27 I sneer at equal protection as claimed support for gay marriage. A gay man has the same right to marry a woman as I do. There, the law is satisfied.

Technically, I don't have anything against gay marriage. My problem is that I don't have anything for it either. It's just a silly gesture by people who are never going to produce children without a third party involved, either by adoption or surrogacy. With providing support for a family structure I just don't see much reason for marriage that isn't covered by modern contract law, so far and responsibilities, property, and inheritance are concerned.

It does annoy me when agitators cry that they aren't allowed to publicly declare their love. Want to declare your love? Put up a Facebook page. It's free. Buy a TV commercial if you want spend some money. But marriage? Who the hell gave this generation the delusion that love and marriage is a 1:1 overlap in the Venn diagram. Until fairly recently in human history this was a rare thing at best.

I guess this is another bit of silliness we can thank Hollywood and other media for making appear as reality.

The 2010 Census found that 500,000 couples stated they were in a same-sex "relationship".

So all this kerfuffle for 1,000,000 people TOTAL in this country.

30 Well I wonder if the people of New Mexico will decide to make a constitutional amendment saying "no it doesn't" and have it pass. Then we can watch as a gay judge declares an amendment to the constitution unconstitutional, the state refuse to appeal a law that the people of the state want. And the Supreme Court declare that the people of the state have no standing to try to uphold the law they want.

Hate to burst the Gay Lobby's bubble, but that number is an outlier  - kind of like saying that 3 million  of the newest iPods were sold on the first day it came out.

The real number to watch for is what percentage of marriages are same-sex five years from now.

I guarantee it's going to be so small that NO media outlet will be reporting it.....

It is going to be fun to watch all of these folks who purport to want to marry the  same-sex love of their life when they do get married, then decide that  it isn't   "all that" after all.

But now that their union  has the power of the state and civil contracts behind it,  leaving isn't as easy as just packing up your shit and finding a new place to live.

You just broke a contract, buddy  - and there are LEGAL ramifications to doing that.

As a resident of Commiefornia, who incidentally voted against Prop 8, I observed the state's liberals go absolutely apeshit about Mormon involvement in passing it. There were hysterical screams about boycotting LDS-owned businesses, using "hate speech" laws against the church, you name it.

The fact that the black churches also were instrumental in passing Prop 8?  The black churches which salt their homophobia on top of their absolutely rock solid support for the Democratic Party? Commiefornia's liberals had this to say about that: *crickets*

Fen's Law, as always, comprehensively explains all.

121 Since gays couldn't marry within their sex until recently, and until the '80s (or so) had to stay in the closet, many got married to members of the opposite sex and had kids.

If there is such a thing as a "gay gene", then their kids might be carriers.

But what happens if gays everywhere are allowed to marry within their sex? How will the gay gene be passed along (at least in the same numbers as gays married to "beards")?

Will there be less and less homosexuals over time, or will random genetics in the heterosexual population cause the percentage of gays and lesbians to remain about the same?

Cecil Williams’ former live-in girlfriend, Rosita Cotto, claims new girlfriend Cynthia is plotting to keep her away from her soul mate. She burst into tears at St. Luke’s Hospital after officials turned her away from visiting him on Thursday. “She isn’t good for him. She is just a booty call!” Cotta yelled. Boy that seeing eye dog must have some stories to tell!

124 I'm telling you, the next battle won't be polygamy. It'll be against the age of consent. It's already different in different parts of the world and during history. An eight year old knows the difference between right and wrong, and that's scientifically studied. People like to bring up consent as a bright line difference between what's OK now and what's beyond the pale. For eg with an older woman and a teenaged boy. It's not a bright line and will be even more easily changed than marriage. This will be the next battle.

That's pretty much my position on the matter, with the obvious caveat that the who and the whom must be consenting adults.

And, well, if adulthood is going to be postponed now until age 26 as a matter of federal law, _pace_ Obamacare, let's go right on ahead and harmonize the age-of-consent laws to that.

Raising the the legal drinking age, the legal pot smoking age (where applicable) and the legal voting age to 26 would also eliminate a whole lot of nonsense. Perhaps the liberals really are on to something here.

