Oh c'mon, he's better than that sissy George Will. Both men vacillate from incisive to wrong-headed commentary.
Even with that I'm hard pressed to name better pro commenters on the current scene. Still like Michael Barone despite his election debacle.

A relative of a former co-worker (hows that for a connection?) works for the John Locke Foundation in North Carolina, and told a few things about Krauthammer.
1) The last few years have really been great for his "business" and paid for appearances. The John Locke Foundation paid a pretty penny to have him speak to them.
2) Because of his handicap, he is actually not in very good health, and has a lot of unusual demands that go along with his appearances.
3) Nice work if you can get it. Seen him speak, and have limited interest in what he has to say. Same warmed over "advice" that may or may not work, but he still gets paid. Capitalism!
What is really needed is for the "Tea Party" to take over the Republican Party from the inside and re-organize it to make it more of a populist and vital organization, instead of Democrat-Lite. Champion freedom, liberty and the enumerated rights of the Constitution. Is this rocket science? Many commenters say the SAME THING everyday here for free, unless someone gets to read other stuff because of the Platinum Membership as AoS

Speaking at the National Review Institute 2013 Summit, Krauthammer said that a strategy of threatening to allow the nation to breach its debt ceiling and allowing automatic tax increases and budget cuts to take effect – better known as going over the “fiscal cliff” – would only hurt congressional Republicans in the eyes of voters.
“You can’t call the bluff, or Obama will do it,” Krauthammer said. “Suicide is not a good option.”
So we shan't do anything except concede more ground. Not the hill ect.
Got it.

Krauthammer did offer a little hope that Republicans could advance their agenda, if only incrementally. He said that the recent debt ceiling vote was a victory for the Republicans, because they forced the Democrats to produce a budget in the next few months—something they have not done in four years.

The lure of the party circuit seduces them all eventually. I've been to few as an outsider myself. I remember leaving one with my wife grousing in the car about wanting to slap one of Sen. Kenndy's aides. And she's not very political. She called him, "prissy", a term I had never heard cross her lips before.
But then, she's a Montana girl.

Had an interesting talk with a couple LEO's about Gunner Cuomo's little escapade. Upstate (where I live) is pretty much unanimously against it. None even want to think about confiscation OR enforcement. Some, I suspect will go along, but they look to be in the minority.
We tend to be quite conservative, with the left confined to places like Saratoga Springs. They haven't metastasized in sufficient numbers yet, though they tried and failed to put the brakes on a local gun show recently.
This is going to be interesting later on this year.

When one audience member asked him about the president leading America on the “slippery slope to socialism,” Krauthammer firmly said that socialism is too broad of a word to use for the president—social democrat is more accurate. He wanted to give the president the courtesy of acknowledging his true position—a courtesy, he noted, that the president does not give to his conservative rivals.

Be entertained by him all you want, but I think he is just talking to make money, and not really invested in changing things for the better. Obama getting elected was a good business outcome for him, as he is now more popular speaking to Right - of - Center groups (like the John Locke Foundation).

Cap'n Hate @ 150
You forgot John J. Gilligan (Kathleen Sibelius' dad) who famously closed the State parks as Governor to get even with the people for not voting for a tax increase. That got him un-elected real quick in 1974 and two more terms for Jim Rhodes.
Dick Celeste, crooked, silly and incompetent, who brought about the State-backed savings and load crisis earlier in Ohio than nationwide.
Strickland is just doofus, he just did nothing as Governor, and still he ALMOST go re-elected.
2014 will be interesting as to whether or not Kasich gets re-elected, by a little or a lot. I still think Kasich has thoughts about running for President, and if he is re-elected (strongly) in 2014, he might think about running in 2016.

Yes, Kasich should've slattered him in 2010; that was the first clue what a fucking shithole the state had become. Just talking to make money? And writing, too? The ease in which dismiss writers as Not Sufficiently Committed is pretty impressive, even by Internet standards.
What would a list of Legitimate Conservative Writers look like? What policy stances get one banished from the ranks of the Sufficiently Committed?
I watched this event live last night. It was a rare display: Conservatives having fun, on my TV. You can sway a lot of people to our side with that.

CK can go straight to hell for all I care, he is no conservative, he doesn't care about anything except hearing the sound of his own voice and money.
just like most (not all) of the big name "conservative" punditry, they don't give a damn about the Constitution.
despite what he calls himself, he is a progressive-enabler.
fuck him

Krauthammer is right about this. He only said they weren't radicals, not that they were conservatives. Put them under "liberals you could have an actual conversation with"--rarer and rarer these days.
Larry Summers was drummed out of Harvard for telling Cornel West to work for his paycheck instead of making rap CDs, and for questioning feminist dogma.
It's quaint to think that these were the kind of Democrats we did battle with in the 1990s.

His opinion of TFG is, I think a bit naive. TFG is a socialist and giving the chance to be a bad socialist no matter what the people in the beltway think.
Anyone who thinks we are getting through the next four years without bloodshed is fooling themselves.

I agree. Enough with Krauthammer. He'll screw you in the pinch. These Washington elites always do.

There you go. After the George Will bashing I was trying to think of one major writer that is actually more to the right then Will, couldn't think of one. From Townhall to the National Review. Never thought of Steyn, he actually is.

He recognizes the dangers Islam poses to a free society for one.

So Krauthammer is an yucky "insider", but associating the Right with stupid shit like this is going to get us back in power? Jesus Fucking Christ

Get mad all you want, but history has been kind to us as a nation for quite awhile. I am not of the opinion that such kindness is going to continue, history is not on our side. There are too many signs to the contrary.
I hope I am wrong, pray I am wrong, but I shall continue preparing as if I am correct.

Getting in power is for Establishment Tools. We will stop socialism with talk radio and protests on the mall, you'll see.
And harshly worded blog comments. Nothing strikes fear into liberals like blog comments.

If you really believe there will be bloodshed within the next four years, keep it to yourself. The rest of us are trying to win, and those kind of public statements make our job harder.

And you think this will end in the comment section of blogs? What do think will eventually happen? As of now our (conservatives) top political leaders are advancing an immigration policy that pushing this nation further to the left, their solutions to our fiscal problems amounts to slowing the rate of government growth, they're 100% behind turning our military into a liberal diversity program, their foreign policy mirrors that of Obama only they think we should manage it better, etc. etc. This is supposedly our (conservative) leadership. So I'll ask again, how do you think this eventually unfolds? It ain't going to end with some magical election that allows the conservative agenda to just happen.
Hell I'd be amazed if this doesn't end in bloodshed.

Short of a singular leader emerging (possibly Rand Paul or Marc Rubio) and dragging the GOP into some sense of actual conservatism we are not winning, we are delaying the inevitable. We have the entire dem party committed to national suicide and 90% of "our" party committed to enabling at the very least.
"Our" leaders are the passengers on the train crying out for the drivers to go over that cliff a little slower.
So, yeah, I think we are boned.
And just for the record I can work for the best and hope that I am wrong and still say hey if things do not change drastically then we are boned. Crying fire in a burning theatre is acceptable on occasion and even needed. Pointing out the facts is necessary.

90 percent? Which means a select few here are part of that super special brave 10% , right? Come on. Politicians want to be elected. And re-elected. Dems and Reps. When conservatism leads to them getting re-elected, we'll have more of it. No need to wait for the Magical Enchanged Perfect Candidate. Not that it doesn't help to have one who can speak in complete sentences.
I know the stakes are high. I know what the demographic trends are. I know the time to turn things around is not unlimited. But 'there will be bloodshed within four years' is not true, and makes the task more difficult.
