Midday Open Thread
— DrewM

Little bit of content for you...Chris Christie wants you to know he didn't flip on giving in-state tuition to illegals (He calls it "tuition equality". Seriously, that's what he said.). He supports it, just not the version the NJ legislature passed.

So to sum up...don't think Christie is flipping on an immigration issue to win over GOP primary voters. No, he's proudly to the left of Mitt Romney on in-state tuition for illegals.

Glad I could help clear that up.

Related: The Stupid Party(tm) is stupid.

Personnel is policy. Boehner hiring McCain's staffer? They are going to do this thing no matter what you say. They got donors to please and a base to replace.

34 I was a student in the US and I had to pay the fucking out-of-state tuition for 4 years.  It was more than double the in-state rate.  Any time I see in-state tuition stuff for illegals or DREAM act bullshit, my rage reactor goes to 105% (possible, but not recommended).  If NC passes in-state for illegals, I'm going to file a claim to get a refund back from NC State for all the extra money they got from me.

Yeah, that. I can't follow the logic behind that move and Christie, whatever his many faults, is a former (and very successful) prosecutor, possessed of a strongly logical mind. I'm thinking maybe it's personal.  He and Cuomo are about the same age, probably run in the same Northeastern elite social circles. Their kids go to the same schools.  Their wives show up at the same charity balls.  And, of course, they share nearly identical political beliefs.  Cuomo is just more open about his.

78 How is this an issue?  I thought States could define residency, but were not allowed to use citizenship status as a factor in residency determination - per DHS (maybe the SCOTUS).  If they present documentation proving residency, they should be eligible for in-state tuition.

That documentation should immediately be forwarded to law enforcement to pick them up for deportation - they can work on their admittance essay while in the lockup.  If they provide any job related material as proof-of-residency, then that should go straight to the AG for prosecution of their employer (although that might hamper the little darlings ability to get a good reference letter).

118 "I do not get the in-state tuition for illegals thing." ------------------------------- In-state tuition has nothing to do with citizenship. It has to do with residency. The idea is that you get the cut if you have been living in the state and paying state income, property, or sales taxes. Thus, say, a French kid whose daddy runs a restaurant in Atlanta may reasonably qualify for in-state tuition, even if he is not a citizen. ILLEGAL aliens, of course, should not be at the school in the first place. They should be deported.

131 A little afternoon smile.. a suspect armed with a handgun and wearing a ski mask, entered a Ville Platte, LA home on Sunday. The suspect confronted a male visitor to the home, held a gun to his head and demanded money. The residents of the home refused. ThatÂ’s when the suspect tried to execute his hostage. Fortunately, for some reason, the gun did not fire. At that point, and details are still a little fuzzy, one of the residents of the home gained control of the gun and got it working. By working I mean they shot the suspect several times in the chest with his own gun. Police arrived to find the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Malcolm Wilson, dead on the kitchen floor. Right when Malcolm was turning his life around too. So sad.

167 157 I'm volunteering at a local library's genealogy department, translating old Italian documents (birth records, service records, obituaries and stuff like that) for them (I'm fairly proficient in la lingua) and through my work there I just met a cousin I never knew I had. Her great grandmother was my great-great grandmother.

How cool! We've lived within 20 miles of each other for years and years and we just met.

168 remember obama's completely stupid "slurpee" analogy when it came to the economy?  that republicans wrecked the "car" (that is, the economy) by driving it into a ditch, and he and the other dems had rolled up their sleeves and were down in the mud trying to get the "car" back on the road, and all republicans would do was stand up there drinking a slurpee complaining about how the HE and the dems were doing it wrong

someone needs to break that out, show how he was WRONG on the reason the economy was "in the ditch" and then describe how in this whole ACA thing the republicans were not even allowed in the "car" and now that the new "car" (that is, healthcare law blah blah blah) is in the "ditch" we really are not even allowed in the ditch to try and help unless we agree that the only solution is to make the ditch steeper and muddier and the "car" must continue in the same direction

and now slurpees are illegal because of their sugar content, unless you an obama, then you can eat whatever you want to eat

It's millions of low-skilled, semi-skilled, blue-collar squishes or "Reagan Democrats." These people see the ruling class allowing mass invasion and (rightly) feel that they have zero control over the country's future. Maybe I'm putting too much stock in what I hear around me, but I think that on the street there are as many Dems as Repubs against the illegal invasion. Without a body the police have yet to piece together the events of the day.It can only be described as implausible.

