— Ace Although Lisa Meyers is reporting this at NBC, here's a link to Breitbart.
We've actually known this -- those of us outside the liberal bubble -- for a week. But now maybe a few people inside it know it now too.
Jay Sekulow is a one-time trial lawyer who represented the IRS in tax-exempt cases. Today, though, he represents 27 conservative groups singled out by the IRS. The lawsuit he intends to file includes letters to his clients that come from "Department of the Treasury / Internal Revenue Service / Washington, D.C."Sekulow told NBC News:
“We've dealt with 15 agents, including tax law specialists -- that's lawyers -- from four different offices, including (the) Treasury (Department) in Washington, D.C.,” Sekulow said. “So the idea that this is a couple of rogue agents in Cincinnati is not correct.”
Fifth Amendment Enthusiast Lori Lerner's signature is on the cover letters of many of the partisan inquiries-- and those inquiries continued through 2012.
BTW: Schulman called it perfectly normal to visit the White House 118 times in a two year period.
Know how many times the Bush appointee in his position visited the White House from 2003-2007?
So 118 times does not seem "normal."
Among the reasons Schulman offered for visiting the White House so much -- he said that one time he was there for the Easter egg roll.

I think a better way to think of "118 times in two years" is like this: that is more than once a week.
Imagine that at work, you had a weekly meeting scheduled for a period of TWO YEARS. A weekly meeting scheduled at a remote office location. That location being the corporate HQ. This would mean that you were working on something significant, obviously.

It doesn't matter if they have signed confessions, nothing is going to happen.
Obama doesn't give a shit. He's been reelected and the press will not turn on him. He can order a blanket pardon to everyone involved and issue an executive order to all government employees to not participate in any further investigations - so that they can get back to the "people's business".

Is Obama going to be impeached? Probably not. But perhaps he can be kept on the sidelines by trumpeting this and, maybe, win the Senate back.

Of course the orders came from higher up. Some low-level person doesn't dream this up on his own and keep it running for months. Supervisors would be asking why his files never close and would want to see his work. And then would come the explosions.
So the higher ups ordered it and being the higher ups they could sign off on all of the irregularities witht ehfiles, just long enough for it to work.

what's scary is .... what if they don't care that there's a paper trail and so on?
From what I can gather, what they did was pretty illegal. The paper trail provides the proof.
Also, the net results of their targeting was to throw a national election by drying up the monies Tea Party groups needed to get their message out. If the lawyers can get enough evidence that Lib/Prog/Com groups were approved in a timely manner and TP groups were deliberately slow-walked, that would make their case for political discrimination.
It appears that this was the case. We are all Chicago now.

I'm actually sorta of two minds on this.
The existence of several rich hucksters like Kevin Trudeu and the guy in Texas with his anti-neoplastics (intentionally misspelled and obfuscated because they love to run Google searches and get sue happy) seem to point in the opposite direction on that one.
Medical treatment is really freaking weird.
Having said that, the FDA is horribly constructed and concentrates power in far to little of a footprint, which leads to the oddities like remarkably slow approval of generics. Also it's getting easier and easier to manipulate rendering it less and less useful. (Heck I finished a case study a few years back where they accepted a drug even knowing a chunk of the data was made up whole cloth.)

Syria's heating up. I expect something to happen on the foreign front to distract the MFM from all of this. McCain and Kerry aren't using jazz hands for nothing.
Oh, and McCain, Boehner, McConnell and other establishment repubs have their hands in this just as deeply as Dear Leader's regime. They'll all be searching for a distraction.

Go after 'em and make their names public. There may or may not be a case, but when abuse of authority is this flagrant, letting them off without any sort of challenge does nothing to discourage others from doing the same thing.

I think a better way to think of "118 times in two years" is like this: that is more than once a week.
I was told there would never be math on this blog.
Probably just meeting with some low level flunkies that never told the boss he was even there. Is Obama even at the WH one day a week? He has such a busy schedule what with all the golfing, photo ops at the Jersey shore and Monroe, OK, parties with Jayzee and Beyonce and those endless speeches and fundraisers. I think that the frequency of Schulman's visits definitely gives Obama plausible deniabilty.

I disagree. All the scandles should get as much press and attention as possible. Every conservative should spend every waking minute telling everyone they know.
However, if anyone thinks someone is actually going to be held responsible and lose something in the process, they will be disappointed.

147OT but wondering if anyone else is an Edward Jones customer and received the very interesting email today re interest rates going up. Basically a "DON'T PANIC" message wrapped around a what goes up must go down (stock market) message all tied up with a "its been a pleasure to serve you" bow. Posted by: farmersusie at May 29, 2013 01:48 PM (ydb8s)
I'm with Edward Jones. I was about to delete the e-mail when I read your post. Opened it up and read it. I'd agree it read like someone trying to soften a blow. I think we're going to see a market "correction" sometime in the not so distant future. I'm still fairly young so (hopefully) in the long run it'll work out. I'd be more worried if I were shortly about to be or were retired.

The existence of real problems does not make gov't a good solution.
FDA is more of a placebo than a cure. Is there a chance we could structure a gov't agency that could do the job right? Perhaps - but the track record is that bureaucracies do not have the incentives to do the job they're supposedly doing.

There is this image of Jay Carney on this red bicycle with these little tassels on the handlebars. He is making an obnoxious laughing sound. He peddles madly down the ramp and then he is on the up ramp. Next he is catching air traveling to land on the other ramp. Below him is a pool with hungry sharks, the water is red with chum, and you can see each shark is tagged ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, and Fox. He is still laughing like an obnoxious twit. The he is abruptly silenced in mid-snort as this giant shark tagged 'The People' leaps into the air and swallows Jay and his bicycle whole.

I've asked for a citation on that, and never received one. I do not doubt that Lerner went to work for the IRS (or some Fed agency) during Bush's tenure...., but did he personally select her for a job? Until there is some evidence, I reject the assertion as empty.

I think Ed's point is that the window for the IRS malfeasance having actual effect against the Administration passed in October 2012.
Some of us were pooped on in the morning thread for wondering why this couldn't be a campaign issue for 2012 if congresspeople were issuing a bunch of questions/requests for information about it even a year or so ago. Hence Ed's post...per Gabe and others, we apparently didn't have evidence before the 2012 election, and now it's apparently futile to pursue this since no one will be held responsible.
So what, exactly, *is* the threshold for action...?

All the best to you as well. I'm hoping the letter wasn't a full blown Animal House "Remain Calm, All is Well"!! type deal. But I think they see what's coming down the pike and want people to be prepared and not act rashly or stupidly when the inevitable results of this administration's economic chickens come home to roost.
