Obama's "Success Stories" Are More Story Than Success
— DrewM

I have a friend who used to run his own company but wanted a change of pace and went to work for a non-profit. The culture shock was pretty severe. The most shocking thing was listening to his boss, the executive director of the organization, tell the board of directors that he, "should be judged on the number of projects he starts, not the ones he completes".

That's kind of how Obama wants you to judge the roll-out of ObamaCare.

The White House (not rightwing nutjobs) provided background information on the people standing behind Obama yesterday during his infomercial.

Two have enrolled for coverage in a health insurance exchange plan, according to the background released by the White House. Janice Baker, who introduced Obama, has enrolled in Delaware through the federal HealthCare.gov site, getting coverage despite a pre-existing condition. David Hall, a self-employed resident of Washington, got coverage through the District of Columbia, which is running its own exchange.

Others who stood behind Obama included two people who just started the signup process by registering an account or starting an application. Five more are exploring their choices or are “looking forward” to signing up. One of those people is Nathaniel Hojnacki, who has a job without benefits. He plans to enroll “after he explores his coverage options on the D.C. exchange,” according to the White House.

So one of the two people who have actually signed up has a pre-existing condition meaning she's likely to be a net drain on the system. The rest are working on signing up so that they can consider whether or not the want to or can buy a policy through the system.

These are the success stories.

Imagine a business model where just signing up to browse the products was a multi-day project. Want a book from Amazon? Sure. You'll just need to spend 3 or 4 days filling out forms and then you can browse the sections!

Meanwhile, Joan Walsh has a sad that liberal writers are selling out the cause by noticing that ObamaCare has been a total failure to this point.

Join me in welcoming Ezra Klein to The Vast Rightwing Conspiracy.

Oh, has anyone seen any ads from the RNC taking on the ObamaCare rollout? You know, maybe comparing Obama's promises to reality (if you like your policy you can keep it) or the number of people who lost their policy compared to the number who have gotten new ones?

One other thing...remember how the original story for the crash of healthcare.gov was, "the site is just so gosh darn popular!"? It turns out the magical level of popularity that caused it to crash was....2,000 visitors.

1 For Obama and his ilk, just showing up is his accomplishment.

It's part of the "affirmative action" philosophy.

22 Sadly, a real expose of ChoomCare would require an eye-busting mess of tiny type, long lists of numbers and plenty of footnoted citations.

In other words, some actual reading comprehension would be necessary, which puts it out of reach of too many voters.

A quick, simple summary of the charges that would be brought against President Historic First© at his impeachment trial would be easier for most people to grasp, though.

The denial is still ungoing with some, but others are acknowledging the reality: ObamaCare is the Titanic of government social programs.  Now, to a certain segment of society, social programs are like cathedrals, the visible symbols of their aspirations and their faith.  That the greatest social program enacted in the USA is a miserable failure is going to cut them to the quick.

Since the failure is obvious, but it is an article of faith, the search for scapegoats will soon be conducted, and it will be conducted with a ruthlessness that only an insulted religion can do.  For this I am grateful that I am nowhere at all conducted with HHS or medicine or insurance, for their will be burnings at the stake.*

89 I think it's pretty obvious by now that the Republican elite want Obamacare as much as the Dims. My theory is the GOP has two sets of people. The old and calcified politicians who have no idea what's going on. They don't even pay attention anymore and skate along with an alcohol buzz and a vague recollection of their youth. The other group are the young people just out of college who have no idea of history and no real grounding in conservatism. Both groups tread well-worn paths trying their very best not to stick out too much because as the minority they don't want to be the next picked off. They have no real love of conservatism because they don't even know what that is.

That's the same as health insurance has always been in this country. As for the part about keeping your plan, the president was "technically" wrong, but only because the Exchange plans on offer are so much cheaper than other plans out there, that some issuers and brokers are dropping existing plans because people can go to the Marketplace Exchanges and get Better coverage, while saving a fortune. ...........
It is slightly early for that.. but they need to be working on these ads.

The people whose plans were cancelled because Obamacare declared them illegal still have over 2 months to get replacement coverage.

