McClatchy: Civil war on the left [Purp]
— Open Blogger

Speaking "Truth to Power", McClatchy peels away the happy talk BS and reports on something I've been saying for a while now -- OFA is essentially Obama's attempt to hijack whatever remains of the traditional Democrat party.

Obama’s new group, [PA: it ain't really "new", its the same old OFA] Organizing for Action, will focus on his policy agenda – not on electing Democratic candidates – by raising unlimited amounts of cash and accessing the president’s secret list of 20 million supporters, volunteers and donors.

The operation wonÂ’t share money, resources or the priceless Obama email list with the Democratic National Committee or campaign committees that help elect members of Congress, governors and legislators. And it has no plans to coordinate efforts, leading some Democrats to worry that it will take money and manpower away from the party as it heads into the 2014 elections for control of Congress.

If they'd had a couple of firing neurons to rub together, this whole cult of personality thing Obama's been working should have been setting off alarm bells among party oriented Dems. Obama is a political creature of a stripe the Dems have never really encountered before in their midst and they assumed he was one of the hive. That was a huge mistake in judgment. Kerry, Hillary, Mondale, Billy Jeff, etc WERE of the hive, this dude, not so much.
Kiss the ring baby, kiss the ring.

3 What's interesting is McClatchy had been one of the most strident Obama knob polishers previously.  I wonder who Obama pissed off?

Be interesting to see what the rest of the LSM does with this.  I'm betting it gets black holed unless some prominent Dems start to go off reservation and grouse publicly.

Every DVD burner ever made had dual-layer capability, though some needed firmware updates to get it working right. But it was always part of the spec, just as dual-layer playback is part of the original DVD spec and some of the early players couldn't do it smoothly. Terminator 2 was the big test item for a long time until dual-layer titles became common.

Re-writable optical discs have been a non-starter. The WORM (write once, read many) disc are just too cheap to bother with anything else.

The dual-layer discs can be had for cheap nowadays if you keep an eye out. A while back Frys had spindles of 50 for $10. It took a few years but good sales turn up regularly now. It's the next best thing to burning Blu-rays if you need to have them accessible by other people who are unlikely to have BD-ROM reading ability.

The price is good if you keep on eye on places like Newegg for sales. I recently stocked up on BD-ROM blanks through Newegg deals. I mainly use them to send collections of video files. The dual-layer DVDs are the next best thing, though it isn't unusual for a set of HD video files to be too large for a single DL DVD.

Sometimes, if there is a lot of stuff to send and I factor the labor, it's still simpler to just wait for a good deal on an external drive and send that loaded up with content. TigerDirect had a 1 TB USB 3.0 external yesterday for about $40 after rebate.

Turns out Clinton wasn't the first black president after all, despite what Toni Morrison thought. Having the skin seems to have a hypnotic effect on certain portions of the electorate, even though the man wearing has damned little in common with them in terms of his actual life experience.

For all the celebration of MLK,Jr the left leaning American has little comprehension of what was meant by the 'content of their character.' If they did, Obama would never have won a local election, never mind reach national office.

12 The prospect of Democrats turning the 'racist' weapon on each other is giving me a schdenboner. They've doomed my country, so I'm looking forward to their self immolation. Unfortunately what will remain will be far worse than it's precursors, who were bad enough, but they and their lickspittles in the press and academe have irrevocably set us opon this path. IOW we be screwed, break out the popcorn and enjoy the burning. Glad I have no children.

16 I just was reading the OFA privacy policy statement...

...there's a curious escape clause in there that nullifies all the lofty shit in the rest of the thing essentially saying OFA can do whatever the fuck it wants with you personal data.  They could sell it to sex slave traders, drug dealers, spammers, Nigerian scammers, etc.

I think Obama plans to shakedown all the other Dems who'd like access to that data.  Sure, you can have it, but you're gonna have to "show me some respect" first.

It's how to get around the two-term limit.  Do it right and he doesn't need to keep the office.

18 How about fdr? There seems to be a lot of parallels there. fdr killed the northern wing of the party for 60 years. Both had nothing but ego, wind, and socialism to offer, although fdr captured the middle and "reassured" the country as he ran it over the cliff. He also had the war. tfg can't seem to talk to anyone but the choir, and without a great evil like hitler to justify his intrusiveness, he is more limited and less able to sell the the shit sandwich.

23 So, thinking about fdr, he couldn't give up the power once he had it. too big an ego and to egocentric to think anyone else could handle "his" job. what about tfg? he has the ego, but if he can't stay in office (and really after the past 5 years i think anything is possible) what will he do? it will have to be bigger and more lucrative than his current gig (although apparently that is only part time)?

Posted by: Endeavor to Persevere at April 02, 2013 02:29 AM (zZJJp)

24 Michelle would burn through their $10M savings within a year without the govt picking up the tab, and the presidential retirement ain't nearly enough to support the lifestyle to which they've become accustom on an ongoing basis

He NEEDS a shakedown racket like OFA to support his extravagance.

28 Guys,  Michelle is in Chicago today making a policy appearance on behalf of the troubled yoots who need more opportunitie "to reach their full potential."

Speculation is that she is going to run for the Senate.

Cassandra that I am,  I think she is going to run for the big enchilada.

The howling about OFA is because various potential candidates (Hillary and Cuomo) have suddenly realized what's going on.

33 I've always thought that Obama knew his legacy was secured the day he was elected in 2008. The rest is just icing on the cake. OFA is meant (IMO) to perpetuate his agenda once he's gone. Although I don't think it'll be very effective for much other than a giant slush fund for him to plunder and use for bribe money.

