Obamacare cratered the highly educated demographic.
— Purple Avenger

Earlier, Ace pointed out that the millennials are falling by the wayside now.

I've been digging into the specifics of the recent Gallup. Obama is losing his Centurions -- the stalwarts of progressiveism, and indoctrinators of the young.

Obama CRATERED 10 points in the past month among one specific demographic that has supported him all along -- people with graduate degrees. (this link is a spreadsheet)

Now he's underwater with them too at 47%.

He's been briefly underwater with this demographic before a couple of times, but only one week blips during particularly bad news cycles. This time its different. There was a sustained 5 week decline leading to this 47% figure. This is the first sustained five week decline he's had with this demographic. Ever. Its ummm...unprecedented. Perhaps even...unexpected.

59⇒57⇒55⇒54⇒49⇒47%

The last foray into this territory for Obama with this demographic was during the hugely unpopular Libya bombing campaign. If he doesn't bounce on the next Gallup with the influencers and indoctrinators, that could be very bad for him. People talk on campuses, if they start talking thought crime type things, the 2014 elections could turn ugly for democrats.

The general long term trend has been a slow erosion in this demographic as well . He started over 70% with them peaking at 73% a couple of weeks after taking office (original "stimulus" signing time-frame).

Its looking like the usually reliable college professor and high end professionals demographic finally cracked under the weight of Obamacare realities. Discussion in a faculty lounges and corporate break rooms must be pretty "spirited" these days.

With that interesting result in hand, consider this piece at The New Republic pimping Elizabeth Warren as the one who can knock off Ms. Inevitable in the 2016 primaries.

...three years from the next presidential election, and Hillary Clinton is, once again, the inevitable Democratic nominee...

...as central as this debate is to the identity of the party, Democrats wonÂ’t openly litigate it until theyÂ’re forced to ponder life after Obama...

... In addition to being strongly identified with the partyÂ’s populist wing, any candidate who challenged Clinton would need several key assets. The candidate would almost certainly have to be a woman, given DemocratsÂ’ desire to make history again. She would have to amass huge piles of money with relatively little effort. Above all, she would have to awaken in Democratic voters an almost evangelical passion. As it happens, there is precisely such a person. Her name is Elizabeth Warren...

There's a problem here though. Warren has pimped Obamacare saying she "knows it works".
If Obamacare continues on its path to becoming about as popular as ebola by 2016, and continues being so toxic it alienates even the progressive leaning highly educated class, where can Warren stand that doesn't make her vulnerable to being painted as an Obama 3rd term the way McStain was painted as a GWB 3rd term?

Hillary OTOH can claim, with some believability even, that "she learned" from the early 90's Hillarycare debacle. There's distance there. Decades of distance. People can credibly say they've shifted positions over a span of decades. Grown more mature, thoughtful, considered, etc. But here's Warren, of a comparable age to Hillary, who's only viable play is to make the same "metamorphosis", but over scant years rather than decades...and sell that to people recently burned bad by Obamacare.

I dunno, it just seems a bridge too far to me. Maybe Hillary blows it and gives it to Warren and Warren somehow overcomes the Obamacare taint, she is after all "of the body" and projects more faux sincerity than Obama ever did, but I remain skeptical at this point. Warren's resume is about as thin as Obama's was regarding actual executive experience.

52 Brought from prior thread-I hate when that happens Things have been mighty quiet up here in Romneycare land in the local rags until this week when the Boston Herald revealed heap big problems on the new Obamacare website-63 MILLION and it doesn't work, they (Duval) is calling in Oracle to assist. 63 Million for one of the smallest states in the country-1/10 of the federal cost, a tiny fraction of the population which, because we have had Romney care for years and the highest insurance costs anywhere, should have been a cakewalk to set up, being pre-socialized and all. Add to that the fact that no one up here seems to understand-I'm news junkie and this is the first I have heard of it-that the whole system was switched to Ocare recently. I thought I hadn't heard much about Ocare locally because (knock wood) most of the folks I know here are on employer plans, but I have the feeling that will be changing real soon. *Crickets* from the Globe, or at least their Boston.com website. Granny W and the rest of the MA clowncar delegation have also been nowhere lately.

I did some checking on the IRS site...about how they want us to 'prove' that we have purchased Health Insurance.

Our W2's will show whether we have employer-provided insurance.

People who buy their own insurance, will have to provide 'verification' from their insurance company.

There is also a third category....'Exemptions or Waivers'.

So, I guess Sebelius is going to provide people with a copy of that?

That is why Barky won't fire Sebelius.