Someone who had once done a purely informal look into the matter came to the conclusion that there likely is something genetic to male same sex attraction, and that guys get it through their mother.  His conclusion was that it wasn't passed on through fathers, even if they did have a window dressing marriage with kids.  He's not a scientist or researcher (he's a lawyer - and not the sort that would have to deal with this sort of thing), and I have no idea what sort of information he had acess to.  But if his theorizing had any accuracy at all, then any genetics involved might not be as cut and dried as "all the gay men stop reproducing and it largely goes away".

Anyway, they had to change their by-laws so as to prevent lawsuits from the homosexuals. The black gay mafia is all the rage here in Los Angeles. By the way, ESPN analyst Chris Broussard spoke to the congregation one Sunday, recounting his experience with being labeled a "homophobe" for speaking out against Jason Collins. It was interesting. And whoever said up thread that they were burnt out on racial discussions...I am too. But I am not allowed to feel this way according to the race hustlers.

She has said that this made her hate men. My former Division Chief in the Navy was a lesbian as well, molested repeatedly by her male cousin. Yet she got married and had three boys. She is now divorced and living with her lesbian lover. She did say that when she joined the military, she was "turned out" by her current partner, but felt that was wrong and decided to marry a man instead. And lastly, I have a cousin who was "turned out" by one of the older members of her high basketball team in high school. She has struggled for years now because of this. I pray for her, because it is hard to watch her like this. And when I say like this, I mean mentally and emotionally a mess.

But it's verboten to consider that might be related.

227 The slippery slope that I see is the sale of genetic materials and wombs -- if not outright sale of living children.  There are no genetic children in sterile marriages so a third party, whether the state, the market, or some other fraud or coercion could be the next big thing.  This will not go well.

My own tipping point on the issue was the younger and younger ages of children I know talking about gay sex and how evil adults are somehow stopping the good gay people from love.  Truly sad to see and hear 10-13 yo kids talking that way and declaring their gayness before any signs of puberty.  Shameful that these poor kids believe they are being trendy and fashionable -- sitting ducks for the real predators in the world.

234 Taking Constitutional principles on abstract terms, this is the logical outcome of things. There's a lot of issues the Founders never intended the Constitution to apply to that both sides now accept as required of it. but, a lot of conservative talk on this issue today seems to be about means, not ends, and idk the point. If you accept it its basically like Goldwater being against segregation but also against the 1964 act because of govt overreach.

Posted by: blue.dot at December 19, 2013 03:44 PM (VRSG2)

236 your an idiot My point is that if you're not gonna take issue with the substance of this, if you accept the argument but object to the means, how is that much different from invoking states rights back in the 50s and 60s? In the '40's and '50's, the pop pysch theory was that homosexual sons were the product of overbearing mothers and weak fathers. Sounds like bs to us now - except that I've known more than a couple of gay men who actually came from families like that. Who knows?

While there might be a genetic component to it, whether or not you choose to act on those impulses probably depends very much on both your upbringing and the social environment. Now, when it's fashionable to be gay, people who might have suppressed the urge in earlier eras have no reason to.

Years ago, a friend of mine went to some Betty Ford type place in Pennsylvania to sober up. Her roommate there was a lesbian - and a very definite "lipstick lesbian" - a pretty Hispanic woman who had a black eye. The lesbian told my friend she had "discovered" she was gay after she had been gang-raped by 5 guys when she was 19. She also told her "Chris" had beaten her up and that's why she had the black eye.

"Chris" came to visit her. Chris was a big blonde dyke in a flannel shirt and Birkenstocks. Apparently Chris liked to belt her girlfriend every now and then.

Woman "became" lesbian because of horrifying abuse by men - and then got into abusive relationships with other women.

That's the most extreme case I've ever heard of but I agree with other commenters that lesbians often seem to have a history of being sexually abused or raped by men.

An ER doc I know tells me that it is not at all unusual for gay men to get into fistfights - often very violent ones - with their lovers. That's easy to understand. With two men arguing there isn't that "I can't hit her, she's a woman" restraint that straight men who have been raised right have.