Posted by: volfan at April 02, 2013 03:41 AM (RTb48)

34 Oh, and as for Michelle running for the Senate? If she did run ala Hillary she'd probably win. But she strikes me as one that enjoys the trappings of her husband's office but not too inclined to put in the sweat to achieve it herself. IOW's I think she's lazy. Anything could happen though.

38 And for of these institutional advantages the left have created like the Berlin Wall around Obama's reputation, he still knows what a useless fraud he is. Like virtually everyone with daddy-abandonment issues, (and his was a double dose, complete with racial abandonment issues to boot) Obama fundamentally lacks self-esteem. This is why he's such a narcissist, and why he needs the constant strokes that come with being the center of attention in order to feel OK about himself, if only for awhile. And then right away he's off injecting himself into some other inappropriate situation again, like some kind of Munchhausen on meth, trying to get in the middle of things so his adoring fans will slobber all over him. But the truth is always just beneath the surface of his psyche: he knows that despite his shucking and jiving and too-cool-for-school persona he tries to throw at us to show I'm good, I'm cool, no matter what, the real truth is that he is the rigged affirmative action byproduct of a political machine who got to where he is because still more rich, racist whiteys decided it was time we had a black president. And did they ever find their man: a bright, clean cut, white acting socialist that is every Chris Matthews' dream boy. Inside, where it really matters, whether you lay your head down in a one-bedroom efficiency or the White House, he knows he's not in fact good enough (he's actually a lazy slacker who didn't earn his own way), that he isn't smart enough (he's an academic fraud), he isn't a good athlete (again, a fraud with a fake media persona), that he didn't do this (funny how the truth just flies out of our mouths sometimes). And that our disapproval has nothing to do with racism, nothing to do with fairness, nothing to do with meanness, but rather everything to do with the fact that we see right through him and know that he's a lying little shit cuts right to the bone with people like him. And that, ladies and gents, is why he constantly seeks what he can never have, approval from those who know him best, just like back in the day.

I see sinister intent, but what the hell, I hope it wipes the Democrat party out like a candle blown out at the end of the night in the process of trying to establish the new party, Socialism II.

This is something that I was wondering about when everyone on the left (and some on the right) were screaming that the Republican Party was dead: is the love affair the media has Obama transferable to the non-Obama, or will the media united front behind Obama split apart as one group follows candidate A, another follows candidate B, and so on?

The only thing I can think of is that the united front will split.  There will be too many egos involved to get in line like this again, for one.  And two, nations that have had personality cult leaders that I can think of (USSR and PRC) had the party apparatus do all it could do to remove the cult of personality thing from the party, such as after the death of Stalin and Mao no one ever got that sort of thing going again.*

My bet is that a lot of Democrats are waiting this one out with smiles on their faces and resolving that this nonsense won't ever happen again.

*Revere after the guy is dead?  Certainly, he can't do anything at that point, but let his successor(s) build a cult of personality?  No way, not a chance.

41 Cliff Notes Summary:

Narcissistic liberals are shocked to find that the narcissistic demi-god they put into power is really a ......... narcissistic demi-god.

Conclusion: Liberalism is a mental illness born out of an immature cultivation of victimization, sentimentalism, and hate.

42 The fact that anyone is surprised by this, indicates that there are a lot of clueless people out there. Audacious, mendacious, self absorbed and ruthless...everything he's done has betrayed this from day one - to anyone who chose to pay the smallest amount of attention.

Posted by: Ed Gibbon at April 02, 2013 05:58 AM (4eNxd)

43 Radical liberalism has gone far as it can with the Dem Party tainted with it's crony supporters and the endless compromises diluting and hindering the agenda. Now it's time to dispense with them to reveal the real agenda. Watch for the rise of the Socialist Party. The 50% plus 1 strategy was demonstrated in the 2012 elections with Obama winning 50.5% of the vote. There are now more than enough voters receiving handouts to form a solid voting block. That voting block will see any action to eliminate or reduce those handouts as a direct threat upon their interest in receiving said handouts. The longer they depend upon the handouts, the less they believe in themselves to be self sustaining, a permanent victim class of have-nots versus haves. Mob rule has overtaken self governance. This was a feature in Obama's policy agenda, not a bug. Look for continued poverty inducing (job killing) actions like the Keystone Pipeline, ObamaCare, the EPA instituting 15% ethanol content, etc. This is all about power, screw the little people.

51 Very late, but McClatchy was always a DNC company, as far as their allegiances, so there's your angle. They feel pushed out, and their political allies do. They were also, it was my impression, Clintonites. Still some resentment there, so that may play a part. OFA may actually be an Achilles' Heel, despite their uber-organization and uber-competence at organizing, given long experience. Or maybe the long march is too far along for that to really matter.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith's Other Mobile[/i][/b][/s] at April 02, 2013 12:28 PM (bxiXv)

52 What is the long-term function of this organization? Himself is term-limited out in 2016. Herself could run, but are they really egomaniacal enough to think that she could win? She could "prep" for it by running for the Senate in 2014, but it would have to be from Illinois. That would mean getting Dick Durbin to step aside. And I don't think she'd win. Otherwise, they have to cede the Presidency to someone else. If a Republican wins, then 2020 becomes the target; but if a Democrat wins, they've ceded leadership of the party. It's very hard to come back from that. Grant couldn't do it; neither could Teddy Roosevelt. I think they might just be crazy enough to run Michelle in 2016.
