Think of what a fine job the two Bobs (Dole and Michel) did before Gingrich took charge. Also think of what many Repubs in the House were willing to do to Gingrich when the Dems went after him on dozens of ethics charges (none of which stuck)
The same establishment Repubs probably think that Bush Sr could have just as well beaten Carter in 1980, and they most likely believe that the Repubs would have had that big victory in 2010 without the Tea Party people. Wouldn't Charlie Crist have been as successful a candidate as Rubio? No doubt there.
Rove and the others may sincerely believe that they know what they're talking about and probably believe that they have the party's best interests at heart, but if they are allowed to continue to run the show, we will someday be reduced to singing about what a great country we once had.
