Did you read about the project where the old Rocketdyne F-1 engines from the Saturn 5 were disassembled and examined, and were being prototyped for the F-1B engine, to be used in a new booster?
It was linked at Instapundit a few days ago. Pretty interesting stuff.

Any fellow Jets fans want to guess what they'll do with that pick?
Slow linebacker, undersized pass rusher, lead handed tight end, or technique deficient offensive lineman?
Whomever they pick, other GM's will say "we had him slated as a 3rd rounder"
Unfortunately they didn't throw Sanchez in with the deal

that reminds me..
at the race today, the guy sitting right behind me was talking about how he used to be one of the staff security guys at the track, and on one of the previous races, the night before the race, this whole station wagon full of girls showed up wanting to go to Kasey Kayne's trailer... the security dude didn't let them in, of course, so they turned around and drove away... but then Kasey came out of his trailer and ran towards the station wagon, hopped in the driver's seat, and personally drove the entire station wagon to his trailer....
seems as though Kasey is a bit of a player

But we heard from the MSM all week that it's the right wing who is inherently violent
And no offense to Boston area morons, but what is "Strong" about sitting indoors when Mumbles swore that there were no others, one of them is dead and the other is badly wounded in a 20 block area of Watertown?
One more thing; what did the FBI do that is getting them plaudits? They got lucky, what happens if they ever have to hunt down terrorists smarter than the Brothers Tsaraev, Undiebomber, or the DC Snipers?

All their sophisticated tech tools and they couldn't pull up Big Brother in a database? If the Bomb Brothers hadn't shot a cop at MIT, they very well could have driven out of the area. Then they were lucky that the brothers let COEXIST guy go and forgot to give him his cell phone back. In the end, Little Brother would have just bled to death in the boat if the owner hadn't gone for a smoke when the "all clear" was given

Monday marks the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day. Just as for the first Earth Day in 1970, people across the planet will voice their concerns for Mother Earth. This year, the theme is "The Face of Climate Change." The organizers of the Earth Day Network have been gathering faces, of humans and other animals, to bring attention to the crisis of our time: global warming. The mosaic of faces with be available Monday on line and at thousands of events worldwide.
Here is my Earth Day face:

stuck in car listening to NPR
Garrison Keiller giving the update on Lake Woebegone
ends the monologue with a screed about the senate not passing gun control
said it was the fault of states "that really shouldn't be states"
then he listed North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, and Nebraska
said they did not have enough population to justify being a state and too much representation in the senate
the solution, in his mind was to not let them be states any longer an make them national parks instead
he received wild applause
for disenfranchising a wide swarth of America, that he pretends to love

#1: Why did the shoot the MIT p.o. as he was in his cruiser?
#2: What were they doing at/near MIT?
Here's my guess: They were there trying to plant a couple of bombs at MIT, but they were spotted by the MIT p.o.
To prevent him from calling it in and alerting others, they rushed in and blasted him. But it was too late; the p.o. managed to call in the suspicious men.

Agreed, it's unlikely those were an issue. Somehow, more than one link in the critical chain broke, and that's where the investigation should and will look first. Redundant safety systems, failsafes, etc. Multiple systems had to fail for that plant to burn and then explode.

I heard they were in a parking lot at MIT trying to open parked cars. someone saw them and called security. They were probably trying to steal a car. Anyway, security parks to see if he can catch them, they sneak up behind him and execute him. Perhaps he did catch hi. Don't know.
Shortly thereafter they go to the 7-11 and carjack a car. Apparently bragging to the owner they were the bombers. Why they would do that, and leave hiim alive, I haven't a clue

I'm in the manufacturing world...the cost of compliance with OSHA's shit is astronomical to the point where it's a legit drain on the economy. If Sarbanes-Oxley costs a few billion a year, then OSHA compliance has to be in the tens of billions. More of them is not what we need. The Cloward-Piven thing seems fun on its face, but before you killed OSHA, you'd kill tons of jobs. They are Legion.

