Obama Administration Declares "Mission Accomplished" On Healthcare.gov or Something

Apparently the goal consisted of a website that still doesn't fully work. Kudos!

Today is the Obama administrationÂ’s self-imposed deadline for Healthcare.gov to be Â“fixed.Â”
After initially promising a complete fix of the broken Web site by Â“the end of November,Â” the White House has incrementally lowered expectations, moved the goalposts and backpedaled on earlier promises as the depth and intractability of the siteÂ’s problems became apparent during NovemberÂ’s Â“tech surge.Â”

HealthCare.gov team claims victory: Â‘We have met the goalÂ’

The Obama administration claimed victory Sunday for making HealthCare.gov workable for the vast majority of usersÂ….
But even during their victory dance itself they were still moving the goalposts and backpedaling further:

The agency that oversees HealthCare.gov said Â“we believe we have met the goalÂ” of making the system navigable for most people, but cautioned that more problems may lie ahead.
Â“Dramatic progress has been made,Â” the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) stated in a report released Sunday morning. Â“[But] there is more work to be done to continue to improve and enhance the website.Â”

I guess we'll have to see if five million people, who've lost their insurance due to the operation of Obamacare and now are thrown to the mercy of the exchanges, end up agreeing that Obama has "met the goal."

Read the whole thing. Zombie notes that the "goal" has been "met" by abandoning many aspects of the original "goal." Minor little things, like actually enabling people to use the site to actually deliver a payment to the insurers.

The fundamental problems with Obamacare aren't technological. They are demographic, economic, logistic, regulatory and legal. Also, intractable.

Even if the exchange Web sites had run as smooth and fast as oiled silk rope through a Teflon pulley, what then? We're still stuck with the rude reality that costs are out of control in the American health care system, and Obamacare does precisely nothing for cost control. Anyway.. it shows me the plans available and the premium. But nowhere is there a link to see the details of the plan! Deductible? What does it cover? Etc.. Nothing. Just the name of the provider and the name of the plan and premium. That's it!

The official inflation rate is only 1% so even if that's close to being correct, then sales only rose ~1%.
