More than 8,000 French households' tax bills topped 100 percent of their income in 2012, according to a French newspaper report.
Citing data from France's finance ministry, the business newspaper Les Echos
reported on Friday that in addition to those taxed at over 100 percent
last year, almost 12,000 households paid taxes worth more than 75
percent of their 2011 income and that a further 9,910 households were
taxed at more than 85 percent of their income.
Ain't socialism grand or grande comrades?

Yet Obama acknowledged that “the bitter legacies of slavery and segregation” have not vanished, that discrimination still exists.
“As Morehouse men, many of you know what it’s like to be an outsider, to be marginalized, to feel the sting of discrimination. That’s an experience that a lot of Americans share,” Obama said.
Hispanic Americans, Obama lamented, are told to “go back” home while strangers pass judgment on the parenting skills of gay men and lesbians or stare at Muslim Americans with suspicion.
Gee Barry, you divisive little prick, no mention of Asians, Native Americans or womyn. How bigoted of you

“When people realize that their most personal, sensitive, intimate, private healthcare information is in the hands of the IRS that's been willing to use people's tax information against political opponents of this administration, then people have pause and they pull back in horror,” Bachmann says.
The Obama administration has refuted the claim that the IRS will handle peopleÂ’s medical records, but Bachmann is not convinced.Because Barry and his minions have been so honest and up front all along, how could anyone doubt him?

In some places, yes. In others they have other ways to do it. Their two favorite (for old houses) are these:
1) The Snow Job- this is a pure con. They come in talking about how awesome the HOA would be, and offering to mow your lawn, and all kinds of things. Once you sign up, you're stuck- for some reason there's never a way to leave the HOA.
2) Inherited Crapfest- this is often a result of the first, but sometimes the person who added the house to the HOA did so knowing full well what evil would be wrought. But, as I mentioned in #1- once a house is registered in an HOA, it is almost impossible to remove it. Indeed, a note goes on the real estate listing (when you're ready to sell) that says it must be in an HOA and what the dues are.

"Rather, they all universally admitted that their billing system was chaotic and disorganized"
This is a characteristic of both fraud and overwhelming government regulations. A skilled prosecutor can make the confusion of government regulation seem to be intentional fraud. Glen Reynolds makes the point that when government regulations are overwhelming, then everything is a crime. It is also the point often made by the political left that if you are successful you must have cheated because it is impossible to be successful without cheating.
Just like with the IRS targeting political groups for extensive investigation, the only way to end it is take away the power; end the non profit exemption from tax, and in this case, end government funding of medicaid/medicare. Then neither the government, nor citizens can 'cheat'.

Wife saw an ad in the paper for an antebellum house located out in the county. We went out and looked at it.
Someone had started fixing it up but had stopped before finishing it. They had completed putting vinyl siding on the house and had put in a heat pump with gas pacs (fed from a propane tank)
They were asking $200K for it. Told wifey we would be better off buying a lot and having a new house built to spec to look like the old one. It costs much more to fix up a house that old than it does to build new. Also, with a multistory house that old it is probably somewhat hazardous as well.

The biggest problem is that there's a good chance that a lot of the studs are not going to be evenly spaced so that can fuck with your insulation. As president of a HOA, I can attest to how purely evil it is. Dues are arbitrarily set, rules are ignored or enforced on a whim and nothing can be done to save the individual homeowner because they signed up voluntarily.

Y'all keep saying to avoid houses with an HOA, but there don't seem to be any 'round these parts that aren't part of some HOA even if it's minimal.
I consider ours to be mostly neutral. The indentures pretty much mesh 100% with the city, I can't keep livestock on my quarter acre and I'm not allowed to run a boarding house. About the only thing they require approval for is a fence. I've been told as long as you send the plans in they pretty much approve them, they apparently stopped caring years ago.
There were two movements right before I moved in (neither gained vary much steam) the first wanted to just dissolve the indentures (but the neighborhood does have common ground to care for, which is what the $100 year fee covers, and the street lights.) The other was to add a clause that limited the number of rentals in the subdivision (to prevent blight). Like I said, neither went anyway (and none will, it's nearly impossible to change the indentures.)

