore the most recent abortions (as it otherwise wouldn't have given enough time for breast cancer to develop and be discovered).  So while I haven't looked at the data, I'd be surprised if many of the women in question had their only child after the age of 30.

This is from the sidebar article by Podhoretz:

"If the president has been reduced to defiant statements that heÂ’s not going to do something no one expects him to do, and that no one expects will happen, heÂ’s in worse shape than even Ted Cruz hopes."

This reinforces the underlying message in Pryor's ad.  They are frightened.  There is polling out there both formal and informal (such as constituent e-mails, letters, phone calls, and office visits) that predict a great politician-swallowing abyss is opening up.  The cheerleading by Obama and the talking points by Wasserman-Schultz are not changing reality and they actually know the full extent of the ObamaCare problem.

While I do not enjoy being along for the ride, I do enjoy looking at the smug asses who were so cock-sure of themselves before and now have to face failure head-on.

OK, 'rons, I'm out.  I hope to have a Marilyn Monroe story for tomorrow, but I've got early meetings, so I may not be able to post it on the morning thread.

Stay safe.

342 Didn't Heinlein say something about how a good confidence man will fleece the mark like the Good Shepard will shear sheep? Repeatedly.

The sheep feels better once the weight of all that wool has been taken from it's shoulders. The mark feels good for having been defrauded when the fraudster does it correctly.

Vote Democrat, it's the only way to feel good about yourself.

344 "And an interesting case... by standing around his car, they are impeding his freedom of Movement, which could be construed as false imprisonment. "

For me, today's stunner was the 'quiet title" article linked by Drudge. Some dude entered a house in Ohio, changed the locks, and refused to leave. The homeowners returned, couldn't gain entry, and are now going through the courts to get the a-hole out. There's probably more to the story then reported, but still, that wouldn't work out too well in NC.

348 Now wouldn't it be a laugh if the internet giant who offered to build the Obamacare website was Amazon?

Actually, it was a top tier Nigerian firm that makes its money distributing lottery winnings and the bank accounts of deceased cabinet members...

263: "All ya'll" of "ya'll all" generally refers to unanimity of a group. That it is, if someone say asks if "Ya'll all" are doing something, he's asking if every single one, 100% of the group is going to do what he asking about.

In the south, "you" is singular. The plural is 'ya'll', and 'all' can be used with it just like with you. A non-southerner might say "you all" or "all of you" to refer to the same unanimity condition.

I grew up with this of course, but I still can't see why this you/ya'll business trips up so many non-Southerners.

Between the Texas drawl and the Cajun-isms, I understood about every third word he said. The best was the time I asked him what in the hell a "ratch ear" was. I thought it was some sort of machine part. He laughed his ass off, wiped his glasses and said "Yankee boy, when I tell you to put somethin' down ratch ear, you put it down ratch ear!"

He was pollinÂ’ good last May as he made his way

To a mid-term election eve

Gonna keep that seat that his Daddy gave him

Thinkin that the rubes would just believe

That they didnÂ’t mind payinÂ’ for their neighborÂ’s health care, sayinÂ’

“Yeah we love Obama Care!”

ItÂ’d be a long hard year.

He had voted just fine down the party line

Sayin’ yes to “deem and pass”

‘Fore he knew it, he was trailin’ with the voters, who were wailin’

“Kick him out on his fat ass.”

He saw his Senate seat  flash in front of his eyes.

And he barely had time to make

A commercial so corny even his own Mommy

Said “Mark, that kinda seems fake”

Jesus take the polls

Take them from my hand

‘Cause I can’t do this on my own.

I donÂ’t want to let go

This is all that I know

DonÂ’t want to have to work on K Street

Jesus take the polls

361 "Professional liberals are too arrogant to compromise. In my experience, they  were also very unpleasant people on a personal level. Behind their slogans about saving the world and sharing the wealth with the common man lurked a nasty hunger for power. They'd double-cross their own mothers to get it or keep it."

- Harry S Truman, from a 1970 interview with Thomas Fleming.

We just need to take His Word for it; hence, 'Him'.  That is, unless you've seen or spoken to Him personally, of course--maybe from that high tower from which you gaze upon antlike humanity, whom you seem to view as unenlightened inferiors.

Humility. Ever heard of it?

367 As an Arkansas Republican I do not appreciate the negative comments about Gov. Huckabee. He was an excellent governor. As for Pryor he is acting like the usual modern Arkansas Democrat. He votes straight liberal for four years. Then that variety tries to cover its tracks for the last two years of the term. This video is a disgraceful part of this effort. They will stoop to anything.

369 For the record, no Southerner ever uses "ya'll" as singular. That's a myth propagated by Hollywood actors playing dumb Southern hicks. What confuses people is when "ya'll" is used to a single person, such as my asking a buddy "How ya'll doing?". I'm not asking about him singularly, I'm asking about him as his family (or perhaps the group he might work with, depending on the context). Posted by: publius(NotBreitbartPublius) at December 04, 2013 01:57 PM (M5Os+) Very good point. That's always annoyed me when yankees screw that up trying to be all folksy.

373 Oh, and how DARE he invoke God and the Bible when his vote for Obamacare meant covering abortions?! He makes me sick and I think he's the type of person Jesus was referring to when He said "I spit you out of My mouth".

BTW, sounds like Cotton ROCKS! I'd love to have another Ivy League lawyer who's Tea Party! Just like Cruz, and with combat experience. Doesn't get any better.