97 Purp, could you please comment on how well Elizabeth Warren did when getting elected? Did the whole "Fauxcahontas" thing hurt her at all, or were her "of the body" credentials so good that the progressives didn't even care? I once lost a job specifically because there was another person applying who was a minority, and I'm almost as white as Elizabeth Warren. I'm pretty sure I would have done a better job than the person who was hired, but it is hard to tell because after he got the job he never showed up for a single day of work. This was in college, and the job offered no actual pay but did offer some perks... he never collected any of the perks either. All he did was apply, take the job away from me, and vanish. I'm still bitter about it, but I never really needed the job... and at least the guy really was a minority. I can only imagine the rage if someone needed a job and lost it because of a lie about minority status. If you believe in giving preferential treatment to minorities, then you ought to be really upset when someone lies in such a way as to get that preferential treatment without deserving it. If it's no big deal, then let's tear down the system. If it is a big deal, but it's okay when Elizabeth Warren does it... rage.

100 Saw my doctor today. I consider him a friend, been with him since I was 22. He's the one who told me I had cancer. He's a decent, compassionate man, but he's not a fool. He told me that as of the first of the year he will no longer accept Medicare OR private insurance for routine office visits. Strictly cash and carry. He said that for years he'd lost money on every Medicare patient he saw because of the reimbursement rate, and based on the ACA, he'd make a pittance. This is ridiculous.

This is interesting, especially in light of my wildcard prediction that the Obama machine are going to want to run someone other than Clinton or Biden to represent their intraparty interests, and that the most likely guy for that is Deval Patrick.

Patrick's got enough of a resume to plausibly run for President, and he's distant from the Beltway to where current D.C. problems don't accrue to him. He's a personal friend of Obama's. And he is black, which for a lot of the Obama identity-politics coalition is a big effing deal. They'd LOVE a second black president in a row. Stephanie Miller was having on-air orgasms recently imagining the thought of a long string of just such.

Not so fast.  Cash and carry cardiac surgery could be just as negotiable as anything else, especially  if enough doctors go that route.

Think along these terms.  Let's say Ocare will cost you $600 a month and the likelyhood of getting timely surgery will become iffy at best.  Negotiate a deal with a surgeon  that does cash and carry, get a loan to cover the complete treatment protocol and perhaps pay $400 a month to repay the loan.  This could work.

162 The conventional wisdom says that Warren's attack-the-banks strategy wins the middle class. That might be true, IF conditions permit her to stick to it and don't introduce any nasty issues in the everything-else she knows nothing about, and especially IF the GOP nominates a fat-cat banker or VC. There are issues the GOP should be out in front on, and one of 'em is making sure that NO bank is too big to fail. Reintroducing a sort of Glass-Steagall wouldn't be a bad start to take the wind out of the Dems' sails.

The O'care mess won't be easy to clean up. Even if it is repealed , the insurance companies can't hit restart on all  the plans they have cancelled. The bets they can do is offer new plans- but they can't calculate the policies or  premiums until they know what any new legislation looks like.

I figure the Dems' real fear is that they are hearing from the insurance companies how the employer based plans will change when/ if  the employer mandate kicks in. That will affect a lot more than 5 million people.

I think a vascular surgeon could take an indefinite peace of absence and be welcomed back if they were ready to return to work." Docs can come up with all the cash and carry schemes they want. However, since we all have to have insurance that has mandatory FREE preventative visits, who is going to go ahead and pay the doc out of pocket for a free benefit that they have paid through the nose in premiums.... Also, don't forget that surgeons typically work out of hospitals...and the hospitals are being bludgeoned with ACA rules and regs, which in turn they bludgeon the surgeons into submission with. I just received a letter from my personal MD telling me that the little three doc practice she belongs to will be no more after Dec.31...all three docs are going individually into huge multi physician practices about an hour from me. So much for the ten minute drive to sit in a waiting room for five minutes, it was a great practice which is why I went there.

She's like a college professor you enjoy listening to, but when you graduate and head out into the real world, the good doc's world view just doesn't reflect reality. Hilary would be far more polarizing as a candidate, and Warren would probably be very persuasive in a debate. She'd probably run better than Hilary. That being said, she is a cookie-cutter liberal, and she doesn't have a clue when it comes to understanding how business works. She is a big government statist, and unfortunately, she could probably persuade people to buy into drinking more of the libtard flavored Koolaid.

263 @248 I tried to listen to Warren at a debate once, but everything sounded like, "WEEEEEE! I am an ignorant moonbat. Can I has your money now pleeez!?! Cluck, Cluck, BAKKKKAGGGHHH". Personally, I give up voting Republican. The fruitiest moonbat is getting my support so we can get this show on the road and get to the burning times.

That's because it is not any kind of metaphor regarding immigration, illegal or otherwise.   Gareth Edwards has said point blank that was not his intention with the movie though he knows people will bring that to it.

eman, the point of the monsters is that they are alien and that they are mutating.   The reason I think the movie is a bit of a failure is because it's supposed to be about what are the costs of killing the monsters.   Well, they're monsters who are not supposed to be on our planet.   Of course you kill them, that's not a difficult choice to make.   The question is can you kill them faster than they can mutate.