As the agency was accused of "dropping the ball" over the case, NBC News reported that Tamerlan Tsarnaev had been seen making six visits to a known Islamic militant in a mosque in the Russian republic of Dagestan.
The visits came during a six month trip that Tamerlan made to the city of Makhachkala to see his family, NBC said.
According to a local police official, a case file on Tsarnaev was then handed over to the FBI along with a request for further information. However, the FBI never replied.
The agency has already admitted that it interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011 after Russia raised concerns that he was becoming a follower of radical Islam, but found nothing "derogatory" against him and did not pursue the case further.
The 26-year-old, who allegedly orchestrated last Monday's bombings with his younger brother Dzhokhar, was killed in the early hours of Friday morning in a shootout with police. It came just hours after police released images of the pair to the public.
In a further twist, Channel 4 News claimed on Sunday that Tamerlan had phoned home in the wake of the bombings and told his mother that the FBI had already called him to accuse him of being responsible.
According to the report, Tamerlan telephoned his mother on Wednesday last week and said he had replied to the FBI's accusations by saying: "That's your problem". The claims emerged from an interview with his father, Ansor.
The FBI declined to comment directly on either claim on Sunday.

Further win:
Modern gasoline automotive engines have fuel injectors. Small gasoline generators do not. They have carburetors.
Modern automotive gasoline is typically full of shit that it shouldn't be full of, first among equals of which being ethanol. This means that it gums up carburetors like nobody's business. As well as melting plastic fuel tanks, eating fuel line seals, washing lubricating oil off of cylinder walls, you name it. Go to any small engine shop and just say "ethanol", and watch the brows furrow in response.
Better yet, gasoline with all of this unwelcome crap in it tends to go bad simply while being stored. Thus hugely reducing its utility as an emergency stored fuel source.
Propane avoids all of these problems entirely.
It works SO well that I'm sure the government will ban the stuff shortly.

The printing on the breaker handle is amps, not volts. If you see a big one with 200 on it, that's probably your main breaker for a 220/240V service.
Typically, well pumps will be on a double wide (220/240v) breaker in the 20A range.
The three positions are on/tripped/off. When tripped, the breaker is disconnecting the power. To reset tripped 3-position breaker, move it to off, then on.
I like the Cutler-Hammer "CH" breakers, they only have two positions, on/off which is less confusing for users. If a breaker trips, it moves to the off position.

In a lot of places the garage light may be wired up to the same circuit that's doing the garage receptacle. If the light is wired to the load side of a GFCI, then the lights could go out on a GFCI trip.
A GFCI is those rectangular receptacle thingies with the test/reset buttons.
You MAY just need to push the reset button on a GFCI

That's VERY bad. That leak needs to be plugged.
The pipe thingie coming in from outside probably has no overcurrent protection on the wire coming in from the meter -- ie. that wire can short/burn freely and not trip a main breaker.
If there's an outside breaker by the meter, then you have a "meter main" setup, and the wall penetration wire has some protection.

If one switch operates something, that's a single pole switch (although in a pinch, a junk box 3-way or 4-way can be made to function as a single pole)
If two, then the switches are 3-ways.
If three or more switches operate the same thing, then there's at least two 3-ways, and the remainder will be 4-way

It'll be outside pretty close to where that basement wall penetration happens. The electric code severely limits the length of the wire from the meter to the main breaker.
you can dig up outside around where that wall penetration happens and stuff big gaps with electrical duct seal and then get some roof tar and seal the wall penetration area and around the conduit (or service entrance cable if its cable).
If there's foundation cracks in that area letting water in, that's a bigger problem..

I can empathize Tammy. There are normal folks around here, We are over whelmed by Chicago criminality.
Keep on the good fight.

I used a couple of them on 3-way's that operate a light in garage laundry area and they've worked OK for a year or so now since I energized that new circuit.

Hubble hospital grade. When you see their price, price WILL become an issue ;->
The Pass-Seymour commercial grade switches and receptacles (part numbers prefixed with CSxxx for switches and CRxxx for receptacles) seem to be a very good compromise between cost and value. The P-S residential grade stuff is junk like all residential grade stuff is.
That's what I fitted for 90% of the switches and receptacles in my crib when I was ripping out all the crappy residential grade stuff. The CRxxx receptacles grip plugs very firmly. You won't have shit falling out of the wall with them

The built-in receptacles in surge protectors and power strips are usually cheap junk.
You may want to look at getting a TVSS installed -- that's a mondo surge protector that protects the whole house.
I have a generic fits-all one hanging off my main breaker panel and another on in a plugin breaker type format on a Square-D subpanel that feeds my office/lab circuits.
The plug-in format is real easy to install if there's a couple of spare slots in the panel.

