— Ace A book called The Obamas featured this delicious nugget:
Obama had always had a high estimation of his ability to cast and run his operation. When David Plouffe, his campaign manager, first interviewed for a job with him in 2006, the senator gave him a warning: "I think I could probably do every job on the campaign better than the people IÂ’ll hire to do it," he said. "ItÂ’s hard to give up control when thatÂ’s all IÂ’ve known." Obama said nearly the same thing to Patrick Gaspard, whom he hired to be the campaignÂ’s political director. "I think IÂ’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters," Obama told him. "I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And IÂ’ll tell you right now that IÂ’m gonna think IÂ’m a better political director than my political director."
A first-class temperament, they told us in 2007. Plus, a first-class intellect to go with it.
There's an old bit of wisdom -- old, but true -- that the more you know the more you realize you don't know. And conversely, only someone who knows a tiny little bit could possibly be under the illusion he knows it all.
Flash forward to today's story of Zeus throwing down thunderbolts on he whose hubris astonishes even the arrogant gods.
A struggling President Obama is calling for help from members of his first-term A-Team, who have left the White House for other jobs. With his poll numbers falling and his second-term floundering so far, Obama has sought help from the former aides who helped catapult him to the presidency.
...
One former aide described ObamaÂ’s trusted inner circle from the first term as "the originals," and speculated that if they were still at the White House they could have helped prevent some of ObamaÂ’s second-term blunders, such as the decision Monday to give a fiery speech criticizing Republicans just hours after 12 people were gunned down a few miles away at the Navy Yard.
You could do a better job of political directing than the political director but you didn't know that?
Obama is plainly surrounded by yes-men who are intimidated by him. He's like Elvis at in the declining years. Whatever The King says, that's just a great idea.
"I donÂ’t think he would have made that kind of mistake in the first term," one former administration official said on Tuesday. "Sometimes it feels like thereÂ’s a void over there. There are some new, extraordinary folks over there, but it definitely leaves something to be desired."
But Obama does have some of his Sage Council* remaining.
...To be sure, Obama has had some of the same faces around him during the second term, including Carney.
Oh well he's just the guy to give it to you straight.
But after a painstaking period of self-criticism and self-examination, Team Obama thinks they've figured out what's been going wrong with them lately.
Surprise! It's the same thing they always say is going wrong with them.
....Former Obama aides, however, maintain that there has been a messaging problem at the White House ever since Obama won reelection.
Fortunately, there is a cure: They can begin putting out a Message that Obama almost never puts out lately.
And they say that aides need to do a better job reasserting the narrative that Obama is, as one put it, the "aggressive champion of the middle class."
And the Middle Class. No, he never mentions And The Middle Class (ATMC). I mean, sure, he mentioned it for no reason at all in his Syria speech, but he practically never mentions And The Middle Class, apart from Always.
The problem isn't that he doesn't mention it. It's that he doesn't believe it and we all know it. And that's not a Messaging Problem. It's a Priority Problem, or, as we usually call it, just a straight-up Problem.
* Not a misspelling, Spelling Nerds. Usually I say "Sage counsel," as in wise advice.
But now I'm saying he has a Council of Sages. So the change in spelling is appropriate given my change in meaning.
So you just go right ahead and eat a bag of dicks, Spelling Nerds.

Anyway, on to the actual commentary.
Ace nails it, except I'd probably note one thing. In certain cases I'm not sure it's that Obama is stupid per se, but rather so incredibly naïve as to appear stupid.
Take Healthcare Reform. I think Obama actually thought the country would just roll over and accept his new top down model. Because...Helping or something.
Heck, he was partially right about bribing the states with Medicaid money, some turned (more didn't it seems.)

I wouldn't say "intimidated". I would say they willingly suck his dick. Intimidated implies they are in some ways fearful of him. I disagree and posit that all the people around him worship him and can't even begin to think of acting otherwise.

Last time I got a corneal cut (splinter in the eye from a wood yard) the treatment was "patch and don't open it for a week."
I was a kid so it was awesome (except for the not outside fun, sports or anything else.)
Has it changed much? Of not, patch, don't open it, save yourself the ER copay.
(This is not medical advice and should not be taken as such, I have no liability if you go blind, although generally I try to stay away from ERs)

Now that I think about it, I don't remember if there was any treatment to avoid infection.
Cornea gets almost (entirely?) nil bloodflow, making it a potential danger for that.
Excellent point, I reverse my previous statement.