340 AlextheChick, if you keep adding all those blank lines...  are you tempting the Barrel Deity?

Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at November 12, 2013 05:55 PM (jUb9+)

341 I think you all are missing the point about Obama's "progressive" supporters losing faith in him. This does not mean they'll turn against Warren -- quite the reverse. These people are constantly looking for The One, and if Obama turns out to be a false messiah, that means that Warren will be their new savior. As his star falls, hers will rise. The only good part will be watching Hillary's facial expression if they ever have a public meeting.

People in Leftist precincts who tell pollsters they're pissed off or dissatisfied with Obama means jackshit. No, that's wrong. It means they'll support Elizabeth Warren with even more intensity than they did Obama.

And this decline in the polls only emboldens Obama into more lawlessness. When people are under stress they turn to what comforts them. The exercise of lawless power comforts Obama. Look out -- it's going to get worse.

Right now I'm pondering buying a ticket for Lone Survivor to support it but not going because I'll be a sobbing mess.   IIRC, Luttrell was there during filming and told the director if he fucked it up, he was going to kill him.

I called him this morning he said he didnÂ’t have time to talk because they were putting him in wheelchair and he was having PT. He called tonight and I just left office and had no reception in elevator. His oxygen level is below 80 and heÂ’s complaining of hand pain and other things that he usually keeps to himself. And for the record, I totally buy this Elizabeth Warren hype. Not as an actual President, mind you (good God no) but as the nominee, sure why not? Lack of experience never hurt Obama or Carter (or McGovern or Kerry) at least until the convention was over or the actual job of governing began. She may have said some stupid things in support of Obamacare, but her fingerprints aren't on the actual bill, which gives her a heck of a lot more plausible deniability than Biden, or Clinton (whose health care plan in 1992 and 2008 looked suspiciously like Obamacare, what with its mandates and payouts to the insurance industry), or the blue state governors (like O'Malley) who have to account for the failure of their own state's health care exchange.

Plus, Obamacare is getting impossible to defend on its own, which will mean the Dems will either need to join the GOP on the repeal side (not bloody likely) or go all in on single payer. The first candidate who goes full retard on the healthcare issue and endorses single payer outright will be in a huge position tactically by 2016, and Warren looks to be the best positioned candidate to take that step.

They won't learn. They will just keep thinking that if they just tweek this and twerk that it will finally work. The number of true believers out there that think the problem with communism is that it truly hasn't been done properly are legion. They overlook the bloodshed associated with every single revolutionary take over of a populus that has occurred in the past century, and if one hundred million deaths isn't enough to convince these idiots of the error of their faulty ideals, then a few million people losing their health insurance isn't going to convince them of the absolute stupidity of obamacare either. These people see what they want to see, and when the facts don't support their beliefs they go blank. They simply cannot conceive that their demonstrably stupid ideas do not work. We have abdicated control of our schools a long time ago, and the lefties have had about 30 odd years to indoctrinate whole generations. Why on earth would anyone think that these koolaid drinkers will get a clue now?

414 Hillary was the absolute no-doubt-about-it LOCK to win the nomination in 2008 three years before that election, too.

Warren could carry the uberleftist states like Massachusetts, Vermont, and Rhode Island against her without difficulty, and would have a good chance at California, Oregon, and Connecticut.  It's tough to imagine her taking any others, though.  She really is a terrible candidate, lousy debater, uninspiring speaker, and spent much of her campaign actually running from journalists trying to ask her questions.

And Hillary won't make the mistake that gave the nomination to Obama in '08, either: secure in the conviction she would win, her team didn't bother to set up operations in solidly "red" states since they would be a waste of resources in the general election.  But Obama followed the 1972 plan of McGovern (who designed the Democratic process that began that cycle), setting up offices in even the red caucus states and fighting for every delegate.  It made the difference.

Still, the odds of picking the nominee three years out are very long, going by history.  Not many picked Ike and Adlai in '49, or Nixon and JFK in '57, or Goldwater in '61, or Nixon and Humphrey in '65, or McGovern in '69, or Carter or Ford in '73, or Dukakis in '85, or Clinton in '89, or W in '97, or Obama in '05, for instance.

415 Warren's resume is about as thin as Obama's was regarding actual executive experience. ___________________________ You mean maybe voters should think twice before electing as president a half term senator, who used to be a law school teacher, whose main claim to fame is a fictional life story, and who obtained Ivy League credentials by way of Affirmative Action credits and family connections? Gee, what could possibly go wrong?

416 68 ST TOS, the Landru episode

How prophetic.  That was 1966 or '67.  Now we in New Orleans have Landrieus all over the place (Mary, her brother Mitch, their father Moon).

417 Slightly less than half of them have a favorable opinion, and you're waving your dick over how unprecedentedly disastrous this is for him? STOP SNORTING THE COKE.

418 If Hillary does run, I'd love to see a gop take on that 3AM phone call ad. This time, intercut scenes from Benghazi with the ringing phone; in the end it goes straight to voice mail with the tag line "when history calls, leave a message".
