NPS Shutdown Theater Update: Claude Moore Colonial Farm To Reopen
— Gabriel Malor

The Administration had cited the shutdown, claiming it had no choice but to shutter the Claude Moore Colonial Farm. Well, that is, until yesterday.

Funny, that. The National Park Service, threatened with political pressure and legal action, has decided that its act of barricading a privately-funded, privately-operated business was unnecessary. Let that sink in: for a week, the Obama Administration closed down this living history museum, costing it thousands of dollars, and now concedes that it didn't have to.

Managing director Anna Eberly said that NPS actually showed up yesterday to barricade her and her volunteers inside the Farm, but suddenly reversed their decision. "Just this morning we received the final absolute NO from the Dept. of Interior and were told the Farm would not open until the shutdown ended," wrote Eberly.

Fortunately, that wasn't the end of the story. Eberly explained that the NPS gave no explanation, "We have no idea why the NPS changed its mind but we are very pleased that they did and hope that every group trying to operate on Federal lands has the same happy outcome."

The Farm will be open starting today.

61 I would take it as an indication that the Democrats in general and the NPS in particular are starting to feel the heat of bad feedback.  That Republicans were going to have raised negatives was inevitable given the bias of the media.  What they had not counted on was that the negatives of Democrats and Obama are also way up.

As somebody pointed out in a previous thread, the longer the shutdown continues, the more it becomes the new normal like gasoline that costs more than $3.00 or unemployment that is officially more than 7% but in reality more like 31% ( http://tinyurl.com/mn8f5b4 ).

The longer the shutdown lasts, the more people realize just how well they can get along without federal government functions.  The other thing that happens is that since Obama started out by obviously politicizing the shutdown by spending extra money on "shutdown theater", anything that results from the shutdown will be regarded as resulting from Obama playing politics.  Since Senator Reid has already said that he is willing for children with cancer to die as part of this political shutdown theater, that lends credence to the idea of Democrat depraved indifference to any bad results.

The longer this goes on the worse for the Left.  The petty stuff will go away when it is acknowledged that it isn't doing what it was intended to do (it isn't doing what it was intended to do; many understand it isn't doing what it was inteded to do; acknowledging that is the last part) which was make Republicans the Cruel Heartless Bullies.  And then the shutdown budget levels become the new normal like sequestration budget levels have become the new normal.

And that isn't good for the Left at all - dialing back government one step at a time to a new normal.

Livestock typically is not fed or milked or watered once a day, rather you need to do so several times a day. That needs to get more attention to the public than it has currently received.

273 How interesting. The national park rangers association is holding its annual confab in St. Louis this month. ( http://tinyurl.com/m9dmgt9 )

We should lobby the Hilton to barrycade the rangers out. Or in. Whichever works best.

"What? You spent months planning and organizing? You spent money on airfare and room reservations? And now all that money and time is wasted? Gee, that must suck."

btw: the ANPR's page of current officers looks and reads more like a National Lampoon parody of same.

274 A bigger problem than the forced shutdowns of privately run enterprises on federal land is the voluntary shutdowns in 'solidarity'. Case in point is the Kalaloch Lodge and the Paradise Inn in WA. On the Kalaloch Lodge website:

Dear Guest, Due to the US Government closure, Kalaloch Lodge will close at 11 AM today unless the National Park Service is funded between now and then. For our guests with reservations: Starting at noon on 10/3/2013, if the NPS is not funded, we will cancel reservations and refund deposits, on a day-to-day basis, for that day only. For example: on 10/3, we will cancel and refund 10/3 arrivals. On 10/4, we will cancel and refund 10/4 arrivals. And so on until the NPS is once again funded. The moment the NPS is once again funded, we will host all of our scheduled arrivals on that day. We hope to be open again soon and welcoming you as our guest.

Note that nothing is said about being forced by NPS to close. Also:  Kalaloch Lodge is operated by DNC Parks & Resorts at Kalaloch, Inc., a subsidiary of Delaware North Companies, Incorporated. DNC Parks & Resorts at Kalaloch, Inc. is a concessioner authorized by the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior to serve the public within Olympic National Park.

So hostage taking and barn burning?  Yup.  Maybe time to call out and boycott quislings?

275 I agree with running-m. all private entities forced to unlawfully close by order of President Stampyfoot need to be involved in a class-action lawsuit to cover their losses and remind wanna-be kings in DC about making hasty decisions for polling points.

Orson Scott Card was released by DC Comics because he had previously criticized The Obamessiah's policies. If you are not a disciple of The Obamessiah, you need not work in/for mainstream comics in this country. (See ridiculous fawning endorsement of The Obamessiah in published comics circa 2008-2009.)

276 I'm thinking either Mexico or, if we set up in Florida, Cuba. We're going to need a bigger trebuchet. (Clownf'r, to the barrel.)

278 Managing director Anna Eberly said that NPS actually showed up yesterday to barricade her and her volunteers inside the Farm, .....and planned to call on ATF and FBI to set it on fire. ok...I made the last part up....but you never know.

280 Off brave little sock!

281 As a first attempt at reform of the NPS: we keep the "national park" idea, we keep a national office, but the actual running of parks goes to the states, with "food inspector" type oversight by the national office. If the Federal government wishes to fund the states in this effort, more power to it. The DOE does not run local school districts, and the U.N. does not run "World Heritage Sites". Why do we need a national Ranger corps if they are going to put union-typeinterests first, as was clearly done here.

282 They must persue a lawsuit anyway.

283 "Fortunately, that wasn't the end of the story. Eberly explained that the NPS gave no explanation, "We have no idea why the NPS changed its mind but we are very pleased that they did and hope that every group trying to operate on Federal lands has the same happy outcome."

The Farm will be open starting today."

Focus group polling results must have come in, and the results were probably very, very, very bad for Bitter Barry and his merry band of NPS enforcers.....

284 Take pictures and names of all of these out of control Park Service "public" servants. Call them before congress, find out who issued the orders, fire them.
