— Purple Avenger This is a very long report, and you should spend some time to read it all. There's a LOT more than just this juicy snip.
...“There is no access to the daily business in the Oval Office, who the president meets with, who he gets advice from,” said ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton, who has been covering presidents since Gerald Ford. She said many of Obama’s important meetings with major figures from outside the administration on issues like health care, immigration, or the economy are not even listed on Obama’s public schedule. This makes it more difficult for the news media to inform citizens about how the president makes decisions and who is influencing them.“In the past,” Compton told me, “we would often be called into the Roosevelt Room at the beginning of meetings to hear the president’s opening remarks and see who’s in the meeting, and then we could talk to some of them outside on the driveway afterward. This president has wiped all that coverage off the map. He’s the least transparent of the seven presidents I’ve covered in terms of how he does his daily business.”...

But here's the thing. That's going to happen anyway, no matter when you pull the plug. It can either be now, when the state still has the resources available to suppress the violence, or later, when the rest of the government is already falling apart too. It will take a lot to suppress open rioting. But it would take a lot more to suppress the rioting if it's your unpaid soldiers that are doing the rioting. That's the real choice we should be thinking about.
Huh.

It's not like the press corps hasn't noticed this and discussed it among themselves! There have been hints of it, if you have to read as much as I do, but it hasn't been laid out for the public. If it were Bush, we'd have heard caterwauling from the housetops within a month of the inauguration!

Of course, the instant a Republican president is elected (if ever), you be be assured those same people will spring to alert and will describe even the smallest incidents of official opacity as a Grave Threat To Democracy As We Know It.

I suspect the internals will be as typically skewed as they usually are, but I also figure that the absolutely horrible message discipline by the GOP is helping to erode their public standing in the polls.

The next Republican president can and just might say with a straight face:
"Well MSM, you never once held Obama to any standard of accountability and in fact went out of your way for years to protect him at every turn and skew your coverage to his favor and against Republicans on every single issue time after time after infuriating time.
The country suffered from it and I wont make the mistake of trusting you or sharing one piece of important info with you. Therefore I (the next GOP Potus) plan to be equally contemptuous of you.
Hope you enjoyed the Age of Obama. Don't bother calling anyone on my staff for a story. To me you are to be treated as mushrooms: fed shit and kept in the dark. Now hand in your Blue Room passes and gtfo of the White House."

the micro-fractures started showing quite a while ago. Curiously, McClatchy who "speaks truth to power" was one of the first to show some minor cracks. That wandering off script occasionally with McClatchy has persisted for quite a while now.

They are. NBC always uses a 43% Democrat sample with a 30-33% Republican sample. Even in 2012 they couldn't reach as high as this sample is saying. More opinion massaging.
I said it in the last thread too that they also measured government workers here too. of the 800 people polled, 20% of them were government workers. 9% of the 800 were Federal workers which only represent 1.2% of the actual population. Who exactly may have strong opinions about the shutdown? Oh YEAH, government workers, especially federal.
Then you look at another number apparently 31% of them are affected by the shutdown. In 1995/1996 shutdowns both times only 18% were affected AND there were more government workers at the time.

I agree with 61 and 69 (heh) completely. Obama's got time for the photo ops and the Final 4 brackets and showing off his ignorance every chance he gets because he knows it'll be spun into gold. He leaves the day to day stuff to Valerie Jarrett 'cause who's got time for the nitty gritty when you're the Lightbringer? We gots transformin' to do up in here, beyotch!
I do take comfort in knowing that in another year or so, Obama might finally snap and screw the military hard enough to where they snap and walk off the job entirely. Then we're talking coup, and everything gets messy for a while, and (fingers crossed) the military good ol boys from south of the Mason Dixon decide that we need fewer Democrats in DC than there are now. And opt to remove them. Permanently.
A man can dream, can't he?

You know what?
Screw these media whores.
They wanted the "cool" guy to win, they went out of their way not once, but TWICE to get the guy elected, and now he isn't playing nice with them, and they're complaining about it?
We tried to warn them, but they knew better than we did - we are the knuckle-dragging, cousin-marrying, toothless hicks who are lower than pond scum in their eyes.
I hate what is happening, but perhaps they will learn a lesson from this.
Then again, I kind of doubt it.

Nope. The ones that Hackworth called the "perfumed princes" run the military now, pretty much without exception.
Want to know what the inflection point was?
When Valerie Jarrett was at an official D.C. reception, and wanted her drink refilled, and languidly waved her hand at a uniformed officer with a chest full of ribbons, and told him what she wanted.
And he meekly complied.
What should have happened? He should have said, "M'am, I am an officer in the armed forces of the United States. With all due respect, I am not a waiter and I do not propose to become one," and everyone from the CJCS on down should have backed him up monolithically on that point.
That this did not happen should tell you something very significant. The officer corps are being treated with dismissive contempt _and they're accepting it_.

In other words, why does Obama bother? If anything reflected badly on him, it would go unreported anyway. I guess it's just for the practice.
