Here's one that's always good for 200 comments: Major studies are going to wrap up soon which may finally resolve the Calories/Carbs question.
John Ekdahl had a good response to BuzzFeed's daily hit whoring: No, the NRA isn't building a creepy turnkey police state datafile like the NSA has.
An old post by Elmore Leonard on his rules for writing.
He hates Adverbs.
Purple Avenger had a good post on Camille Paglia, knocking Anthony Weiner as a sexual basket case and demanding someone tell her just what it is exactly that Hillary Clinton ever accomplished.

Those costs include about $500,000 that Herrera says San Francisco spent on medical care, housing and other aid for 20 people shipped here in a practice sometimes called Greyhound therapy.
... San Francisco has some balls. They sent hundreds to Antelope, Oregon back in the 1980's .. to join the followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh by giving the homeless one-way tickets.

The real purpose to government benefits is buying votes, paying off cronies, and ensuring employment and funding for gummint drones. It's for gummint purposes, not anyone else's.

The food stamp requirements exempt a house and a car, placing no caps on value. So, you could own a plush multi-million dollar crib and drive a new Mercedes and not break that part of the restrictions.
There are explicit and fairly tight lmitations on bank/brokerage account value, investment income and such.
Everything explicitly mention as restricted is traceable with paper trail.
The law says nothing about actual green money cash in duffels and mattresses, rare stamp/coin collections, art collections.
Basically, if you had a Walter White situation with a pallet full of cash money and kept your bank/brokerage/bond holding under about $4,000 you could legally get food stamps while owning a lux car and McMansion.

Star Trek actor Michael Dorn tells the Huffington Post that there was actual interest in a Captain Worf show last year, although it was put on hold because of Star Trek Into Darkness:
"Last year there was interest and I talked to a couple producers and we actually had pitch meeting with Paramount and CBS," Dorn said. "Business things got in the way in terms of the JJ Abrams movie coming out and CBS/Paramount and their relationship with JJ Abrams. I don't think they wanted to step on his toes by putting a new series on, but it's not dead yet. I've finished the script and hopefully someone will take a look at this and say we can do this."

Two rules:
1 - eat less (you don't really need that mid-morning bagel, although I cut back much more)
2 - more physical activity (being able to walk to and from work, at a minimum 45 minutes each day helped; I eventually pushed it to over an hour each way)
3 - skip the evening meal and have some alcohol (while taking that long walk home, and no I am serious; at least, it worked for me)
although I did this in 2008, before the coronation of King Barky, so at that time I had some hope about this and that (a blonde in particular), if knowing that helps

I was pretty fat for most of my life, did the eat better and exercise shit on and off for years. Never worked. I finally sucked it up and went on the anorexic diet for about half a year. Lost 60 pounds. That was about 5 years ago, and now I eat whatever I want, just try to not overdo it too often. And after I lost the weight I found exercise a hell of a lot easier. Running two miles used to leave me gasping for air, now I do about 30 miles a week no problem. I'm back to eating like a fat guy, but I don't look like it.

Damn, that's too bad. Condolences.
As for coyotes, they are everywhere. Extremely adaptable, smart, prolific and good at hiding. I've seen photos of coyotes in Dolores Park in the heart of incredibly crowded urban San Francisco.
And they are major predators of domestic cats, unfortunately. Dogs will chase cats, often for fun. Coyotes *hunt* cats for meals, and will do things dogs typically don't do, such as quietly lie in wait for an ambush.
One real problem in suburbia is that it takes a bigger round than you would think to put down a nuisance coyote on the first shot. Big enough to cause consternation among neighbors who freak out at any discharge of a gun nearby. You may want to speak to your local bowhunting contingent about that matter.

We are back from a road trip to New Orleans, took one of the twin daughters to start her freshman year at Tulane. My wife's best friend warned us that when they dropped their daughter off at college a few years back, they said their goodbyes, walked to the car, mom drove, dad cried for the five hour drive home. I figured it would be tough to say good bye but didn't realize how tough. We had the other daughter and my wife's sister with us, which kept me from a five hour cry. I just felt like it.
Saturday we head to Charlottesville for the other daughter's move in at UVA.
No regrets nor complaints. It's a first world problem. But the house will be way too quiet come Sunday.

In an open letter to Paul Krugman, UCLA economics professor Roger Farmer alleges that Krugman stole his ideas and repackaged them in his New York Times columns.
"Perhaps you have read some of my recent work: Perhaps not. I infer that you may be aware of it since your columns often select themes that closely mirror my writings, usually a day or two after they are circulated. Perhaps that is due to the coincidence fairy," writes Farmer.

I've lost 60 lbs so far this year by cutting back on carbs, especially the bread-rice-potato-type carbs. I think it's a matter of reducing both calories and carbs. If you cut back on bread and potatoes, it's easy to cut down on calories. And for me, eating bread and bakery stuff makes me crave more bead and cupcakes, so it's easier to just cut it out altogether. I eat all the meat, nuts, vegetables, eggs, and fats I want, and I don't get hungry nearly as often as I did before I started the low-carb diet.
Exercise is important, but diet is the key to weight loss. You get strong in the gym; you get skinny in the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Drudge links to Daily Mail with an article 'Why isn't the Earth warming like scientists said it would?' which wonders what has changed that is preventing the warming-- never hitting on the primary truth that the predictions of warming were the bullshit to begin with. There's no need to find an explanation further than the science was never science.

Model Makers: We're going to need LOTS of grants to work this all out.

Politicians: Denier! Kill the Heretic!
Skeptic: So, how does your model account for clouds and water vapor?
Model Makers: Shut up. I'll sue you!! I'll sue you!!
Nature: Hey, guys, um, I'm not warming in the last 15 years...
Model Makers, Politicans: Shut up! Denier! Heretic! Burn the Witch!
Skeptic: Told ya so.

Oh, jeez, Gingy, I once worked at art show at the Javitz in NY. All that time on the concrete floors is brutal. If you are still reading, go sit on the edge of the bathtub, stick your bare feet in.