1.) Rahm Emmanuel: everybody respected Emmanuel. He's the guy who helped the Democrats take back the House in 2006, he was Clinton's fixer in the '90s, he's a vulgar hard-charging partisan who is also completely willing to work with moderate Democrats and get them on board for legislative pushes. You want to know why Obamacare passed despite the Scott Brown election? Rahm Emmanuel is the reason why. Now obviously we, as conservatives, hate his guts for that, but on a purely operative level he was respected as a guy who managed to get things done, despite having a boss who is/was thoroughly intransigent.
2.) David Axelrod: again, I know we don't like him. But talk to anyone across the ideological spectrum in DC politics and you'll find universal respect for the guy's ability to juggle chainsaws, run a campaign, and manage crises. Policy? Not so much.
3.) Valerie Jarrett: everybody hates Valerie Jarrett. But everybody fears Jarrett as well. It's not an exaggeration or a myth in the slightest to play up her influence as an advisor and gatekeeper to Obama: she's Wormtongue and Rasputin combined.
4.) Pete Rouse: most people probably don't even know who he is but he was a quiet professional chief of staff who also had Obama's respect.

That reminds me of a story one of our MD/PhD profs constantly tells.
He will never tell us if he's the "intern" or the "Resident" in this case (maybe he has, but I swear it changes)
In any case, Intern has to put in a central line, never done it before. Resident is busy.
The patient is understandably nervous, stops said intern and says "Have you ever done this before?"
Intern freezes, does not want to lie, suddenly the resident appears and says "Ma'am you wouldn't BELIEVE how many times he's done this!" then more or less walks off.
Beware the docs in short coats

Obama has damaged international relations, increased the price of energy and health care, put millions out of work, created strife between the States and people, deepened political divides, institutionalized corruption and political patronage, delivered billions in public treasure to cronies...
There's a difference between someone who has accomplished nothing and someone who has accomplished nothing good.

Who, during his lifetime (which was from his birth was an Affirmative action world) would have had the nerve or reason to tell him otherwise?
From the beginning he was brainwashed and indoctrinated in both the Islamic to the Marxist/Leninist view of the world.
Then, once in actual American society, all he saw and heard reinforced his views.
In Academe he was praised and petted by any radical leftist with an agenda (and they ALL have agendas).
During his sojourn he realized that since he was universally praised and applauded with more and more awards and gifts for nothing more than being himself (or actually his skin) he rightfully came to the obvious conclusion that he was a superior being.
It wasn't up to him to judge himself and his worthiness as that had already been done by others.
What human ego wouldn't respond in like manner?
It's one of the major problems with all the focus on boosting self esteem in school; it leads to a lack of self examination and a inability to accept or receive criticism without an emotional or even violent reaction.
We see it daily in the news.

I have heard a saying that goes something like "A people hire A people because they are not afraid to be compared to them. B people hire C people because they are afraid to be compared to them."
I am not sure that is really what is going on, though. Remember how bad a liar OJ Simpson was at his trial? I am wondering if it is a Bell Curve thing. If you spend most of your time dealing with a population where the IQ distribution is shifted one standard deviation to the left, you might get an inflated opinion of your abilities. If your lies are readily accepted by people within this standard deviation shift, you might tend to overestimate your ability to persuade the population at large with disingenuous arguments.

310 That birth certificate that was presented made me laugh. He was born two years after I was, and when I went to get a copy of my birth certificate in order to get my initial passport, what I was given was a copy of a typed document that had been microfilmed. The one I saw that purportedly belonged to him was all nice and neat, as if it had been formatted by a word processor.
Folks have been computerizing lately. When I first needed a copy of my birth certificate, my mother gave me a similar microfilm printout. However, I misplaced it and had to order a new copy recently. I received a nice, neat, formatted by a word processor version on fancy paper.
The hospital in which I was born, Queens County Naval Hospital, no longer exists. The old microfilm copy listed me as having been born in "St. Albans, New York". The new printout says "Borough of Queens, New York City".

318 Well, Victor Davis Hanson said pretty clearly in a number of essays that Hubris begets Nemesis and that sooner or later, the latter would visit Obama.
Nemesis is just a fancy name for SMOD.

“A Nodder is something like a Yes-man, only lower in the social scale. A Yes-Man’s duty is to attend conferences and say “Yes.” A Nodder’s, as the name implies, is to nod. The chief executive throws out some statement of opinion and looks about him expectantly. This is the cue for the senior Yes-Man to say yes. He is followed, in order of precedence, by the second Yes-Man - or Vice-Yesser -, as he sometimes is called- and the junior Yes-Man. Only when all the Yes-Men have yessed, do the Nodders begin to function. They nod. “ - See more at: http://blog.lubans.org/index.php?itemid=192#sthash.Kat883lS.dpuf“A Nodder is something like a Yes-man, only lower in the social scale. Only declawed cat I ever had was a black longhaired female. I didn't do it; she came pre-declawed from her previous people. I always suspected that when she pawed the carpet or the furniture, she was secretly hoping the claws had grown back.