The time to hit them with these ads is before Christmas.. maybe even before Thanksgiving, so families can spread the word to their libtard relatives what a shit sandwich this whole thing is.  I fully intend to direct some snide comments to my liberal son-in-law during TG dinner...

We ought to have some good numbers by then, and you can pretty much guarantee this shit won't be fixed by then.  And you can't fix the prices!

But generally, you are correct.. the RNC needs to be bashing the Dems with all of Obama's quotes.

109 "Oh, has anyone seen any ads from the RNC taking on the ObamaCare rollout?"

(crickets)

There actually was a time when the Republicans had competent media strategy.

I remember one TV ad from the GOP in 1979. That was when yet another one of those goddamned 1970s gas crises had hit, with long lines at every pump which was open, and doleful "Sorry No Gas" hand-lettered signs at half the stations.

The ad was a big old car driving down a desert highway, driven by a dead ringer for then-Speaker of the House Tip O'Neil. Huge mop of white hair, equally huge red Irish alcoholic nose, the whole drill.

A clean-cut young guy riding shotgun looks over at the dashboard and says, "Whoa, Congressman, we're nearly out of gas!"

Close shot of gas gauge needle hovering just above "E".

The O'Neill character chortles and scoffs and keeps driving.

The guy in the passenger seat warns more and more pointedly about the dire lack of fuel. He says they have to figure out a plan to deal with it. The O'Neill character continues to wave a hand dismissively. Needle continues to plummet steadily.

Of course, the car ends up grinding to a dead stalled halt on the shoulder of the road in a big cloud of dust. Closing voiceover is the O'Neill guy now spluttering indignantly, "Why, why, but, but, we're OUT OF GAS!!!!!!!!"

Simple. Comprehensible even to the lowest information voter. Beautifully synchronized to popular anger over a hot-button issue that hits nearly everyone, gas prices. Democrats HATED this ad and called it "simplistic crap" that didn't take into account the 3-D chess complexities of Carter energy policy.

Simplistic crap? Guess which party won a massive landslide victory the very next year in 1980? The GOP obviously didn't dislodge O'Neill, which would have required divine intervention. But Republicans took the White House, and took the Senate, and knocked off 35 House Democrats' seats.

Compare this to 2012, when Mitt Romney ran a grand total of zero (0) ads over gas prices, at a time when pain at the pump was intense. Facepalm.

Re: rate shock - That's really only going to happen to a large segment of the population once, and in a few years they'll forget about it. People who have3 never had insurance and who will only get Obamacare approved policies in the future won't really know enough to complain about higher prices because it's all they or anyone they know has ever known.

As I read either here or elsewhere, wait until reporters who work for all sort's of small to medium markets are forced to try to enroll, and then they  see the results.

That is going to change things, as the reality hits home.

And make no mistake about it. Most media markets are doing poorly, and I can't see that the companies are going to cover their employees.

My version of the Obama Admin's blurb on each person:

Janice Baker (Introducer), New ACA Registrant

Though Janice has been turned down for insurance before, she DOES currently have medical insurance. The new plan is $150 less than what she is currently paying - but - no one else is paying less, and we don't know what kind of plan she selected. And she did not have to go through healthcare.gov either. Success!

Ginger Gutting, CVS Pharmacy Supervisor

Ginger is not trying to get insurance. What is she here for? She's just a prop... but a successful one!

Walt Rowen, Small Business Owner

A 7% increase for his employees is to be celebrated!?  All other increases are not to be talked about! Success!

David Hall, New ACA Registrant

It is important to know David was discharged from the Air Force under DADT, which is very unfortunate. He's made something of himself the past few years and signed up for insurance on the DC exchange - NOT healthcare.gov. Since he's a consultant, he probably hasn't had insurance, and probably didn't bother before because it wasn't mandatory.  No word on rates or if he got a great deal. The mere act of creating an account but not selecting a plan is a success!

Jessica Ugalde, ACA Beneficiary

Jessica is young, but had/has an illness.  She's getting the benefit of having insurance through her mom's work. No word on how expensive that is, how much her mom is paying, or how much longer that will last.

