— Ace Liberals are very good at casting their claims, dishonestly, as politically-neutral ones.
When people complain, for example, about the left's penchant for anti-semitic, anti-American, and pro-communist rhetoric, lefties will not defend the substance of such remarks, but make a case for absolute freedom to speak one's mind.
That's what they say. But then a dodgy filmmaker gets arrested for the crime of speaking his own mind and lefties cheer his incarceration.
Their claim was that their defense of (say) communist rhetoric was simply a neutral process defense -- they are championing a content-neutral process good (that of free expression untrammeled by blowback and boycott) which has nothing to do with their politics.
But that's a lie-- such defenses are only lodged in favor of speech they favor as a political matter.
And now, Barack Obama, as dishonest as leftist as has ever inhabited the White House, argues that all he wants is the neutral value of "compromise," and the neutral value of legislators freed of any obligation to support the values and preferences of their constituents.
Obama argues that Republicans ought to give in on their own political priorities for the sake of a vague "good of the nation." But this "good of the nation" turns out to be, fortuitously enough, closely aligned with his own leftist agenda.
No reporter ever asks him why, if it is a virtue for Republicans to forsake what they believe in, it would not also be a virtue for Barack Obama to forsake what he and his liberal allies believe in. You know, for the "good of the nation" and all.
His argument is insipid-- obviously, he doesn't do that because of an unstated assumption ("Because I'm right and they're wrong, so naturally my own advice doesn't apply to myself or my leftist Gramsciite radicals").
The moment this assumption is revealed, it puts lie to the idiotic claim he's arguing for a politically neutral value.
His argument doesn't survive first contact with the enemy -- but, fortunately for him, he has absolutely no enemies -- or even skeptics -- asking him questions.
The liberal press shares his assumptions so deeply they don't even realize they are assumptions in the first place. You cannot ever question that which you assume, without thinking, to be beyond question.

All kidding aside, excellent point. If compromise is good, it's good for both sides. If it's not good for both sides, then it's actually FYNQ as political theory.

There is a value in both sides compromising, but it only comes when both sides are positioned such that compromise is less costly than walking away.
Right now, the Republicans are afraid to walk away, because the Media will speak ill of them and the American people might not like them, so instead they ultimately cave to whatever Obama wants.

The Left in America reminds me of the saying "Men go mad in groups and regain their senses one by one". As long as a person is under the sway of the Left's assumptions regarding "collective action", it's pointless to engage that person in political discussion.

Yeah I think this is the real source of media bias - the general lack of critical thinking skills that our MSM Betters (ha!) have. They regurgitate what they learn in a leftist J-school classroom, they are conditioned to obey their leftist superiors in the newsroom, and they lack the inherent skills to question their milieu.

It's our "catch-22", so to speak. The theory goes that we must run a moderate in order to win, except moderates don't bring out the base, as we saw with Romney. Thus, we lose.
When a conservative is in the running, the MFM uses the extremem measures of search and destroy, which incapacitates the conservative message. Palin, Perry, Bachmann. And once again, conservatives lose.
Until we get an unbiased mainstream media, we'll be dealing with this from now on. The dems have, so far, the electorate sown up.
I refer back to a previous thread about what Rush and others have been saying for a long time: There'll be no shift to the right until the pain becomes unbearable.

"The GOP / Bush is to blame. Republicans are racist. GOP won't compromise. War on women."
He doesn't have to back up his statements; he just throws shit out. No one calls him on it but our side and that's often emotional.
See the pattern. Break it. (The twist is that he has a metric fuckton of power otherwise we could turn it off and read a book.)
Of the top of my head, we (elected idiot GOP morons/spokespersons) need to laugh, call him on his statements, and attach a single word/phrase to Obama (dems?) for the next four years. Four years, one message.
Like, "Hahaha! Geez, I heard Obama say that, too. What an unserious clown." Or "hateful partisan hack". (Yes, use a 'bad' word!) And have the balls to repeat that same word/phrase, over and over and over for four fucking years to let it sink into the cultural zeitgeist and reach the LIV.

