Mary Landrieu Begins Running Anti-Obamacare Ad
— Ace

From @rdbrewer4 in the sidebar.

Now, understand, she's not calling for the repeal of Obamacare, certainly. She's trying to "fix" it.

But her ad begins like an ad you'd expect from a Republican -- alarming news reports of hundreds of thousands of people having their coverage cancelled by Obamacare.

It ends with an admonition to Obama: "You made this promise, you should keep it."

The ad of course is dishonest. It's fakey-fake triangulation, as Landrieu pretends to run against Obamacare. You'd almost think she was the anti-Obamacare Republican candidate in the race.

But it is something to think about: In many states around the country, as we approach 2014, we'll be seeing Republicans running anti-Obamacare ads, and their Democratic opponents running anti-Obamacare ads, too.

And what exactly will that do to public opinion? I don't know of many previous progressive/conservative disputes in which the representatives of both camps condemned a major law. The airwaves will be full of condemnations of Obamacare, and virtually no one speaking up in favor of it.

They're conditioned from ova to think this crap will work. If someone smarter than them lays it out in front of them and says it'll work, they believe it. No detail therein will give them a moment's pause. The problem is there are any number of people smarter than them who also believe in the cause. They alter their beliefs and arguments to suit the moment. People like Krugman are at the top of this list. People like this KNOW it won't work, but they shut that part of their brain off. 145 Some of the Democrats elected in 2010 or 2012 or those running for the first time in 2014 may be able to run away from ObamaCare, but virtually all of those who were in Congress at the time of passage voted for it - the Senate Democrats were 100% behind it.

Landrieu should be cast not only as a poor Senator and a liar, but as one who sold her constituents  and the country out for some perks for Lousisiana to enhance her own rep.  She should not be allowed to get away with any sort of opposition to ObamaCare.

But let's face it:  voters who will even consider Democrats after five years of Obama are pretty doggone stupid.  They can be persuaded of almost anything if it is wrapped in shiny paper with a sparkly bow.

They are as long as the MacGuffin (or however you spell it) hasn't been attained. Liberals are great at running on promises, mostly free and painless shit, but they don't do nearly as well once their plans are enacted. They can make as many ads as they want but people aren't stupid when it comes to their wallets and their health. In September of 2010 Senate Republicans brought a bill to the floor that would have gotten rid of the Grandfather Clause. Every single Dem, including Landrieu, Hagen, Sheehan and other endangered Dems voted against it.

220 Don't underestimate Mary Landrieu.  She's from a powerful New Orleans political family which has held various offices for decades, and was smart enough to marry into a largely conservative family from north Louisiana in Duck Dynasty country.  Her brother, Mitch, is mayor of New Orleans, and has been shoring up her political base from that office.  He's also eying the Governor's office after Bobby Jindal leaves, so there is more at stake for their political patorns than just Mary's Senatorship.  I therefore expect they will fight especially dirty on Mary's behalf, and she'll be much harder to beat than the rest of the country believes.
