Obama's Neverending Campaign and His Complete Abdication of Actual Governance Functions
— Ace

Red Alert Media spells the tactic out.

Does this sound familiar?

1) There is an important problem that requires Congress and the President to act. (entitlement reform, viable budget, sequestration, fiscal cliff, debt limit hike, etc.)

2) House Republicans propose and pass a bill with what they consider a good solution to the problem.

3) President Obama and Senate Democrats realize it is easier to attack the Republican plan than propose their own, so they refuse to propose a real bill.

4) President Obama delivers several campaign-like speeches filled with strawmen portraying Republicans as unreasonable, uncaring and somehow responsible for a lack of solution.

5) No permanent solution is achieved.

It should. This cycle has been repeated on every major issue that has come up since Republicans took over the House in 2011.

Even a liberal like Ron Fourier, while, of course, mostly blaming Republicans, actually notices that Obama is president and the buck should, at some point, stop with him.

If itÂ’s all about politics, bully for Obama. A majority of voters will likely side with the president over Republicans in a budget dispute because of his popularity and the GOPÂ’s pathetic approval ratings.

If it’s about governing, the story changes: In any enterprise, the chief executive is ultimately accountable for success and failure. Sure, blame Congress — castigate all 535 lawmakers, or the roughly half you hate. But there is only one president.

But did he beat Tiger? That's the main thing.

[Update - Andy] Rather than pushing the boss's post down with this like I almost did, I'll just graft it on.

114 It's always easier for liberals politically. Actual governance? That's a lot tougher. I don't know if I'll explain myself on this very well. It would be something Ace could flesh out a lot better, I am sure. But I'll try my best... Conservatives are always on the defensive on issues, and it's not all because we don't have a compliant media, though that's not nothing either. The biggest problem is liberals natural appeal to the masses, those people that like to think of themselves as people who care, but really would like to just watch 30 Rock at night rather than actively participate in their community. Also, people that barely tune in. Liberals love the anecdote. Every convention is a airing of grievances of people that have no chance. Sally Sue lost her insurance. Joe's job got shipped to China. I spoke with Mary and she's getting paid half of what Mark is. Carlos just wants to stay in the country he's grown to love. You want to help these people, don't you? Well, we'll take care of it....don't worry about those details. And if my opponents give you these convoluted reasons why it might be a bad idea, just trust us...it's rooted in hate. The bar they have to cross in terms of argument is incredibly low. A few anecdotes, act like you care a little bit, and make us explain why what sounds like a caring idea is expensive, carries social costs, and isn't well thought out. Then call us uncaring bigots. We actually have to make the much more complicated argument, but that requires people that are plugged in and engaged enough to listen to it. There aren't enough of those people anymore. Hell, we can't even throw the poor results in their face anymore. People are incredibly cheap dates now. They don't even have to really do anything anymore. The big bill they passed isn't even popular. Doesn't matter. Just throw some pablum for people to digest, and that carries the day for them.

I think it's a combination of modern technology making life at least tolerable for nearly the entire population, combined with the inability of the masses to understand the long-term difference between Obama-level growth rates of 2% and the 3% the economy could be growing at under a more Reaganesque set of policies.

Put that alleviation of most of life's true hardships together with that ignorance of the compounding effects of stagnation and you get the era of Obama. Notice that "socialism" and "collectivism" really never got any play before the industrial revolution, precisely because the levels of laziness those ideologies enable would have gotten an individual dead right quick under those less-advanced conditions.

In other words some Republican is gonna have to openly and publicly castigate him as the race baiting, class mongering, epic failure that he is and do so citing some pertinent and obvious facts. smart Queen!

238 Repetition 1,836,281 of what should be a simple and obvious thing:

The GOP need to stop thinking like lawyers and accountants, and need to start thinking like agitprop revolutionaries. Think like Andrew Breitbart.

In this case, force them to live down their own promises. A classic AB move.

Boehner should call a press conference. On the sidewalk outside the White House. (All such press conferences should be here. Get in the enemy's territory.) And say:

"The President said in his State of the Union address that he had a long list of policy proposals and that they all together would 'not add a single dime' to the deficit. Those are the President's specific words, 'not a single dime'."

"In that speech, the President proposed, by my rough count, 29 *new* federal programs. Plus expansions of existing federal programs."

"So what I'm here today to do is very simple. I am here to ask the President to show me a budget that adds 29 new programs, expands existing programs, and doesn't increase the deficit by, again in his words, 'one single dime'."

"And I will be coming back here to wait outside the White House fence every day until the President comes out here and hands me the budget he says he has that does the things he says it will."

Put the onus on them. Do it publicly and loudly.

When I travel-- checklist.

Make sure room is near ice machine/ elevator

Make sure room is on upper floors, so I can waste time waiting for elevators. Being late to meetings is no big deal.

Make sure hot water is not working in shower, saves time in the early a.m. - no need for coffee.

Make sure hotel "neighbors" have crying infants and/or nymphomania or violent arguements.

Make sure to call for a wake-up call and set the alarm.

Neither will happen.

etc. etc. Isn't travel stimulating ?

Any time I traveled alone with our son from Chicago to Kiawah Island, SC, I always stayed at the Marriott Courtyard in Lexington, KY.  As a woman traveling alone with a little boy, having the security of inside only doors was important.

The warm, fresh-baked cookies at the check in desk were a plus!

Back in 90's, a guy killed his GF in a budget motel in eastbay San Francisco area.

Put her body between mattress and floor, inside the wooden box platform.

Guy checked out and drove 100 miles away. He ultimately walked into a PD and confessed.

Cops had to go to the room and wake up the new "guests", consisting of a poor guy and his girlfriend in bed. I guess that they had to advise the couple that there might be a third "guest" in the room with them. Below them.

There was. Even after housekeeping had done their thing before their arrival.

398 "A majority of voters will likely side with the president over Republicans in a budget dispute because of his popularity and the GOPÂ’s pathetic approval ratings."

Look a little deeper and you're likely to discover it's the Democrat Party propaganda arm - the media - doing their part to sway the low-information types via misdirection, omission, covering Obie's ass outright, and painting his opposition in as bad a light as possible. That's how a pathetic piece of shit like Obie can manage to be considered to be "popular". Where the GOP's approval ratings are concerned, the RINOs in its ranks bear a lot more responsibility for that.

400   Like I said to my husband before the SOFTU, "No point in watching because in two words, We're Fucked!" . I live in Almost Mexico, Arizona, my husband works for the DOD and is considering a spot in Mali, instead of going on furlough one day a week. My son is a Marine, like his father before him and his father before him. This man-child that plays at being our president cares not a wit about anyone but himself and his golf game.

It's like he thought once he was elected, it was all perks and prestige without any work. Leading from behind is just abdicating responsibility. I can't wait until he is gone and we get a grown up in the office again. I also hope that this little powerplay costs him on immigration and the rest of his pathetic legacy.