Obama is (obviously, I'd say) the poster child for Nacissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), and one of the symptoms commonly presented is pathological lying. I see this a lot with TFG, and he doesn't seem to get called on it.
Partly, there's still something of the effectiveness of claiming that you're racist every time you call TFG out, but there's also the aspect that it's bad form to just call the other guy - especially the President - a liar. (That being said, it seems like he gets away with calling Republicans liars, so there's your double standard.)
That being said, one thing that bugs me is when I see Republicans say "Obama used to believe...", referencing something he had said a few years back. Even THEY don't apply the simple basic standard that if somebody says he believes one thing, and then turns around and does something inconsistent with that belief, then it's appropriate to say he LIED.
Obama said he would cut the deficit in half, and not only never lifted a finger to try to do that, but instead has done everything in his power to spend, spend, spend well beyond anything that might be made up even with tax cuts. He said one thing, he did another. He LIED. SAY IT. AND SAY IT AGAIN.
Obama said he was a moderate who would "reach across the aisle". He had no history of doing that, and once in office he never did it. Hell, he rarely even reached out to his OWN side. McCain was asked recently if the President has seemed combative to work with. The reply was a non-combative admission that he, a high-ranking senator, had not had enough dealings with the President to say anything, one way or another. So "post-partisan" was not only a LIE, but such an incredible lie that it was also a JOKE. But Republicans feel they must "show respect" to the President by not saying so.
Partly, I suppose they don't want to "throw stones."
Still, the more I hear of the Inaugural Address, the more it sounds like it was disturbingly divorced from reality, and he's not being called out for it. Hell, Hillary pulls that "What difference does it make" crap, and gets APPLAUDED for it? WTF!?! I wish I could just say that any time I get in trouble. It's another JOKE.
Anyway, we just have to bring out the fact that the President is literally a pathological liar.

Here's what the useless fucktards in the Beltway GOP ought to have done.
Called a joint press conference in a big auditorium. For fully open public negotiations. Two tables. Two whiteboards.
Obama, Pelosi and Reid, with various minor Democratic players, at one table with one whiteboard. Boehner and McConnell at the other table with the other whiteboard and with their own backbenchers.
Opening statement from the GOP: "Here is what we are willing to compromise on." [Writes terms on whiteboard.] "Your move. What are you willing to compromise on in return? In writing, please, for all to see."
Drag Obama and Pelosi and Reid out into the glaring bright sunshine (always the best disinfectant). Make it impossible for them to pettifog and renege on deals. MAKE THEM PUT IT IN FUCKING WRITING FOR ALL TO SEE.
Instead, what did the useless fucktards of the Beltway GOP do? After being rolled with contemptuous ease by Obama during private negotiations previously, they meekly agreed to go in to private negotiations again! And they got rolled, again.
We know, courtesy of the WSJ, what happened in that private room.
Duke Boehner of Lower Useless Fucktardia: "I put $800B in taxes on the table. What do I get for that?"
King Putt: "Nothing. I get that for free."
In those words. In those exact, contemptuous, dismissive words. "I get that for free." And he DID.
In public, it would be impossible for Obama to pull stunts like that. In private, it's trivially easy for him to get away with it. And yet the useless fucktards of the Beltway GOP agree over and over to Obama's private back room negotiating demands. Doubling down on failure. THEIR failure.
Nothing will improve until Boehner and McConnell are gone. And at this point, their spineless caucuses show no appetite for removing either. Tells you all you need to know when the best hope of restoring conservative leadership to the GOP Senate is for Ashley freaking Judd to unseat McConnell in 2014.

@205
I'm surprised to report that that it may be true, but the pendulum swings both ways. I've seen the same phenomonon in every workplace I've ever been in. Every time somebody screws up, or something goes wrong, the "genius" managers would come up with some new rule or policy, I suppose to show their bosses that "something is being done" when all you really need is to discipline somebody, or say, "don't do that", or just recognize that "shit happens sometimes". The worst cases are where the problem was caused by a lack of leadership. The bad apples are tolerated and become a sort of cancer.
Ultimately, you end up with so many rules that nobody can know even a fraction of them, and they get unweildy to even manage. Then somebody starts an effort to simplify.
What ultimately happens is either (1) they do simplify, and the cycle starts anew, (2) they don't, and people simply ignore the rules (unless you want to go after somebody), and a sort of vigilante chaos ensues, or (3) the organization collapses because it cannot function effectively anymore. Regardless of which way it goes, change is inevitable - the status quo is not sustainable. The question is whether you want to go the easy way, or the hard way. We took a pass on (1), in not electing Romney, so stayed tuned for "the hard way".