Mike Brey, Small Business Owner

Mike is using the exchange to allow his workers to get their health coverage there. The healthcare.gov website says that has to be done on a paper application. Paper application = Progress? = Success!

Malik Hassan, Prospective ACA Beneficiary

Malik works part-time, so he waited and got an account setup on the website. But he still doesn't have access to the plans. As with most of these "success stories", just being patient & waiting = Success!

Ezra Salop, Small Business Owner & ACA Beneficiary

Ezra, like Jessica, is still on his parent's plan. But that's it. Nothing else to add. Kids: stay on your parents' plan as long as you can. Poor Ezra only has about 1 more year left, and then he'll have to get insurance another way. Success!

Karmel Allison, Prospective ACA Beneficiary

Karmel has an unfortunate illness, but has had insurance all along, and plans to continue to. She used the California site, but not healthcare.gove, and has not actually signed up for anything new. Success!

Zohre Abolfazli, New ACA Registrant

Zohre was able to register last night. Last night! LAST NIGHT! That put her on the short list of success stories to stand with the President. She has not actually selected or purchased a new plan, but still has her old insurance. Spend your weekend trying to register = meet the Prez = Success!

Jasmine Jennings, ACA Beneficiary

Jasmine has an unfortunate illness. She's on her parents plan, and doesn't have to worry about paying for insurance herself. Her mom & dad will take care of that part, because they love her. And that is good news for a part-time worker still in grad school!

LaJuanna Russell, Small Business Owner

LaJuanna is looking forward to finding out what is available... translation: She's just like you - and hasn't seen any options yet because the website still doesn't work. Success!

Nathaniel Hojnacki, Prospective ACA Beneficiary

Nathaniel went to school and got a Master's degree, and now has a part-time job with no benefits. He has not actually seen any options on the exchange, and has not yet signed up either. Why is he a "success story"?  That's pretty miserable.

I'll let you figure out why they're going to run the ads in those particular states.

112th Congress, 2011–2013. Text as of Jul 16, 2012 (Placed on Calendar in the Senate).

163 The most shocking thing was listening to his boss, the executive director of the organization, tell the board of directors that he, "should be judged on the number of projects he starts, not the ones he completes". That's the problem with these people: it isn't what they've done that counts, it's what they say they've done, and what they mean to do in the future. Which is what journOlists do...

There's no point in comparing Leftists' promises to reality. They mean well, and that's all that matters. Everyone else hates precious White babies, and wants to harm them, because they're evil. To all the brightest and best commentators to this story...

Aren't we something!  Great comments, Pithy observations and spot on diagnosis...In the meantime, Hillary was right...

What does it matter?

(hint, the Dems have this country in their palm)

Let's face it, the RNC doesn't give a pile of rat poo whether Benghazi, the IRS criminal actions, the NSA fiasco, the promotion of abortion or any one of several dozen Obama administration scandals are adequately and fairly resolved.  It's all about fund raiser flyers.  If they did their job, 75% of this would not happen.

Either that or they really ARE a bunch of lilly-livered pansies!

Remember the first scare tactic employed to stop O-care dead in its tracks - we don't know what's in the bill?

What if the RNC took the bill and assigned every elected official and their staff at the fed, state and local level to take a section and really look at what it was going to mean to Joe and Jane Q Public?

Then each night, each section would be presented to the public.

Boom, we now KNOW what it will mean AND how it is doomed.

Do what the Dems do - Take control of the conversation and GO ON THE OFFENSE.

Instead we got a bunch of crybaby right wing commentary while the Dems walked away with the support of the duped public.

Mitt was right, 47% of the public is GONE, and they ain't coming back soon unless the RNC gets off its fat hairy white rear end.

195 We are losing to a political party and a media apparatus (BIRM) that has just spent 65 years teaching 5 generations of Americans to sit on their fat fucking assessing waiting for government largesse to make their lives whole, and that same party and media then expected all those fat asses to get up off the couch and spend their super valuable time and superior brain power trying to sign up for more benefits through the most complicated and cocked up website of all time. Think about the fact that we are losing to these people, and they WILL destroy this country. Time to armor up and move to Montana. FUCK. IT.