92 Not all 120 year old houses are alike. Some are in decent condition and the specs are arguably superior to modern construction. For instance, hard wood all over. Get rid of the lath and put in modern insulation and sheet rock drywall and you are good to go a lot of times. Dealing with historical boards of review can be a problem, depending on your location. You may not be allowed to put in modern construction practices, depending on where you bought.

Check local shooters forums, or armslist.com in your city. Some are trying to gouge, but keep an eye out, and "reasonable" priced ammo appears often enough.
Most of the stuff on armlist I've seen is slightly higher than what I see in the stores. Obviously people who were lucky enough to score the Walmart and Dick's trips and turning around and re-selling it for profit. Firearms seem to be a better deal than ammo.

Morning, all! Hope everyone had a good weekend, and that y'all and your loved ones are safe after that awful spate of tornadoes.
From the first link about Obammy's lying ass and the IRS:
The White HouseÂ’s chief lawyer learned weeks ago that an audit of the Internal Revenue Service likely would show that agency employees inappropriately targeted conservative groups, a senior White House official said Sunday.
That disclosure has prompted a debate over whether the president should have been notified at that time.
First off - really? This prompted a "debate?" Are you serious? There shouldn't be any "debate" about whether or not the Preezy should have been informed "at that time" or any other time. IT'S HIS G-DDAMN "ADMINISTRATION."
And secondly, if the Treasury felt it prudent to inform THE WHITE HOUSE'S chief lawyer about the IRS' criminal activities weeks ago, then presumably it was considered important enough for THE WHITE HOUSE'S knowledge. You do not go to THE WHITE HOUSE'S chief lawyer if you're just looking to chat about sensitive legal matters; each Executive agency already has its own chief counsel for that. You go to THE WHITE HOUSE'S chief lawyer when you want the Preezy and his cohorts to know that the shit is about to hit the fan, and it's a gooey, wet shit, which means it'll spatter everywhere.
Obama knew when his lawyers knew, and probably well before that. We all know it, he knows we know it -- it's just a matter of who'll blink first.

"In other random news, I just read that the guy who developed tumblr sold it for one biilllliiioooon dollars to Yahoo..."
Not to be too sexist, but the last time someone did something this stupid was back in 1999. Jill Barad took over as CEO of Mattel and bought a tech company at the top of the market. I made a little money shorting their stock.
For some reason, women execs seem to think they need to do some swashbucking superdeal to make their mark. tublr has nothing other than kids who currently think it's cool. Not a good reason to pay a billion.
This will not turn out well.

Your relationship with your smoke alarm is changing and there's important information everyone needs to know. Maryland is the most recent state to require that battery-only operated smoke alarms be equipped with sealed-in, 10-year lithium batteries. The new law takes effect on July 1, 2013.
Not to be a Nanny Nabob or anything, but don't lithium batteries have an unfortunate tendency to blow up? I know that's a specific TYPE of lithium battery, not ALL lithium batteries, but does anyone out there REALLY think the Chinese who make our smoke detectors are going to give a shit about that?

Multitasker tools just launched their Series 3 platform. It's an AR-15 specific multitool. Aside from the blade and tool, it comes with a carbon scraper and front sight post adjustment tool and other AR specific tools.
Here's a cut and paste of the features:
CNC billet pliers (D2 tool steel)Non slip G10 scales (BLK or TAN)3/8” hex for LaRueTM mounts1/2” hex for scope ringsDual lug M4 castle nut spanner wrench/bottleopener + screwdriver3/32” pin punch with 8‐32 male thread for OTIS®cleaning kit compatibility• radiused tip carbon scraper3” D2 tool steel knife bladePocket clip (removable)1/4” magnetic bit driver with M16A2 FSP AdjusterIncludes 10 hex bits for the most commonlyused AR accessories.
There was supposed to be a SCAR specific version called the MultitaSCAR but that didn't make it past prototype and into production. Too bad, I would have paid all sorts of good money for that.

It was awfully nice of Obammy to educate the idiot kiddos graduating from Morehouse this weekend about the evils of racism and Jim Crow. I suspect he didn't mention that Jim Crow was a Democrat endeavor, and, oh yeah, he wasn't even born at the time so he doesn't actually know what the Jim Fuck he's talking about. But that's okay, because he was addressing black youths, and it's okay to obfuscate to black youths because none of them know how to think for themselves.*
*That's what Democrats believe. Which is one more reason to punch a Democrat.
