Number of Times Obama Met With HHS Secretary Sebilius Between the Passage and Rollout of Obamacare: One
— Ace

A confident hand at the wheel of the ship of state.

Peter Schweitzer writes at Politico's Magazine:

Amid the Obama administrationÂ’s endless rounds of finger-pointing and blame-shifting, scant if any attention has been paid to the amount of time and executive leadership the president personally devoted to implementing his signature legislative achievement.

“Nothing frustrates me more than when people aren’t doing their jobs,” Obama has said. So, with so much riding on the line, one would assume he held weekly, if not daily, one-on-one meetings with his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to isolate problems, challenge assumptions, apply executive pressure where needed and successfully manage a project of scale.

Nope.

That did not happen, at least not according to ObamaÂ’s own official White House calendar.

A new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis finds that from July 12, 2010, to Nov. 30, 2013, the presidentÂ’s public schedule records zero one-on-one meetings between Obama and Sebelius.

Obama did meet with Sebelius and Treasury Secretary Geithner once. That was likely about Obamacare.

There was one such meeting.

Perhaps Obama's too extraordinary to oversee large projects:

The president's closest advisers, like Valerie Jarrett, say the problem is Obama “knows exactly how smart he is” and has “been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do. He would never be satisfied with what ordinary people do.” Obama says the trait he deplores most in himself is that “there’s a laziness in me.”

Sorry it's taken so long to get up a post today. I just can't do what ordinary people do.

He appoints, then the appointees actually do the governance. He's only there as a figurehead, as a hatstand for the crown, and to con the masses with another flowery, empty speech.

115 SHANGHAI, China -- Hundreds of flights were delayed or cancelled on Friday in China's commercial hub of Shanghai as record levels of air pollution shrouded the city in smog, prompting authorities to issue the highest level of health warning.

The incident is especially embarrassing at a time when China seeks to build Shanghai into a global business hub on par with the likes of London, New York and Hong Kong by 2020.

On Friday afternoon, the Shanghai government issued its severest health warning as the city's pollution index ranged between 23 times and 31 times the levels recommended by international health officials.

In the first such advice since a new health warning system was launched in April, authorities urged residents to stay indoors and asked factories to either cut or halt production.

http://ace.mu.nu/archives/344811.php

Link to Article "Obamacare Shouldn't Have Been Managed Like a Campaign" By Megan McArdle

According to two former officials, CMS staff members struggled at “multiple meetings” during the spring of 2011 to persuade White House officials for permission to publish diagrams known as “concepts of operation,” which they believed were necessary to show states what a federal exchange would look like. The two officials said the White House was reluctant because the diagrams were complex, and they feared that the Republicans might reprise a tactic from the 1990s of then-Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.), who mockingly brandished intricate charts created by a task force led by first lady Hillary Clinton.

In the end, one of the former officials said, the White House quashed the diagrams, telling CMS, instead, to praise early work on those state exchanges that matched the hidden federal thinking.

My brother in law (and sometime lurking Moron here) retired after 20 years in the Navy and took a job in South Korea teaching helicopter platforms to our Army personnel there. He has been there a few months and my sister and niece were putting stuff in order here in the US so they could join him. They have Tri-Care for retired military and insurance through his new company. Last night he went to the base hospital because he was in pain, shaking and had a fever of 106. The base hospital TURNED HIM AWAY because they said he didn't have the right insurance card. He went to a local Korean hospital who admitted him and literally saved his life. Looks like he will be in the hospital at least a week. I thought hospitals were not allowed to turn anyone away. Leaving aside the morals and ethics of turning someone away, I thought it was illegal. Is that not what all the hoopla bout emergency rooms being used as doctors offices by illegals is about? The hospitals were not allowed by law to turn anyone away because of lack of insurance. So how is it that a retired vet, working in a forward area, in obvious distress, is turned away because he might have an insurance problem. My sister is about to strip hides and take trophies. Thoughts?

177 Moving toward a grand unified theory of Obama. Obama as Starfucker. Consider each action of this president as an increased opportunity to see and be seen with hollywood types, influential world figures, and have his pictures taken in interesting places, and things just fall into shape. The presidency is just a vehicle to his autograph collection. He takes his picture in Mandela's cell to get props with Kanye and Kim. He spends millions on a birthday party so he can schmooze with Paul McCartney and Val Kilmer.

Posted by: Komissar Vladimir at December 06, 2013 09:34 AM (sBegS)

178 Politico and many others are missing the big picture. Obama only meets with people that can advance his cause....unions, NAACP, MSNBC hosts, etc. The Obamacare website was never meant to work. Obamacare is designed to destroy the health care system, and from that standpoint it is working brilliantly. Therefore he didn't give a fuck what Sebelius did or didn't do. Hence no need for meetings.

229 More than half of 18-to-29-year-olds who were surveyed in the most recent United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll say it is likely the law will be repealed in 2014, even though the chances of that actually occurring are remote.

According to the poll, 18 percent of respondents in this age group said it was "very likely" Obamacare would be repealed by Congress next year, while 33 percent said it was "somewhat likely" the law would be done away with. The survey has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

That has real-world implications. The administration has relentlessly wooed these so-called young invincibles—young, healthy Americans—to sign up to purchase health insurance through online exchanges. Those consumers, who tend to use health care services less frequently, are needed to subsidize the cost of treating older, sicker ones. Without their participation in large numbers (the target for next year is 40 percent of all new enrollees), premium rates for consumers in the exchanges could rise.

Many years ago, I once read a definition of an educated; i.e., intelligent man that stuck with me, even though I've now since forgotten the author. He or she defined a truly educated, intelligent person as someone who can wait for 45 minutes for a train or a plane, without a newspaper or other diversion, and not be bored.

A lively intellect is resistant to boredom. Take me, for example. I'm no genius--far from it--but I don't get bored very often or easily. There are worlds of things to think about, ponder, and imagine. So no, I don't buy the 'Obama as genius' theory. Obama's just a restless, narcissistic fool who thinks himself a king. That isn't boredom he's feeling. That's the sense of unease he gets when the truth about himself starts coming within range of his consciousness.

If you want to see what care under ACA will be, if it is ever truly successful.  As a young enlisted guy, after naively asking for a second opinion, I was told to "shut up," because the guy was a lieutenant PA from Duke or some such.

Another friend was sent home with breathing difficulties and chest pains with 900mg motrin (same asshole PA, who insisted the friend was only malingering) only to later have been diagnosed with a congenital lung defect that resulted in a punctured lung and air seeping into his chest cavity.

This is what our best care in the world is destined to become.

306 Flounder, I once went to sick call because I was urinating blood and couldn't stand up straight.  I was one of the first people in the clinic and one of the last ones out.  The jackass they hired to work the front desk forgot to pull my chart.  He told me I would just have to wait.  By this time, I was in white knuckle pain.  The kind where you sweat and can only take short breaths.  I told him to get me in right now or I'm walking over the pay phone and calling 911. DLI had one of the worst clinics I've ever been to.  I should have just gone to an emergency room, but I was in training and didn't have a car.