That's probably a "single" rather than a ubiquitous duplex receptacle. Nobody really makes a shit grade of that format device.
They use singles in laundry areas because the electric code allows a dedicated appliance like a washer (or fridge) to not be GFCI protected when a single is used.

We had a shitty spring. It was March, then it went back to February. Then it was April, then it went back to February. Then for the last few days it was March again, and today it got all cloudy and windy so I think we may jumped to September or something.
As long as we don't have to do February again. It's like groundhog's month around here.

Typically, you'd hook it up to a 2-pole 15A breaker.
If you want to go up a grade, the Eaton CVX050/CVX100 devices are nice and will take a bigger hit than the cheap Intermatic and survive..

Right. It can't do anything about failed downstream devices. Bum switches, receptacles, and shorts aren't really a voltage surge threat. They can cause huge amperage spikes when shit goes all shorty/sparky.
In a 2006 era crib you got breakers that will trip magnetic as well as thermal, so dead shorty stuff should trip almost instantly.
Older places with early generation breakers, have stuff that only trips thermally -- i.e. a dead short has to persist long enough for a thermal trip element in the breaker to heat up...which could be several seconds at many hundreds/thousands of amps depending on wire size and length. Screw in fuses only blow thermally.

220v arcs are a different story. I've seen 220v circuits where 18" of copper were flat out gone and the cable sheath pulled away like a snake skin. It takes an arc persisting for a long time to vaporize 18" of copper. The only thing that kept that place from burning down was the roof leaked bad and the beam the cable was stapled to was always wet, so it never got a chance to burn the joint down.

Meanwhile, a law-enforcement source told The Post the FBI is scouring video of the marathon and showing RussellÂ’s picture to witnesses to see if she was at or near the finish line when two bombs ripped through the crowd last Monday, killing three people and injuring nearly 200 others.
“We’re looking at [footage] and showing the photo,’’ the source said.

A new report says Dzhokhar Tsarnaev shoved his pistol in his own mouth and pulled the trigger as SWAT officers and federal agents closed in on the boat where he was hiding on Friday night. However, instead of killing him, the bullet simply tore through his neck.
Authorities have said they cannot question him because of the throat wound. CNN reports that Tsarnaev remains ‘intubated and sedated’ at a Boston hospital.

There's a few obvious take-aways for imitators.
-- choose a night time event so cams and bystander cellphone video won't be as effective, and your escape will be more effective.
-- sit tight after the strike. Don't go full-tard and do something like a robbery and cop killing that'll draw unwanted attention.
-- preposition the bomb well before the strike and event you plan to hit, and choose events with less security. Night clubs, theaters, high school football games, etc. With a prepositioned bomb and a cell phone, you could generate a flash mob and draw the victims to wherever you prepositioned the bomb.

you have to not talk about it. But that runs contra to being a terrorist. The whole point of being a terrorist is to talk about it so people know your cause and you make them terrified

These guys were idiots posting jihadi videos and tweeting jihadi shit.
You could leave a "sterile" calling card though at each strike site so the authorities knew it was you. That could be something completely untraceable like a plastic Solo cup or a torn in half dollar bill. Eventually someone in LE would notice that pattern and realize it was you.

I assume some probably are. Like with most ordinary criminals, we only catch the REALLY stupid ones. The smart ones ain't getting caught.
Clever infrastructure sabotage won't even be recognized as such. It can be made to look like materials failure, incorrect original installation, shoddy maintenance, etc.
With things like weather tight equipement enclosures, an innocuous 1/4" hole drilled in the cabinet would be all it takes. Then water starts getting in, crawley insect critters start moving in, etc. By the time the gear fails, the 1/4" hole looks aged enough that it'll be written off as a careless installer.