Reports of a second body landing in the Boyle Heights area have yet to be confirmed, and are being treated as the bullshit they most likely are."

The freshman Democratic congressman from Massachusetts is among six activists who will replace current members of the “Fast for Families” group, many of whom are too weak to continue after 22 days of foregoing any sustenance except water. The group has been camped out on the National Mall to protest the lack of progress on immigration measures pending in the House. “We are a nation of immigrants and we are stronger and better because of it,” Kennedy said, first in Spanish, then English. Kennedy spoke before a crowd of nearly 100 onlookers and several members of Congress, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, as well as Secretary of Labor Tom Perez. The whole point behind in-state and out-of-state was to discourage students from out of state to attend a school that in-state students would have a better chance at finding a space available for.  Pricing was the factor.

And international = out of state rate.

international =2X out of state.  here at GMU, to meet the "diversity" criteria, they are expanding international undergraduate admissions (they can pay the premium rate and they are better prepared, which helps on the revenues and costs side), most likely at the expense of unprepared students from DC (in state in all 50 states?).  all they can do it and not feel too guilty about it.

GOP leaders such as McConnell, McCain and Rove have put more passion, effort and energy into crushing the scary extremist whacko bird Tea Party conservative threat than they ever have opposing the Democratic Party's 'transformative' authoritarian agenda. Never happen. Look at how bad things are in Greece and Venezuela. There has been no rebellion in either of those countries. In Cyprus the government closed the banks and stole citizens' money. No rebellion.

We will not see any kind of rebellion, revolution, or mass movement in this country until the EBT cards stop working , the social security checks stop showing up in the mail, and the power goes out and fails to come back on.

301 And yet many here and at other conservative blogs tell me I should shut up, not challenge "R" incumbents, and support the GOP blindly. We will not see any kind of rebellion, revolution, or mass movement in this country until the EBT cards stop working , the social security checks stop showing up in the mail, and the power goes out and fails to come back on. For that very reason I am a supporter of the idea of guerrilla resistance. I agree that there will never be a revolt among the citizenry in general, and I doubt any states will ever secede as even the reddest state has a significant idiot liberal populace, making it impossible for any single state to stand unified against the tyranny of the left. Therefore, I think the right should start to seriously consider IRA type organization and tactics to combat the tyranny of the left. All judges, bureaucrats, LEOs, legislators and their aids that pass, support, or enforce laws or regulations that violate the constitution (not the constitution as interpreted, but the constitution as written and intended) are fair game as enemy combatants. Collateral damage must be avoided to the extent possible. I know people will think that is an "extreme" idea or radical idea, but it certainly is not out of the realm of consideration. Once Obamacare collapses and we have single-payer, the federal gov't will have a say over every aspect of our lives. Add 20 million new citizens/legal residents who all hail from far, far, far left countries and were raised and educated steeped in far left beliefs, and what is America going to become? I, for one, see the GOP as just as big if not a bigger problem than the dems. Because they are a trojan horse to all things liberal.

Posted by: monkeytoe at December 03, 2013 11:23 AM (sOx93)

302 You're right. I know some hard-core libs in Vegas, and they're sick of the illegal invasion. It is one thing that many of the polar opposites can agree on. Posted by: Soona at December 03, 2013 01:56 PM (9sMM9) The problem with this is that the libs that are anti-Amnesty don't rank that issue high. In other words, they may be against amnesty, but it isn't going to change their vote. I think we would capture a ton of the LIV, mushy middle types though. Unfortunately, the GOP wants amnesty, so who exactly is going to run against Amnesty?

Posted by: monkeytoe at December 03, 2013 11:26 AM (sOx93)

    Screw immigration "reform". Unnecessary.

      Let's try ENFORCING EXISTING LAW.

Couple that with tight border security and stand back. When the grapevine does it's thing, self-deportation will explode.

After a year, then revisit the situation and see what needs tweaking.

Can't understand why this isn't trumpeted loudly.

The mechanism is in place to effect the above.
