MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, RIP
— Ace

The first cop killed by the terrorists last night.

WHAT? The story had been that the terrorists robbed a 7/11, and this is what drew police attention.

Now they're saying there was no 7/11 robbery. I think.

I really don't know. I feel so stupid, sitting here "blogging news" when I have no idea what the news is.

66 Given the younger brother escaped the police shoot-out on foot; given the two vehicles the brothers had resort to, the Honda and the Mercedes, have both been accounted for; given the number of hours that have passed since the shoot-out with the police, with no reports received by the police of more vehicles associated with theft or dead bodies; given the police report having fired over 200 rounds of high speed perp-stopper ammo into the vehicle; and given the other brother was hit multiple times ... I strongly suspect Suspect #2 holed up within a few blocks of the shoot-out, and didn't leave thereafter; and that if he's not dead already (of which there's a strong possibility he is), and if his hiding place is not found fairly soon, he'll be dead before this night is out.

A crime of domestic violence is a permanent bar to legally own a weapon.

A crime of domestic violence in no way shape or form interfers with your ability to gain US citizenship or legal status.

But on the other hand, it's good to know what the invented bullshit is, as long as we've got some kind of caveat.

It is pretty much impossible to sift through bullshit in real time and *still provide content*. Other than "no one really knows what the fuck is going on, but Boston sure is still on some kind of lockdown, discuss".

111 I strongly suspect Suspect #2 holed up within a few blocks of the shoot-out, and didn't leave thereafter; and that if he's not dead already (of which there's a strong possibility he is), and if his hiding place is not found fairly soon, he'll be dead before this night is out.

I don't get the "masquerading as Ivy League students" bit; there's been no suggestion of any of that from any news org. And neither of the brothers was in fact as an Ivy Leaguer: the older one attended a community college for a while, and the younger one was enrolled at a satellite campus of UMass. 194 This is pure speculation of course.  But these guys were pretty desperate to steal a car.  They stole at least two, right?  I think they were probably trying to steal a car on the campus when the Officer Collier pulled up. The attack was described as an ambush or assassination.  One could have drawn the officers attention as he pulled up while the other sneaked up on him.  Its hard to imagine it happening any other way.  Collier must have come up on them while something was in progress.
